Chapter 30
Ayana's P. O. V
"In the evening again?" all the four members of the swimming team say in unison when I inform them of vice principal's decision.
For some odd reason, the vice principal wants us to practice twice today, because tomorrow are the tryouts. I kindoff agreed with him, so I didn't argue much.
"Yes guys, in the evening again. It's not my decision, so I can't really help it," I say with a shrug and all of them sigh in defeat. Ethan is staring at the floor, clearly pissed. Tina, the captain speaks up.
"Okay guys, it's fine. Since practice makes perfect and we have to perform well tomorrow, let's meet in the evening," she says and everyone nods before walking towards the entrance.
Ethan looks at me and I give him a sad expression."Practice makes perfect. There's always room for improvement," I say and he rolls his eyes before nodding and walking.
My phone blares and I check it to see Vihaan is calling me.
"Yes?" I say and he speaks up in a bored tone.
"Do you remember or I'll have to give you a shock?" he asks and I roll my eyes.
"I remember. We have to go to college. Just pick me up, I'm sending Ethan with Carlos uncle in the car," I say and he's silent for a small moment before he speaks up.
"Car for such a small distance Ayana?" he asks tauntingly and yesterday's incident plays in my head.
"I have my reasons and you can pay attention on what's important. Just pick me up," I say and hang up before walking out, Ethan already long gone.

"The men we called for decoration are creating issues."
"The final list of the three day schedule needs to be made."
"The final formal invitations for the chief guests needs to be sent."
"The food orders need to be given."
Almost seven such statements were launched at me like bullets the minute I stepped into the auditorium where my entire team is currently working.
Amna, Alia, Samaira are standing, trying to calm everyone down. The moment everyone saw me, they couldn't control their urge to talk, all together.
Vihaan beside me chuckled and hopped on stage before settling on the table chair placed there for us.
Yeah, vice principal wants his business to be done very seriously.
I stand there, looking around, waiting for everyone to stop talking in the air or amongst themselves.

"Shut up everyone!" I yell on top of my lungs. Everyone goes silent, their eyes wide and their expression similar to a deer caught in the headlights. I look at everyone before walking to the stage and hopping on.
I turn around and face my team, that's looking at me, waiting for the next instruction.
"I get it that there's alot of work left and we're lagging behind. So, right now, more than hard work, we need to do smart work," I say and some exchange looks while the others nod in approval.
I take a deep breath before continuing."So I'm going to start off everything by first making the schedule of all the events that are going to take place. Then we, in that order, make sure that all the preparations for that particular event has been done. As far as the menu, the formal invitations, the list of participants for each event from each college is in question, Krisanne has been handling that from home. So we don't need to worry about that. Now, can I have the list of events so that I can schedule it?" I ask and Amna immediately starts climbing up the stage.
"Vihaan, call Krisanne and ask her what is the situation with her work," I tell Vihaan and he nods before getting to work.
"Here," Amna catches my attention and I nod at her before taking the files.
"Let's get to work then," I say and starts going through the list of events.
It's going to be a long day.

"Oh my god, I'm tired," I sigh and sit down finally after one and a half hour.
"Me too," Vihaan says from beside me and I raise an eyebrow at him.
"You haven't moved," I say and he snorts.
"That doesn't mean I wasn't working. I was putting everything on paper," he says and I shake my head at him and let it go.
"I think we're done for the day, let's go home," I say and Vihaan brightens up like a flower on spring.
"Yeah, now you're talking," he says and both of us leave the auditorium.

Oh my god how could I forget?
"Ethan, wake up," I yell once I reach the threshold of the boy's room.
He squirms in his place but he doesn't wake up. He's sleeping on his stomach and his face is facing the other side.
I walk around the bed to the other side to see him sleeping peacefully. It's five in the evening so it's not sunny but it's still pretty bright and I have no idea how he's facing the window and sleeping. His brows are not furrowed and he's not smiling but he's not frowning as well. His hair is a mess on his head, making him look really cute right now.
I wish I had a camera.
Wait, what!?
"Ethan!" I yell and snap out of my previous thoughts.
He jerks and turns to sit up straight, looking around frantically. Some of his front hair falls on his face and he runs his hand in his hair and pushes it back, when he finally catches me standing there.
He sighs and runs a hand down his face before finally talking."Give me five minutes, wait outside, I'm coming."
I nod before walking out the room.

"Ayana, will you please take care of her?" Tina asks me, referring to her niece in her hand.
My eyes go wide and I'm sure the color on my face is draining.
Why? Well children have that effect on me. Let's just say their not really fond of me.
"But why did you bring her here?" I snap and she looks at the others before responding.
"Ayana, I couldn't help it. This practice is a short notice one and I had already taken her responsibility up. Now I couldn't leave her alone," she explains and gives me hopeful eyes. I bite on my lip before crossing my arms on my chest and nodding reluctantly.
"Okay."
She smiles at me and places her niece down, right next to me. She looks up at me with wide eyes, her thumb in her mouth. She could stand and walk, so she was probably 2 to 3 yrs old.
I gulp before smiling."Hey."
She doesn't respond and keeps staring at me.
Here it goes. I knew it. All babies hate me.
"What's her name?" I ask Tina.
"Namrita," she says and I nod.
"Okay, so will you guys be fine?" she asks me and I look at her, then at the girl, then back and forth once again before nodding reluctantly.
She goes towards the changing room before throwing one last smile my way. The other two follow her and I turn to see Ethan staring at me with a half smile.
I narrow my eyes at him and he walks ahead before bending down and whispering."Babies don't bite."
He walks away and I glare at him.
He's finding my misery funny.

Let's just say it's not going well at all.
She points at the ball again and I groan. She's made me her personal dog. She keeps on chucking the ball and I have to go keep on getting it.
When I don't move, her face falls and then she shuts her eyes and her small mouth starts to remove soft sniffles. Suddenly, within the matter of seconds, she starts to cry.
"Okay okay, I'm going. Don't cry," I say and get up to got get the ball.
The moment I do that, she stops crying and a sly smile forms on her face. Normally people do alot of hardwork, just to see that smile on a baby's face and when they get it, they go all mushy.
But for me, all I felt like doing was roll my eyes.
Just then, from behind me, Ethan comes ahead, all changed but his hair still wet from the shower.
"Hey," he bends on his knees and smiles at the little girl who giggles in response. She gives him the ball and he rolls it at a distance. She crawls towards it and sits next to it before grabbing it and throwing it at Ethan.
I just stand there with my jaw touching the floor.
Do I have an extra pair of ears to deserve this treatment?
Shortly Tina comes and takes Namrita back from Ethan.
He gives her a smile and Tina blushes in return.
Yaya, a handsome boy, who's good with a baby, smiling at you is enough reason to blush isn't it?
He turns around to face me and walks towards me with a smirk. I just look away with a frown. Then he's about to say something but I don't really hear it because I dash out of there, towards my car.
He's made enough fun of me.

I was right about Amber and Vihaan. Definitely something cooking there.
They wouldn't just be on the terrace for five hours. I wonder what they were doing.
The question of the day is the best thing of the day. I really liked what Amber wants to do, I'll add to to-do my list.
About me, I said the one that I want to do at any cost. More than all the others.
Now is the big surprise.
What does Krisanne want to do?
