-4: Different; Indominus
From the very beginning, Indominus had known that there was something different about her. It wasn't just from the fear and disdain she knew from almost every living creature around her. It was something inside. She could feel that she wasn't like the others- but why, was unknown.
All she wanted was to get out of her cage. Having grown a little older, she found herself yearning to leave more and more. The outside, it was calling to her. Singing to her in a golden voice that the cage was not her place. But she still wasn't strong enough to escape. And she most certainly couldn't leave without convincing sister first.
Sister had just grown more comfortable within their cage, comforted by the care provided by the humans and the food they gave every day. Indominus knew sister was weak and needed help, but she still wanted them both to go together. It had been her desire for as long as she could remember. The cage was just the same thing every single day, whenever something new happened it was because of what lay outside- a new species of bird would visit, or giant metal beings would fly far above their heads, some with massive wings, others with strange rotating sticks. She believed, wholeheartedly, that if she escaped, she would discover where she truly belonged. She would not remain as the monster creatures feared, but rather, change into a part of their very community. Only killing when absolutely necessary, like for food- she had seen the food chain in action when the birds around her captured flitting flies, or when the ants swarmed a dying beetle and took him back to their home. Sister hated it, the idea of killing to survive- she displayed empathetic behaviour as she occasionally interfered and tried to save the creature being attacked. But Indominus was willing to kill for them both if it meant they could go and live outside their cage.
Indominus, after living in the cage for quite a while, had started to recognise some of the humans that came by and peered at them. She occasionally watched them through their glass compartment which was probably protecting them from her. One was a guard, a large one who watched these strange screens which displayed her entire cage to him. The other was a red-headed woman who seemed neater than the others, as angular and symmetrical as a human could possibly get. They always watched her and her sister, judgemental eyes piercing at their scaled hides.
It didn't matter. They didn't matter. Just she and her sister were enough. They were different from everything that existed in the world- and that fact gave her pride.
Sister approached Indominus as she was watching the humans. Sister cooed, and nuzzled the white giant- who shut her eyes and nuzzled back in response.
A/N: Apologies for the short chapter, I have been working on my next Raptor of War draft!
