07:28 PM. NORTHERN WATER TRIBE
y/n runs through the city of agna qel'a, making sure there's no one there. if all the citizens have run somewhere else, she can use the water form here to protect this home.
"y/n!" she turns, seeing arden running towards her.
"arden!" he hugs her, seeing that there are no scars on her body or face. "w...what are you doing here?"
"my sister and your brother are evacuating and i just wanted to make sure that everyone had left,"
"okay, then," she nods, taking in the information. "let's go," arden takes her hand, ready to run before they both hear a voice.
"wise girl," she turns, seeing the firebender who cut her hair. "who's this? you replacing me already?"
"you need to go," y/n whispers to arden.
"i'm not leaving-"
"you are leaving," y/n says to him. "you're the prince of this water tribe. you are the priority,"
"but-"
"go," y/n says, softly. "i'll be with you in a moment," arden squeezes her hand, looking at the firebender, who smirks at him. he runs off, leaving the two benders in each other. "what are you doing here?"
"my cousin is my best interest," he says, taking a step closer to her. fire ignites his hand. "was that your boyfriend?"
"you need to leave," y/n says, going into stance. "or i'll force you out with no feeling in your fingers,"
"you challenging me, wise girl?"
"take it how you want to, fire brain," y/n says, squinting her eyes at him. keahin tilts his head at her, the fire going brighter in his hand as he aims it towards her.
out of nowhere, arden jumps out, taking the hit. y/n's eyes go wide in fear as keahin falters. he didn't try and hit him. he didn't try to hurt him at all.
"arden!" y/n says, dropping to her knees. the said boy winces, holding his hand over the burnt skin, blood seeping from his clothing. "oh my..." y/n mutters, bending water from the closest fountain.
she learnt how to heal yesterday. she can heel him. she will. she pushes the water over his wound, trying not to panic.
"i-i'm okay," arden says with a whisper, holding y/n's hands still. "i'll be okay,"
"you should have left," y/n mutters, hot tears streaming from her face. "you should have just left me and him,"
"i couldn't leave y-you," arden winces, trying not to. he can't worry her anymore than she already is. but he doesn't feel too good.
"stay here," she says, moving the water over his wound. even though he might be at death's door, arden couldn't help but admire y/n's beauty. the moon is perfecting it. her freckles, looking like stars. and he wasn't the only one that thought. "you!" she stands up, turning to keahin.
"i'm-" keahin ducks from the ice disks that are thrown at his face. he heats up his hands, blocking each other. she's gotten faster. y/n kicks towards him, water spikes at her wake. she bends the water around her, it getting on keahin's clothing. she freezes his clothing, bending him into a wall.
keahin gasps, looking up at the waterbender who's looking down at him. deja vu, anyone?
"you fire nation are all the same," she says before the moon goes red. she gasps, falling to the ground. where's her bending? arden reaching for her. he gets up, slowly, pointing a spear at the firebender. "let him go, arden. i can't protect you. i can't bend," she locks eyes with the firebender, brown meeting gold. "go,"
"i'm so sorry," keahin says, getting up slowly. "i-"
"just go," keahin looks at her one last time, before running off to go and find his cousin. arden drops the spear, getting to y/n.
"what is that?" arden says, looking up the sky, seeing no moon but a massive creature. blue and dark. is that avatar inside?
"that's aang," y/n mutters, her eyes going wide. "that's aang. i need to get to him, i-" she lets out a groan, forgetting she can't bend. "but i can't leave you here,"
"y/n!" y/n turns her head, seeing katara. "are you okay?"
y/n scrambles, getting up and hugs her sister. she kisses the side of her head, wiping away the blood.
"yeah, i'm okay," y/n smiles. now, all she needs is her brother. and aang. "the prince isn't though," the two waterbenders help arden up. "can you bend? i can't bend and the moon is gone and aang is that whatever that is-" y/n takes a deep breath in. and a deep one out. "are you okay?"
"yeah, i'm okay," katara says. "we need to get to aang!" yes, they do.
💧
they make it to the wall, arden being tended to some healers who are using remedies to try and heal him.
y/n watches in horror as aang destroys the hoard of fire nation ships. don't get her wrong, this us very much deserved. but not from aang.
"aang!" katara calls out. "aang!" but it falls on death ears. "aang! it's over! please come back!"
"aang! please! come back!" y/n shouts. "you're not just the avatar! you're my family! our family! mine, katara's and sokka's! this is your world! this is your home! we are your family!"
"aang!"
the moon appears in the sky, y/n feeling her bending come back. she turns back to arden, seeing him being healed by water from the healers.
"aang, listen to me," katara whispers. but she knows he can hear him. "i know you think you don't belong in this world, but you were never meant to die a hundred years ago. if you had," y/n could have been the avatar. "you wouldn't be here now, and the world needs you,"
"we need you," y/n whispers.
the raging spirit falls into the water as the moon has returned. a tear slips from katara's eyes as y/n's face stays teared stained.
a blinding light appears from the water, the avatar appearing from the light. his avatar state activated, a water ball surrounding him.
now, that is the avatar.
💧
y/n, katara and aang walk through agna qel'a. it's not the beautiful city they saw when they came here first.
y/n sighs out, rubbing her eyes.
"so much destruction," aang says, looking around. y/n falters as she sees one of the boys that called her a master. tears slip from her eyes as yagoda closes his eyes.
aang and katara breath in deeply, noticing the other boy. he was betrothed to princess yue. and now, she's gone too. y/n doesn't now how but she felt it.
aang huffs, taking out his glider. he jumps off the platform, flying away. y/n watches him, helplessly. what can she do?
💧
y/n helps some other women, bend away the debris before she feels a tap on her back.
"arden," she smiles, hugging him. "i'm so sorry about...yue," arden gives her a sad smile, hugging her tighter.
"thank you. i will forever love my sister. but i know she's okay and strong," arden says, letting go of her. "uh, but anyway, you're leaving soon, right?"
"yeah," y/n says. this is one of her homes. but she needs to help the avatar on his quest. "but i'll be back. when this is all over,"
"here," arden says, putting a necklace over y/n's head. "water from our oasis. it has extreme healing properties,"
"and you're giving it to me?" y/n says, looking at the beautiful container. "are you sure?"
"after everything," he says, giving her a kiss on the cheek. "i couldn't be more certain," y/n smiles at him.
💧
aang stands at the top of the city, his glider in his hand. y/n, sokka and katara stand behind him, a tear slipping from his eye.
"i caused this,"
"no, aang," y/n says.
"the fire nation did," katara adds on.
"because i failed to be the avatar," aang continues. "how do i do this without causing so much pain?"
"aang, this war," sokka says, pointing out to the fallen city. "there's going to be losses. there's going to be pain. none of that is your fault,"
"and the firebenders aren't giving up," katara says. "we have to prepare for whatever the throw at us next,"
"so stop worrying about the past," y/n says, giving him a motherly smile. "we have a future to prepare for,"
aang turns around, looking at the southern water tribe siblings.
"i think i understand something gyatso was trying to tell me," aang tells them. "he told me let go of the past, or i'll never have a future,"
"and he's right," katara nods. "you're going to learn waterbending,"
"and me and katara are going to make sure of that," y/n nods, putting her arm around her sister's shoulder. "and then earthbending..."
"which means back to omashu," sokka smiles. and then they all do. the gaang all smile. "so? everyone else hungry?"
"sokka,"
"why is everything always about your stomach?" katara asks.
"because it's were brain is,"
"oh, says the kid with the melon head," sokka says, making y/n snort. aang fakes a gasp, knowing it's all playful fun.
"i could go for a melon," katara fantasies as the gaang starts to walk.
"see? food is always the right answer," sokka says. "you just got to listen to sokka,"
"said no one ever,"
"hey!"
