Chapter 27 (Part 1)
"I mean it, I feel fine, father. Mother, tell him I'm okay." Anayah smiled.
She was in bed for several days, after she was discharged from the hospital. Her parents obviously had a panic attack in fear of pneumonia.
The doctor did say she should keep warm for a couple of months, other wise something terrible would happen to her.
"I haven't been to school in a week and half. Mother's been taking good care of me. As well as Analeigh, and Ronné and Brad, who use my supposed illness as an excuse to skip class." She giggled, "But I'm great. Thanks for all the presents and stuff I forgot to thank you for. It will surely be a birthday I will never forget."
"Yah. Unfortunately." Ashley sighed, and Danilo continued,
"Wish you could forget it all. But since you're fine now, we can still throw you a party or whatever you want, mija."
"Nope. No need. Birthday was about a week ago and I'm not in the mood for parties. Just pray for me. I need all your blessings. Although... I Do need more gifts." She smiled toothily.
***
Anayah was on campus after two weeks but she felt as if it was after a year. The environment felt different. She decided to go for a swim. To skip class for the last time and relax a bit; get used to the environment, I guess.
She took a shower, put on her swimsuit and got in.
Five minutes had passed and Anayah was floating on the water, lost in thoughts.
She hadn't seen Renar nor Dylan in two weeks. Ronné told her that they did stop by, several times, but her father didn't allow them to see her. Bummer.
She closed her eyes, giggling at the thought of her father throwing them out.
So lost in thoughts, she didn't notice someone creep up behind her in the water.
I mean, she noticed but didn't notice. Don't know how that happens, but it does.
Floating for a second more, or two, her head lightly bumped into something in the water and she immediately opened her eyes and positioned herself well.
She was faced with a handsome, shirtless brunette, who was looking down at her.
"Careful. Don't want you swallowing too much water." He pulled her closer to him by the waist.
Anayah just stared at him, noticing how close they were to each other.
"I'm Christian. Single." He smiled lopsidedly, holding on to her.
"You're Christian Single? Nice name." She smiled.
"No, I mean, I'm Christian and I'm single." He laughed.
Anayah forced a smile, "I don't know what I'm supposed to do with that information, but nice meeting you, Christian. I'm Christian too, but my name's Anayah."
"Funny and Beautiful. I bet you're intelligent too." He laughed.
"You can let go now." Anayah laughed as he slowly withdrew from her and they both got out of the pool.
"The pool's freezing today." Anayah grabbed her towel.
"Really? It's not." He smiled at her, getting closer to her.
"Uh... Never mind." She proceeded to wipe her hair when the towel fell from her hands and into the pool.
"Great." She rolled her eyes, got it out and squeezed it.
Christian just chuckled and put his dry towel around her, his hands on her shoulders as he looked into her eyes.
They were in that position for a few seconds until Anayah cleared her throat and looked away.
Other people began to enter. Apparently they were preparing the place for a pool party in two days time.
Anayah laid eyes on Renar, who was walking with a girl, who had a book in her hand, showing him something.
His eyes locked with hers and she could see the warm look he had.
"Beautiful... How are you?" He hugged her.
Her eyes widened, "Much better. Thanks." She hugged him back, "Thanks for saving me. Really means a lot." She closed her eyes, "Sorry I acted so foolishly in the car. I was just shocked you were there, holding onto me... After all you told me."
"I'm here for you. Forget all I said the other day. Let's start over. Please..." He tightened his hold on her, his eyes closed as well.
They pulled out of the embrace and Renar planted a kiss on her forehead. He looked up and noticed Christian critically looking at them.
"Thank you." Anayah smiled lightly and walked to Dylan who was now entering.
She quickly hugged him and pecked his cheek.
"Thank you Dylan..."
"Ayah, I'm always here for you. So happy you're up and active now." He pecked her cheek as well.
"Sorry my dad didn't allow you... And Renar to see me." She laughed.
"Oh it's cool. It's all good. He's only looking out for you."
Anayah nodded, turned to glance at Christian, then at Renar, who was looking at her the whole time, his eyes full of jealousy.
"See you later." She said to Dylan and left.
***
Anayah spent the rest of the day talking to her lecturers and taking notes. She was determined to catch up.
She later met up with Ronné and Brad to have lunch.
Dylan and Renar joined them. They were all friends again.
Although Anayah had forgiven both of them for their words and actions, things were still kinda awkward. Especially with Renar.
She's grateful to him for saving her but she still hasn't forgotten his cruel words. She was on better terms with Dylan.
Renar sat across Anayah on the table and he stared at her, making it so obvious to the others.
Anayah stared at him too, but she would break eye contact for a couple of seconds then look at him again.
"Anayah!" Christian called out from another table.
Everyone on the table turned to look at who called Anayah. Except for Renar, whose eyes refused to leave Anayah's.
"Gimme a sec, guys." Anayah stood up.
"Who's he?" Dylan asked Ronné.
"Christian. Just someone." Ronné told them, looking uncomfortable, "Wonder what he wants."
Renar turned to look at them; as Christian hugged and pecked Anayah's cheek.
"What's cooking?" She asked him, noticing him looking at the table she just came from.
"You know Ronné?" He asked her, a little nervous.
"Yah. My best friend. Why?"
"Interesting. Just curiosity. I know her too." He smiled.
"That's nice. Got to go. Need to go home early. Doctor's appointment." She was about to walk away when he held her arm.
"What's wrong? Is that why the pool was freezing to you? You're not well?"
"Long story. Tell you later?" She smiled.
"I wanna get to know you, Anayah. Gimme your number." He caressed her cheek.
She sighed, gently removed his hand from her cheek and took his phone to dial her number.
"I'll call you." He smiled lopsidedly.
"Please don't." She laughed and walked back to the table, told her friends she had to leave for her last checkup with the doctor at home, pecked the cheeks of Ronné and Brad, and pecked Dylan close to his lips and smiled.
Just when she was about to kiss Renar's cheek, someone called out for him so he turned to look at the person, and unconsciously turned back, only to be kissed on the lips by Anayah.
