Chapter Ten
~Time Skip~
It had been a few weeks since Tsukki had walked me home. I hadn't really seen him besides class. I hadn't really seen anyone. I was so focused on volleyball and so was everyone else. That was until today. It was the Interhigh Preliminaries.
"Hurry up guys, I want to make it to part of the boys' game," Michimiya said ahead of us all.
We lost on our second rounds, and even though I was a little bummed about it, Michimiya wasn't going to let any of us sulk about it.
"Hang on Michi," Mao told her. "We did just finish playing."
Michimiya paused for a moment, looking to the ground. "That's true...I was just hoping since we were done, it didn't mean that the boys were."
I could tell that she was taking the loss rather hard, not that I could blame her. She was a third year. Even I was taking it hard, and I still had all next year.
"They're still playing. Come on, we better get going," I told her, trying to stay positive.
She gave me a smile in return, and we all made our way to the gym, where the boys were currently playing. They were playing against Aoba Johsai. They were just starting their third set.
"Look, we made it just in time!" Michimiya cheered.
We all took a seat together to watch the boys. However, Aoba Johsai was a tough opponents, and in a lot of ways, a lot more put together then us. The entire set had me on edge. It was easy to see that our boys were tired, but they were determined. Even Tsukkishima was playing hard, a lot harder than I had ever seen him practice. They were all playing great, especially Hinata. However, I was taken off guard when I saw that coach Ukai decided to put Tadashi in as the pinch server.
"What is he doing?" I mumbled to myself.
"Oh yeah, (Y/N), I forget that you played with them at the beginning of the year. Do you know the first years very well?" Mao asked me.
"Sort of..." I replied, focusing more on the game. "I have talked to one they just put in, and the blond with the bad attitude...but I don't see why Tadashi would be the pinch server..."
I was really rambling to myself. Tadashi looked so nervous as he approached the line, he even lost the ball. I couldn't help but wait in anticipation. They were down by two and needed this serve. Tadashi threw the ball into the air and jumped to serve it. It looked like a clear ball, but as it hit the net it landed on our side.
I let out a small sigh, leaning back into my seat.
Come on boys, you got this.
Luckily, it seemed that Tadashi's serve didn't shake the team at all but actually built them up. Their energy was at an all time high, but you could tell that they were getting tired. Aoba Johsai only needed one more point, but thanks to Hinata's quick attack, we only needed two. But after a long couple of rallies, Hinata's move was seen through, and the last ball was blocked, giving Aoba Johsai the win.
"They...lost," Michimiya commented in disbelief.
"They fought so hard..." Mao added.
The boys all huddled to a circle after the match. I told the girls that I wanted to stay a moment to tell them how well they competed, and Michimiya agreed. We all waited patiently outside of the arena, waiting for them to come out. Ennoshita and Narita were the first to exit. I only talked to them for a moment before Dachi and Suga joined us, and despite the loss, they both seemed to be pretty light hearted about everything.
"I'm sorry about your loss guys, you guys really did put up a good fight," I told them.
"Thank you for staying and watching," Dachi smiled to me. "Oh, (Y/N), before you wonder off too far, I was talking to Suga, and I think we're going to have some people over at my place tonight. I was going to tell all the guys to come, and you girls should too. A way to celebrate the season, I guess," Dachi explained.
I couldn't help but noticed that he looked past me when telling me the news. He was in fact looking to Michimiya. An instant smile formed on my face.
"Yeah, we can be there," I told him. "Just text me what time."
Just as Suga was about to say something, I saw Tadashi and Tsukishima come out of the arena.
"Wait, just give me a minute," I told him, excusing myself.
"Hey, good game you guys. Tsukki, I didn't know you could actually play that hard, not that it was overly impressive," I said to him.
"I told you to stop-"
"Yeah, yeah, and Tadashi, I hope don't beat yourself up over that serve. We all miss sometimes. It's nothing to stress about," I reassured him.
"Oh! Th-thank you," Tadashi bowed his head.
"Whatever, I'm getting on the bus," Tsukishima growled, walking away.
Tadashi gave me one more smile before following after him. I then waited for Tanaka and Nishinoya. We talked for only about ten more minutes before boarding the buses and heading back.
