Chapter Thirty: Breathe

Maui smiles at me, "Uilani! Long time no see!"

I glare at him, "It's Isabelle. That's my name now."

A small Popplio waddles over, "Who gave you that name?"

"My trainer."

Maui blinks, "You have a trainer now?" He asks surprised.

"Yup."

Do you hear that?
It's the Kricketune.

I turn away, "Well, I'm gonna go find my friends. We can talk tomorrow, I guess."

Siren chuckles, "You know her always running away from her problems...I'll go with her to make sure...she doesn't kill anyone!"

She scampers after me, but I lose her in the cave.
Just as planned.

I decide to go and rain on Nightshade's parade.

Her and Leafeon are enjoying the beautiful sunset.
Ahh, it's so romantic.

They just look so happy.

"Aren't they just adorable?"

I turn to see Violet standing next to me.
She has a bunch of seashells in her hands.

I look her up and down, "Uhh, what're you doing?"

She gives me a confused look, "I'm just watching her. That's not weird."

I look around awkwardly, "It is."

Leafeon turns to us, "Isabelle is bothering your sister."

What a snitch.

Nightshade nuzzles her, "Violet can take care of herself."

"But, Isa's just staring at us."

Nightshade looks me straight in the eye, "Because we look good together."

The nerve of her!
How dare she-
Nah, they're pretty cute.
Don't tell anyone I thought that.

"I'm leaving."

Violet waves, "Well, okay...have fun."

Siren finally found her way out of the cave, which means I have to hide from her.

On a small portion of the island is a field covered in pink flowers.
I sigh and lie down in the flowers, closing my eyes, shortly dozing off to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"C'mon, Popplio!" Rowlet calls out to me doing loop de loops in the night sky.
I look up at him and groan, "No! Don't you have anything better to do?"
He flies down to me, "You don't have to be such a fun killer! Let's go have some fun!"
He jumps all around and I reluctantly get up, "Fine! Where are we going?"
"To Iki Town! It's a wondrous place."
"I can't swim that far."
He frowns, "Oh. Then let's just go to the highest point of the island. We'll gaze at the stars."
I lead him to a hill where you can touch the stars, "My father says that this is a sacred place where we can speak to our ancestors."
"That's cool! I wanna see it!"
I look down, "They don't talk to me. They'll talk to Siren, my father but never me. I'll bet it's because they're scared of me."
Rowlet wraps his wing around me, "Maybe they're just waiting for the right time to talk to you."
I shake him off, "That's not true. I know why they don't talk to me."
"Why's that?"
"It's some stupid prophecy and my supposedly mean personality.
Rowlet chuckles, "They're not wrong about the mean personality."
I frown then push him down the hill.
I forgot he had quick reflexes.
He grabs me and we tumble down the hill landing in a small pool outside of a cave.
"Hey, what's that?" I say as Rowlet shakes the water off of his feathers.
"You don't know what that place is?"
"No. I-"
"Uilani!" Siren calls down to me, "Who are you talking to?"
Rowlet stands still as stone, "Uhh, nobody!" I shout up at her
"Ok! Hurry back home! Dad is waiting for you!"
She runs back and I turn to Rowlet, "I've gotta go. Same place as always?"
He nods, "Same place as always."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I open my eyes and feel somebody next to me.

It's Siren.

I push her away, "What're you doing!?"

My voice echoes in the quiet night.

"I was sleeping." She says quietly.

"Well don't sleep next to me!"

"Isabelle!" Ducidueye flies down, "What are you getting mad about now?"

I glare at Siren, "Her! Why can't she just go away?"

I storm away, not waiting for an answer.

I head to the cave Rowlet and I saw all of those years ago, maybe my ancestors will want to talk to me after all of these years.

I stand at the entrance of the cave as Ducidueye runs over to me, "For a Primarina, you sure are fast."

"You're just slow," I say nonchalantly.

I take a step but he holds me back, "Hey. Are you okay? What's wrong with you? You're acting worse than usual."

He's asking what's wrong?
Oh, y'know, you only brought one of the worst Pokémon ever.

I push him off me, "You. Brought. Siren."

He glares at me, "She's your sister!"

"But I don't want her here!"

"Well, she wanted to see you! She swam for two days straight to see you and this is how you treat her? Like dirt?"

I shrug, "Her mistake. She's got her little boyfriend to bother."

Ducidueye steps in front of me, "You're not going inside that cave."

"What're you gonna do? Yell at me some more?"

He stands tall, "No. Grass beats Water."

I push past him and use Psychic to keep him out.

He pounds on the forcefield, "Hey! Let me in! What if something happens?"

"I can take care of myself!" I yell at him, heading deeper into the cave.

I walk up to a large lake of water.

A hole in the top of the cave allows the moonlight to shine down on the water.

I place a flipper in the water and the whole cave lights up with a soft blue hue.

"Whoa. This is amazing."

My ever so loving ancestors think otherwise and decide to strike me down.
Too bad their aim sucks.

I run out of the cave and when I get outside I see that Ducidueye has run off.

Probably to go get Siren.

It's raining too, storming to be exact.

There's thunder and lightning.
I must've really upset someone up there.

Was it Opal?
She's always got something to be mad about.

I scoff, "All because of that stupid prophecy. You can't just let it go?"
A bright flash of light lands right in front of me.

Okay, she must really be mad.

I should...go home.

Of course, Primarina Village is looking as peaceful as ever.

That's not what it's really called.
It's some exotic name that I never bothered to remember.

I see Siren down there talking to everybody.

Just look at how happy they are to see their sweet, blue-eyed, non prophesized child.

I hear Ducidueye next to me cleaning his wings.

"What is it now?" I sigh.

"You look sad."

"Sad? How about sangry?"

He chuckles, "Sad angry? Why?"

"Not every Pokémon ever born in this place is gonna be super nice and have blue eyes. And just because I'm different, my ancestors decided to make a stupid prophecy about it."

The village is all turned to Siren, I hear gasps of awe and amazement as she tells them about her travels.

I shake my head and waddle away, "I'm gonna go. Don't follow me."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not even this cave can give me solace.
I hate this place so much.
Everyone's so happy.
They're always smiling and praising each other.
They're always so genuine.
But not to me.
It's like they're waiting for me to do something when they smile at me.
"Where did I go wrong?" I whisper to myself.
"You could start by being nicer." A familiar voice echoes in the cave.
I can see her bright blue eyes shining in the darkness.
"I could kill you if I wanted you know."
"But we both know you won't." She says waddling over to me, "You never could."
I roll my eyes, "Aren't you special."
"So angry." A voice chirps.
It's Nightshade and Leafeon.
I turn to them, "Why are you two following me?"
Nightshade smiles, "Because you're being mean to your sister. What'd she ever do to you?"
Nothing.
Siren has never done anything to wrong me.
So, why do I dislike her?
She's too nice!
"Don't say it's because she's too nice." Nightshade says, "That's a bad answer."
I whip around to face her, "Easy for you to say! Your life must've been easy!"
She frowns, "Actually, its been anything but. But you don't see me yelling at people do you?"
I turn away from her.
"You can't blame your problems on others. Now, let me ask you again, why do you dislike your sister?"
"Because she's everything I'm not. My family loves her."
"That's probably because you act so angry all the time." Nightshade states, "Nice is good, mean is bad."
"Nobody hates you." Siren says reassuringly, "You're just different. Some people are scared of different."
Nightshade nods, "Your family would've kicked you out when they saw you if they hated you. Also, you have no excuse to hate it here."
"What do you know?" I snap at her, "Everybody loves you. I don't hear anybody telling you you're different."
Why did I say that?
Of course someone would tell her she's weird.
"They would?" Nightshade says crossing her arms.
Great.
Just great.
I just can't keep my thoughts to myself.
Now, Nightshade hates me.
GREAT.
"I didn't mean it like that-"
Her tail lashes back and forth, "So what did you mean? What? What else could you have possibly meant?"
"Calm down-"
Her tail erupts in flames filling the cave with a bright violet hue, "You calm down! You just said-"
"Stop!" Siren yells, "Stop fighting! Both of you!"
Leafeon backs away, shivering.
Nightshade sighs and slowly walks over to her, "Hey, hey, it's okay."
She shakes her head, "I just want to go home..."
Nightshade pulls her close and kisses the top of her head, while softly rubbing her back.
You know when you can tell when someone is resenting you?
I'm having that feeling right now.
Only this time, it's actually bothering me.
I sigh, this problem isn't going to fix itself.
"Nightshade....I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you."
She turns to me, "Well you did. It's gonna take a lot more than a sorry to make me forgive you."
No it's not.
Nightshade will forgive anyone.
"I got you and your girlfriend together. Do you really think I'd purposefully try to hurt you?"
Leafeon looks over at me, her eyes red and puffy with tears, "S-she is kinda r-right." She says in between hiccups.
Nightshade sighs, "I guess you're right..." She mumbles.
She looks up at me, that bright and happy glint in her eyes slowly returning, "But now you just have to apologize to Siren."
I roll my eyes, "In your dreams."
She frowns, "I'm telling Ducidueye your heads over heels for him."
NO.
I quickly turn to Siren, "Hey, sis! I'm truly sorry for how mean I was to you-"
Nightshade launches a Dragon Pulse at me, "Say it like you mean it, Isa."
Ugh.
Fine.
I just want to get away from here.
"I've been nothing but a jerk you. From the moment you were born, I've deeply despised you. But now, I think it's time we turn over a new leaf. I'm sorry."
Siren giggles, "Okay, Isa. No need to get so serious. A simple sorry would've worked."
Then, she tried to hug me.
I back away from her, "I said I'm sorry. I did not say you could hug me."
Siren nods, "You're right. I don't even know why I tried."
I would really like to know that as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We head back to the edge of the island where Honey, Violet, and Ducidueye are waiting for us.

Honey rolls her eyes, "Finally! You guys took forever."

She lowers her wing so Leafeon and Nightshade can climb up onto her back.

Nightshade pats her head, "Isa had some...issues she had to fix."
She gives me a hard glare before turning back, "But it's all good now."

Ducidueye scoffs, "I'll believe it when I see it."

"She said sorry," Siren says, barely able to hold back her excitement.

It's just a word, Siren.
Nothing to lose your mind over.

Oh, how wrong was I.
The two are acting like a cure for cancer was just discovered.

"We're leaving!" Honey announces before taking off.

Ducidueye winks at me before following after the black Charizard.

Never ever wink at me again.

Siren slips into the sea, "Are you coming?"

I look back at the island before nodding and following after the group and Siren.

I swore I could hear someone on the island calling my name.

Someone I hadn't heard in a long time.

It sounded...like my mother.

But, she died years ago.

Why is she speaking to me now?

After edit: I want you to know, I hated this chapter before the edit. I guess it's bearable now.
