eleven.
Nick felt strange ever since that day he went to visit Julie to congratulate her on her performance at the Orpheum. He didn't recall anything out of the ordinary happening, he gave Julie some flowers and then went with her to the garage to watch the band perform whilst Flynn danced around.
It wasn't until a few days after when he finished brushing his teeth and looked up in the mirror he nearly screamed in horror. Someone else was looking back at him in the mirror.
He rubbed his eyes and looked again but he was still there.
Inside his head a voice stirred, hello Nick... you won't remember this when it's all over but for now you are my new body, and you are going to help me with my revenge.
Before he had a chance to do anything Nick felt faint, he stumbled out of his bathroom and fell onto his bed, falling into a deep sleep.
Hours later he woke up, but Nick was no more. Instead, Caleb Covington was occupying his body, intent on revenge.
Looking around the young boys room in his new, human, body he heard a phone buzzing somewhere. He searched high and low until he finally found it under a pile of clothes.
He shuddered before picking it up, "ugh, teenage boys."
The name Carrie appeared and then a string of messages when he didn't answer the phone popped up.
Carrie
hello?! i need to talk to u
Carrie
we need to come up with
a plan for the talent show to
beat julie and her silly band
Carrie
also i changed my mind
Carrie
we are dating again, ok?
it's better for both of us
Carrie
meet me at my locker at 9
Caleb read the messages and grimaced, this girl was going to be an obstacle... or she was going to be helpful if she, too, hated the phantoms.
He scrolled back through the messages and noticed that Carrie had mentioned a talent show... he made a mental note of this as it would definitely be a good place to start his revenge.
Glancing around the room he found Nick's calendar with all of his important events. If he wanted to blend in he'd have to act the part.
This week he had two calculus tests, Caleb rolled his eyes, next week he had a guitar lesson and then the week after was the talent show... Caleb may not have thought everything through about taking over a teenagers body but he knew it'd be worth it if he could get rid of the phantoms for good this time.
He looked down at the clothes Nick was wearing, "first we need to find some clothes that look like they didn't come out of the garbage, then I'll go and meet your girlfriend... oh Nicholas, you poor boy."
Once Caleb was finally happy with his outfit, faded jeans with a gold chain, a designer t-shirt and custom leather jacket, he gave himself an approving nod in the mirror and grabbed Nick's backpack to head to school.
Carrie, the girl who never stopped texting him, was waiting at her locker and she definitely wasn't hard to miss in her bright pink apparel. Her jaw dropped slightly when she spotted him.
"I'm sorry, did you finally get stylish over night? I'm so glad we're back together now." She clapped, clearly ecstatic.
Caleb smirked, "I had to do something with those awful clothes." He draped his arm around the girls shoulders as they walked down the hallway.
He'd underestimated just how popular the boy who's body he'd jumped into was. All eyes were truly on him and Carrie as they walked through the school, the gears in his head were churning as he ran through ways this could give him an advantage in his plans.
When they turned a corner in the corridor he finally spotted who he was looking for.
Luke, Alex and Reggie.
They were leaning against a girl's locker who he assumed was Julie, the girl from their band.
She was another hitch in the plan, but nothing was too hard for Caleb Covington.
When he walked past them he pretended not to see them as they stared at the new and improved Nick, instead he smiled at Julie and gave her a nod, causing her to blush slightly.
Interesting, he thought.
This was going to be fun.
One person he hadn't noticed was Elara, who'd been standing by Luke the entire time, her hand holding his. She was still invisible to everyone apart from the boys, since she didn't have a connection to Julie like the boys do.
Caleb, who could see ghosts, just assumed she was another student, not bothering to notice just how close she was standing to one of his targets.
As Caleb in Nick's body and Carrie walked away, Julie was discussing the next talent show with the boys and Elara.
"We have to be even better than last time, Carrie is going to want to up her game now that she's seen what we can do." Julie sighed, getting her books out of her locker as Flynn joined her.
"Hey Julie and the boys!" She waved.
"and Elara." Julie added.
"Oh hi El!" Flynn nodded, still not used to Elara being around.
"I think I have an idea... but it involves all of us." Luke gestured to Elara and Flynn, who didn't usually get up on stage with them.
"Whatever you're thinking I wanna hear it." Alex chimed in.
"Me too, and whatever it is, I'm in." Reggie grinned.
"Alright, let's discuss it tonight in the garage!" Julie said, as she linked her arm through Flynn's and headed to their first class as the ghosts behind her poofed out of the school and onto another adventure until it was time to reunite with Julie later on.
