Howland was a man on top of the world...landing himself a highly sought after Hollywood job as a talent scout, he knows a thing or two about music, who has the 'it' factor and who really has any sort of talent at all. He's the guy you get to who will either make you...or break you. Coming from such a humble background, it's quite an accomplishment for the man who now makes a pretty steady income, living in the over priced city of Los Angeles. Indeed, he was making his way up the food chain in life and couldn't have it any better. However, about 5 years ago, things started to rapidly change for Howland...as a child, he struggled with dry eyes, relying on medication to aid it when it could but it never seemed to fix the problem for long. He tried glasses, contacts, and a diet filled with vitamin c....still, nothing seemed to make his ailment go away. But he lived with it as a bane. However, at the age of 20, things took a turn for the worse, and his eyesight in general, began deteriorating. He ignored it for a long time....tried to pretend it wasn't a problem at all. But still, it got worse and worse, until he'd finally consulted a doctor. It turned out that he did in fact have deteriorating vision due to a rare genetic disorder, and well, eventually, he went blind all together...It's a new en devour for Howland to be without sight, but thankfully, he is able to keep his job and income, with a lot more challenges than ever before.

x Personality x:

Grumpy.

Howl is a rather hardened person. He's tough to get to know, and sometimes even tougher to like. He's a true definition of a loner, besides his dog, Archer, who accompanies him most of the time. Though this might strike someone as odd, it's completely reasonable considering...Howl is blind. Yes, completely blind, behind those icy blue eyes is absolutely nothing staring back at you...so don't go thinking he doesn't like you because of your looks. No no, please assume it's something far deeper than that, like your personality, or your smell, or something! At least, that's what he'd have you believe. He has a sort of bitterness that casts away all types of personalities, and he while he does have a heightened sense of smell, it's usually not that, either. The true issue lies in the fact that he hates to be coddled or vulnerable, like he needs your help at all which he doesn't, and he'll remind you of that by doing absolutely everything by himself - other than small guidance from Archer.

Once again, he's a hard person to get to know...but anyone who can penetrate that fortress will find that he's really got a kind heart, helping in small ways that he hopes will go unnoticed because it would be completely against his persona, and a pretty good sense of humor, based on things that he doesn't have to see to understand. How to get on his nerves? Send him a letter! There's no way that he could see it, and the irony of that is a constant reminder of why he hates this god-forsaken world and a lot of the people in it. He faces scrutiny mostly everywhere he goes for his rather rare condition, and it's hard for him to believe that there are people out there who actually mean any good.

A lot of his bitterness stems from the fact that he wasn't born with this condition...moreso it was bestowed upon him by the universe by accident, for reasons unknown. Why him, he's wondered time and time over and over again? What had he done so wrong as a boy to deserve such a cruel fate? And instead of rolling with the punches, he merely survives, with a chip on his shoulder that's larger than his desire to be polite. No, he'd much rather be a sulking mess, though it isn't great for his love life.

x Scenario 1 x:

Your oc is a hopeful actress/singer/performer, who's moved to LA for a shot at stardom...however, it's a little tougher than they'd first bargained for. Being turned down a time or two already and having to pay rent on a dingy one room apartment downtown, your oc has turned to odd jobs for money, which happens to include a job as a caregiver for a blind man; just to help him around the neighborhood, drive him, and help with chores around his home. Of course, they must have been expecting an elderly man whose vision had just decided to give out. But instead, it's a fairly handsome young and wealthy man with a bright future. But not only that...he's a talent scout that you seem to remember quite clearly, because...he shot you down pretty hard. But, the pay is good, so of course your character is conflicted on whether the job is worth it, or not. Maybe they'll receive a little more than they bargained for...
