Kotone Is a woman of two worlds, quite literally. During the day, she serves in the royal harem to the lord emperor; a pampered woman of many, though they live with very strict rules...to always look their best, to be elegant and graceful, and to never leave their home in the palace for all of the days they shall live. They are tools to the emperor; his lifeline to lineage and continuing his family name. Some take it with honor, and others with great sorrow. Alas, the day in the life of a royal consort is that of an uneventful one, with equally mixed emotions regarding the subject. The young Emperor has been stricken with a bout of depression, and rarely calls for any company by any of his concubines. It may come as a relief to some who have been forced into their role; to others, devastating who wish to bare a child and/or serve a chance to be empress. The women of the harem are said to be the most beautiful that Japan have to offer. But their lives are much more difficult than meets the eye.

And by night, not only does Kotone live a separate life, but also of a different sort all together...intermixed in a squad of Ninja men, the sort to form a resistance against the Mongol invasion that threatens the dynasty. The government insists that the public allow their royal army to handle the situation, but with the number of Mongolians out-numbering the guards 3 to 1 in village attacks, the group called the "Keikai Youjin" have taken on the roles of vigilantes around the imperial city, taking jobs from villagers to retrieve stolen goods or even bring home sons recruited by the scoundrels. They are wanted by both the law of the land, and the invaders, but the townsfolk hold them to high regard. They work from the shadows and the cover of night of men of stealth. Yes, indeed they are a group of only men. So how does Kotone come in? Well, she masquerades as such of course, doing her work as a nearly silent and scrawny young 'male' referred to only as "Ren", to conceal her true identity.

So, why does she do it? Live in the palace as a play toy and figure head, and risk her life to be caught as a woman of the Keikai Youjin? For two reasons, both of which very important. Years ago before being inducted into the royal harem, Kotone lived with her father, a gifted and mild mannered doctor. He'd gone on a journey in search for the cure of an aggressive illness, sent by the late emperor's father who was ailed with the disease, along with his wife and second son. Since that time...he hasn't returned...resulting in the death of all three monarchs, leaving the current emperor without family. Kotone once served as bedside nurse to the trio, but after their deaths had been forced into the role of a consort....however, it seemed to be a blessing. Without the work, shortly to be dismissed, and also without the income of her father, Kotone would have had little money to turn to. Life in the concubine society is trying, but it's a safe place to lay her head.

Though, she still has high hopes of finding her father, who's mysteriously disappeared. She has had suspicions for a time now that he's been seized by the mongols, resulting in her desire to search for him. However, it stands to be simply an unlady-like en devour, resulting in her alter ego as "Ren". If anyone were to learn of her identity, well, it may cost her her life. But if she dies trying to find her father who may hold the key to curing the horrible disease, so be it...

x Personality x:

Kotone as a woman is very easily intimidated - soft and kind with hardly any backbone. Many other women whom she lives with push her around and belittle her mercilessly. She's one who's apt to give into her emotions, appearing sullen or deep in thought at random moments of the day. Bashful, and eager to please. A lover of animals and children. She has a hard time standing up for herself in an appropriate manner, especially considering violence is by no means accepted as a consort, and also especially toward other women of the harem. So typically it ends with her keeping a lot of hurt feelings inside. But she is nurturing, a defender of all things that she loves, and a quick friend to make. The promise of sincerity can fool her easily. She's romanticized the world into that of a united space of humans with pure intentions, and that good always triumphs over evil. Some may considering it rather naive. Shy, timid, and easily excited.

As a 'man', 'Ren' is very silent. Of course in hopes that his feminine voice won't give him away. Some simply assume that he's a particularly small stature man, or even a /boy/ yet to fully hit puberty. Truly, he's just as timid as the true woman behind the mask, but the intense wrappings and cover ups conceal much emotion, leaving Ren to seem stoic and stealthy. As a fighter and Ninja, Ren is most adept in close proximity battle. Long range is a bit of a challenge that it getting better with the help of his peers. Seen as a youngling, a newbee, and an easy target for banter, Ren's male counterparts tease him, though unlike the viciousness of some women of the harem, they mean well and consider him a friend, albeit mysterious. It's a group that Kotone can truly feel a part of. Alas, she can never let them know if her true identity. On a side note, many young ladies of the village ironically fawn over Ren for his mystery. Imagine that.

x Scenario 1 x:

Your oc is the newest addition to the Keikai Youjin. They have honed their skills as a Ninja warrior, and proved themselves to be allowed entrance. They've turned to the group of anti-heroes as a means for of revenge against the Mongol scum who have senselessly slaughtered their family, and pillaged their homes. Any chance they can get to assassinate one of the dastardly intruders is a glorious moment, but they do work as a freelance vigilante to villagers who request their help. Instantly, they must know that their life would change forever inside of the Keikai Youjin, especially when assigned Ren as a partner on an upcoming mission/patrol. Instantly your oc can tell why everyone refers to him as the mysterious one of the group. And something seems a little off about it, but they've brushed it aside, assuming just as everyone else that it isn't worth prying into....Your ocs ultimate goal is to kill the leader of the Mongolians, and bring his head back to his people as a trophy. Then and only then will they kiss the imperial city goodbye. (Please, feel free to beef up your ocs back story however you see fit - this is just the basic layout of course, and i'm giving you creative freedom to make their backstory and ultimate goal robust. The story will evolve as I progress the story, and we can also discuss that as well. If you want to have your character work in or near the palace by day to interact with Kotone before finding out her true identity, be my guest! But if you prefer they only interact in Ninja form for a while that's okay too!

x Scenario 2 x:

Your oc is the forlorn young emperor of the kingdom, too depressed to do nearly anything at all...including much eating, leaving his chambers, or visiting his concubines, one of which will be chosen as his wife. They all remain untouched by his hands. The loss of his mother, father, and brother so abruptly has left him feelings isolated and alone in the world, and he contemplates deeply ending it all, though remembering he's got an empire to tend to hold him back, or maybe something more - such as predestined fate. For the meantime, their uncle (brother to their father, you can play them) has taken control of the country. Your ocs indifference at the moment as a leader probably contributes to the invasion of the mongols so violently, which they also feel guilt ridden about, though as a young ruler they know very little about how it should be done and can only rely on the guidance that their father had given them before passing....in a last ditch effort to right the wrongs of allowing their country to be invaded, they secretly enlist the help of the Keikai Youjin. Unrealizing that Ren is actually a lady of his harem, Kotone...

(If you want, you can have this oc in this scenario join their forces, or at least want to learn combat if you want. ALSO, I thought it might be interesting for the oc to slightly resent Kotone considering her father couldn't save his family, which might add a bit to the conflict!)

x MAJOR SUPPORTING CHARACTERS x:

(as a disclaimer, I would really appreciate, for an rp this intricate to work, for you to take control of some supporting characters that will make the story a little more flowing and exciting :) I don't mind if you make them up, as long as we discuss their significance. But here are a few, and a few different factors, that will be important to the story and I'll mostly control unless you want to.)

Yasuta - leader of the Keikai Youjin . Quite serious, great leader.

Asahi - Ren's previous partner, before being promoted. A joker, loud and boisterous.

Gichi - genius ninja. smart, tactician. Coy, witty, flirtatious.

Mai - Kotone's biggest enemy within the harem. Mean spirited, restless, desires empress title.

Batuhan - leader of the Mongolian invasion. Merciless, cold blooded, killer.

(Like i said, feel free to add some in, even a female to play as Kotone's friend. May even have a side story romance with one of the other Keikai d: who knows, let's just have some fun.)
