Chapter Nine: How to Train Your Mudbray
"Well, Hapu, I don't think I need you to tell me how to do my job. I'm a professional."
This kids ego is baffling.
Miracle groans, "No, you're not."
"Well for starters," Hapu says, "The corral is dirty. There's a barrel there, some hay there... and I think little Mudbray here is a bit nervous."
Rudy's ears are moving around frantically and his tail is held closely to his body.
Y'know, I'd be scared too if some random kid decided to sit on me.
I'm gonna be nice for once in my life.
One Water Gun and Chase is off of Rudy.
Chase shakes the water off and glares at me, "Miracle! Your Brionne got me wet!"
Miracle shrugs, "Don't say or do dumb things."
Chase mumbles something under his breath before turning back to Hapu, "If the place wasn't dirty, how would he learn to see with his ears?"
I think Chase is sick.
He's saying all of these stupid things.
Did Rudy kick him in the head?
"He's blind?" Hapu asks
"Yeah." Chase mumbles.
What happened to all of that confidence?
Hapu smiles, "All the more reason to clean it. He won't be able to trip on anything that way"
Chase stutters, "Well, uhh... I have the Rockruff, she will help me uhh..." Chase trails off.
Miracle sighs, "I'm gonna be right back."
She limps away and returns a few minutes later with a black Furfrou.
Duke.
"What's he gonna do?" Chase asks as she leads him into the corral.
She grabs Rudy's reins in an attempt to lead him over to Duke but he refuses.
After seeing this Duke decides to help her out.
He pads over to Rudy and slips his head into the reins, and leads him around the corral.
Miracle blinks, "How did that happen? He wouldn't let me lead him around like that." She limps over to the fence and leans on it.
"Maybe it's because he realizes how bad you are." Chase says.
"You're one mean kid." Hapu says before walking away, taking Miracle with her.
Wow.
Who knew training a blind Pokémon was so easy!
"LARRY!" A voice shouts from the barn.
I decide to go see what all the screaming is about.
Tula is screaming at some blue eyed Pikachu who is currently sitting con the barn roof with Tiko, who looks more upset than when Tula made him mad.
I mean, he took off his fedora.
This is serious!
As serious as a Trumbeak's personal crisis can be.
He pushes the Pikachu off the barn, "You're not helping, Tula!" He yells.
The Pikachu lands next to me and sits up shaking his dust covered fur.
Tula turns to me, "Oh..hi, Isa." She sighs.
"What's wrong? Is Tiko being a butt?"
She nods and crosses her arms, "Not even Larry could make him happy."
Larry smiles at me, "Hello." His voice is low and silky.
"Ok, who is this?" I ask, keeping my eyes on the suave Pikachu.
"He's the therapist." Tiko states
Larry smiles, "How generous."
Tiko frowns, "This is really unnecessary."
Tula crosses her arms, "You haven't even gotten to know Larry!"
"I don't want to." He says before flying off to some tree somewhere.
"That went great," I say sarcastically.
"Alright. Time for plan B!" Tula says before running into the barn.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Plan B is well, creative.
Tula's plan is to climb up on the top of the barn and do an amazing summersault in the air and land safely on the ground.
Her amazing trick will make Tiko forget all about their argument.
The only problem is, Tula doesn't know how hard the ground is.
"Hey, Tula? This is a bad idea!" I shout.
Tula looks down at me and laughs, "No it's not! It's a brilliant plan! Right, Larry?"
Larry gives her a thumbs up and nods.
Arceus! Am I surrounded by idiots?!
"Are you crazy?" I whisper.
"I'm crazy for you." He winks at me.
Oh, sorry.
I had to hold back my barf.
Tula steps back, "Are you ready for the most amazing trick ever?"
"No!" I yell but I don't think she hears me or cares.
"Geronimo!"
She leaps off the barn, does the summersault, but when she realizes she's about to crash into the ground, she starts flailing her arms and screams.
I see a blur of black and white zoom past me and catch Tula before she hits the ground.
Tiko to the rescue!
He could've just said 'don't jump' but no, he has to be all dramatic about it.
Tiko gently sets Tula down.
Tula just lies there on her stomach, shaking.
Tiko sighs and sits down next to her, "That was stupid." He says with a smile.
"I know." She whispers.
"What were you thinking?"
"I wanted to make you feel better. So, I was going to do an amazing trick and it would be so amazing that you would forget all about our argument."
Tiko laughs, "That's the most outrageous thing I've ever heard!"
Tula pulls herself off the ground, "Ha! You laughed! It worked!"
I wonder, what would happen if Tula had gone splat on the ground.
Tiko smiles and goes into the barn. He emerges with his hat on his head and a smile on his face.
While Tula and Tiko talk, I decide to see how Rudy is doing.
Anything to get away from Larry.
The creep.
He's still in the corral, but this time he has a blue blanket on his back.
Miracle is sitting on Hapu's Mudsdale and is shouting out orders to him.
Chase is playing with Peaches in the barn with Lillie and Hau; as a professional trainer would do.
Hapu is standing next to Miracle watching Rudy.
Rudy is up against Charity and Thomas. For every move Rudy misses,
Charity gets two off.
"This isn't working, Hapu." Miracle groans.
"You're right, we need another plan." Hapu walks over to a hay bale and sits on it, thinking.
While her and Miracle think, I go into the corral to talk to Rudy.
"Hey, Rudy! What's up?"
"The sky." He turns his head up, "I'll bet the sky looks beautiful tonight."
He lies down, "What's been happening with you?"
"Tula and Tiko made up, I met a really weird Pikachu named Larry, that's about it. What're you doing?"
"Miracle's trying to find a way for me to battle. She said it'd be best for me to battle slower Pokémon, but most electric types are really fast."
"Good thing you have that ability."
"Yeah, I guess. But I don't just want to stand around and take hits, I want to be able to take hits then attack!"
I can't help but smile at his determination.
"You could train against me."
Mistake.
I just made a mistake.
He gets up, "Really?"
"Yeah. It'll be....fun..."
Before you criticize me, know that I would only do this for someone as precious as this Mudbray right here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the next two hours, Rudy and I train.
You can learn a lot about how a Pokémon works by battling them.
Rudy doesn't move unless an attack or Pokémon is close to him, when that happens, he's lightning fast.
But only with physical attacks.
For special attacks, he'll use his own attacks to counter them, if he knows where they're coming from.
The only problem is telling Miracle this.
The whole time she's been talking Hapu, Lillie, and Hau.
Rudy lowers his head, "What's taking so long?"
"She's talking. I don't she'll be stopping anytime soon." I grab his reins, "Ohhh this is so soft!" I say, stroking the flowers petals.
Rudy nods, "Yeah, the flowers are really soft, but I'm afraid it'll make me sneeze."
I chuckle, "Let's go find Duke."
Duke is sleeping in the barn with Chase and Peaches.
Chase has a large hat on his head and a pitchfork held loosely in his hand.
Looks like he was playing cowboy in the barn.
Rudy sneezes, causing Peaches and Duke to wake up.
Peaches yawns, "Can I be Dirty Dan?" She says, half asleep.
"Uhh, sure." I say.
She smiles and goes back to sleep.
I turn back to Rudy only to find Duke has already led him out of the barn.
You can't do that.
What if I wanted to have a conversation with my new son?
"
This barn really smells, yo! When can we leave?" A voice echoes in the dusty barn.
Silence, then a grunt of pain, "Shut up, you numskull! You'll give us away!"
I decide to investigate.
What better thing to find than two Team Skull grunts messing around.
One grunt lifts his arm, "Maybe it's me who smells."
The other grunt rolls his eyes, "That was a great observation, Grunt. Really helps us out on this mission here."
"Man! This is boring!" He kicks a hay bale, "This is the type of job that Gladion would have!"
"SHHHH! Be quiet!"
Alright, I think I've seen enough.
I decide to take care of the grunts myself.
I head back to Peaches and find that Chase is gone.
"Where's Chase?"
"Somewhere." She says, licking a paw.
Then, I get an idea.
"Want to help me with something?"
Her eyes widen, "Yeah!"
"Okay. Wait here."
I grab two ropes that were hanging on a stable door and give one to Peaches, I take the other one.
Next, I tie the grunts' legs to the ropes. I head back to Peaches and tell her we're going to race.
"Whoever gets to the fence across from us first wins."
Peaches wags her tail, "Ohhh I'm so excited! Can we go?"
"No, Not yet." I take my rope, "You have to keep hold of the rope at all times. Got it?"
"I got it! Now let's go!" She's raring to go.
"Wait! I need Rudy to help me."
Peaches goes to get Rudy.
I give him my rope and tell him the plan.
But Peaches still has to believe we're racing, so I take the rope on a random hay bale.
There sure is a lot of conveniently placed rope in here.
But, hey, I'm not complaining.
"Rudy is the watcher person or Pokémon. He'll tell us who won." I tell Peaches when I get back to her.
"Good! Good! Now can I please go?" Peaches jumps up and down.
I get in position.
"On your mark," I say my voice rising with every second.
"Get set."
Peaches body shakes with excitement and Rudy's breathing gets heavier.
"GO!"
Peaches dashes out of the barn and gets yanked back by the weight at the end of her rope.
But that doesn't stop her, using all her willpower, she moves forward until...
"AHHH!"
Just as expected.
The grunt comes wailing out of the barn, that's Rudy's cue.
He effortlessly pulls the other grunt out of the barn and wins the race.
Peaches barks in happiness, "That was fun! We should do that again!"
The grunt groans and she turns and growls, "Team Skull! They were hiding in the barn and I caught them?"
I nod and she runs in circles, "I have to tell Chase! He'll be so proud of me!"
Rudy walks over to us, "I won the race. What's my prize?"
Larry appears behind me and walks up to Rudy, "I'm sure you seeing me is prize enough."
Rudy blinks, "I'm blind."
"That's a shame. At least you can hear my beautiful voice."
Larry walks away into the sunrise, the gold and red shining behind him like flames.
The two grunts run past him, leaving me, Peaches, and Rudy to think about what just happened.

After edit: At least I got Larry right.
