Sunset Boulevard was one of Elara's favourite spots, she used to love sitting outside of a cafe and people-watching, or celebrity spotting. Now it was crowded with tourists and traffic.

Elara took a left down a quiet side street, and kept walking for what seemed like hours, she didn't have a particular goal of where she wanted to go — she didn't exactly have anyone or anywhere she could go to.

She noticed no matter how long she walked, she didn't get tired. So far she couldn't think of many perks of being a ghost but this was definitely one of them.

In the distance the sky was beginning to change colour, from dark blue to luminous orange and pink. She'd forgotten just how much she missed watching the sun rise and set, it brought slight tears to her eyes.

Stopping in her tracks, she looked around at where she'd ended up, Venice Beach. The sand stretched for miles and palm trees towered over her as she watched the waves lap onto the sand. Taking a seat on one of the benches, she decided to stay there for a while — she wasn't in a hurry to go anywhere else.

"Come on, Julie! Please?!" Luke begged as he balanced on a broken tree as he walked besides her and his band mates along Venice Beach at 10am.

"Please, Julie?" Alex and Reggie pleaded in harmony.

Luke had been begging Julie to let them perform at the beach all week, he'd missed doing impromptu performances and he yearned to play his guitar again.

"Okay! Okay, if it'll make you all happy." Julie agreed, secretly smiling to herself.

They picked a spot and Julie began to sing, a few people glanced at her but didn't stop until the boys appeared behind her with their instruments.

Elara heard music playing in the distance and decided to check it out, as she got closer she saw a young girl singing and three boys behind her. Two playing guitars and one playing the drums. She wondered how he'd got his drum set all the way to the beach but didn't think too hard about it, after all it wasn't the weirdest thing that had happened in Los Angeles.

She watched them from a distance for a while, amazed at how talented they all were. When they'd played a few songs they all took a bow and the crowd surrounding them dispersed.

The boys proceeded to goof around with each other now that they thought no one could see them. Elara wished she could tell them how good they were, but she walked away down to the ocean letting the waves wash over her feet. She couldn't feel it but it brought back some of her favourite memories of when she was younger and took day trips to the beach.

When the beach started to become too crowded Elara headed back up the beach, only to spot one of the guitarists from the band she watched earlier sitting on a broken tree, alone.

He was one of the cutest boys she'd ever seen, with big brown eyes and curly brown hair. When he looked up suddenly she jumped, realising she'd been staring too long. For a moment he stared at her, she looked behind her to see what he was looking at, surely he couldn't be looking at her?

Both of them seemed to stare at each other, debating whether to say anything, unsure whether the other person could see them.

Luke stood up, taking a step towards the girl in front of him, "can you... see me?"

Elara felt nervous, "of course I can... you can see me?" Her eyebrows were furrowed slightly, confused as to how a teenage boy could see her but her own parents couldn't.

He nodded, "are you... you know, dead?"

She was surprised by his bluntness but she nodded, "yes."

Luke let out a sigh of relief, then smiled which filled Elara's stomach with butterflies, "me too!" He lowered his voice slightly, "sorry, it's been a while since I've met anyone new that can see me apart from my band and a few other ghosts."

"Your band... you're all ghosts?" Elara asked.

"Oh, no... Julie is human, when we sing with her we're visible to humans but when we stop performing they can't see us anymore." Luke explained.

"That's kinda..." Elara trailed off, unsure how to describe it.

"Crazy? I know!" Luke exclaimed,

"Yeah! Your band is amazing by the way, I was watching you earlier and I couldn't get over how talented you all are." Elara said.

"Thanks, I'll make sure to tell them," Luke grinned, "I didn't catch your name?"

"Elara." She replied.

"Elara... that's a pretty name. I'm Luke."  He smiled softly, she couldn't get over how adorable the boy in front of her was when he smiled.

"Luke!" Elara heard someone calling him from the distance, she turned to see his band mates and the girl she'd seen earlier heading towards him.

"I should probably go, but it was nice meeting you, Elara..." he turned to leave but turned back around, "we're playing a show at the Orpheum on Friday at 9pm, it'd be cool to see you there." He winked before spinning back around and jogging towards his friends.

Elara was looking forward to seeing them perform again, she just had to figure out what to do in the meantime to pass the time.
