Majnun woke the next morning and saw her husband sleeping sprawled across the bed. She touched his shoulder and called his name softly but he didn't stir. Majnun got up from the bed. She looked coolly down at her husband. No matter, she thought. She may have conceived already; she only had to wait to know.

Majnun went from the room into the hall. Victoria was in the kitchen drinking coffee as her daughter had her breakfast.

"Good Morning, Victoria," Majnun said.

"Good Morning, Majnun."

"Sleep well?"

"All right? You?" Victoria asked.

"Not so well." She smiled slightly. Majnun went to the cook then and asked that she have her breakfast and lunch in her room today. Majnun left the kitchen with a careful sway in her walk, turning her head slightly to see if Victoria watched.
