Chapter Three

"Oh, are you going this way, too?" Tadashi asked from behind me.

Tsukishima was quick to scold him for talking to me, but it was too late; they already had my attention.

"I am going this way," I smiled back to Tadashi, but I looked up to Tsukishima, "But, I can walk like ten feet behind you if you want to be weird about walking together."

"Who said I was being weird about it? I simply just didn't want your company any longer than I had to today, but feel free to walk with us," the tall male smugly replied, as he walked past me.

Tadashi waited for me though, and I walked with him until we caught up to Tsukishima. I didn't really think there would be a lot to talk about with the two of them, seeing how Tsukishima was so excited to see me join them and Tadashi seemed so timid, but Tadashi wasted no time bringing up the three-on-three scrimmage.

"I'm sorry. I know if I would've made more of my serves, we probably would've won," Tadashi instantly said, keeping his head down.

I couldn't tell if he was apologizing to me or his bully of a friend...or maybe he was just apologizing for himself. The apology didn't seem directed towards either of us, but Tsukishima seemed a lot less shocked than me, letting me assume that this was a normal occurrence.

"Oh, knock it off," Tsukishima grumbled. "You aren't the reason we lost. We lost because we got stuck with the stupid girl."

"Tsukki! That isn't very nice," Tadashi instantly replied.

"I'm only speaking the truth here—"

"Really, because I'm pretty sure if someone was watching the ball while blocking rather than the hitters, Tanaka wouldn't have had a wide-open line shot," I interrupted.

The tall male glared at me for a moment, and I watched Tadashi coward a bit. I expected some sort of rude, smart-ass comment from the blonde, but his glare slowly turned into a vengeful smirk.

"I suppose you have a point on that one," he coolly admitted.

No, his response had both Tadashi and me caught off guard, but neither of questioned it. We just continued to walk, occasionally talking about the game. Tadashi always had something encouraging to say, while Tsukishima spent most of his time bashing the other two first year players.

Finally, we reached Tadashi's neighborhood, where we stopped in front of his house.

"Well, this is me," Tadashi smiled. "Goodnight (Y/N). Night Tsukki!"

He gave us a small wave as we both wished him a good night. I'll be honest, I was hoping it was either going to be Tsukishima or me that got dropped off first to avoid this awkward situation, but I was also curious about it. Was this first year always so spiteful?

"I'll let you walk with me as long as you don't start to annoy me," he smugly stated as he continued to walk.

At first, I didn't mind his digs. Some of them were almost amusing, but I had been around them all day that I could feel it starting to get under my skin- but that's just what he wants. If there was anything transparent about this guy, it was the fact that he likes to know that he's irritating someone.

"Tsukki..." I mumbled to myself, loud enough to see that it caught his attention, "that a rather cute nickname for you."

He instantly scowled, "Don't call me that."

"Why not?" I questioned. "It's so cute and fitting for you...I think."

He seemed taken back for words but still held an irritated look on his face. "I just want to make it clear that this is the only time you'll be walking back with us. Yamaguchi is too nice sometimes..."

"Maybe if he didn't have to make up for the negativity that surrounds him," I responded.

I watched his hands fidget a bit, but he didn't speak. Maybe I actually got to him. I didn't think it would be that easy-

"He's only nice because he doesn't want people to feel bad. Don't take it too much to heart," he snickered.

"God, are you always this amiable or do you just like me?" I sarcastically replied.

"That's a pretty big word for you, don't you think?" he commented.

"I am a second year. I am your superior," I reminded him.

He stopped walking and leaned down to my level. "I'll start treating you like my superior once I feel like you are my superior."

"Seeing how you play on the court, it shouldn't be too hard," I muttered, walking passed him.

"As if you showed any jaw-dropping skills out there. All you did was play back row, and half of the balls Hinata didn't even hit over the net," he snickered.

We were approaching my house, so I knew that there wasn't much time to get the last word in- and I wanted oh so badly to get the last word in with this guy.

"Don't worry, I'll be here all year, so I'll be able to show you up in the front row, too," I told him, as I stopped in front of my house.

He looked annoyed and like he was about to make another rude comment, but he stopped himself short when he looked back at my house.

"You're kidding me...don't tell me this is where you live," he sighed, rubbing his temples.

"It sure is. Why are we like neighbors or something?" I joked.

He groaned. "I live down the street...this doesn't make sense. I would have had to see you at some point."

"Probably not, actually," I commented. "The girls have conditioning before school, so I leave before you do. Then, you guys start practice an hour after us because of weight training."

"Well, let's not make a habit of this," he muttered before walking off.

This is my chance. Take one more dig (Y/N).

"Bye Tsukki! It was nice meeting you!" I called after him.

I watched his body tense as he kept walking, ignoring me, but I still couldn't help but go inside laughing.
