Chapter 35
(F/n)'s POV
I looked over to the bed and saw, "M-mom..?" I whispered. "(F/n)?" She gasped with wide eyes. I ran over to her side and hugged her tight. "I thought you were d-dead." I whispered to her.
"I thought you were dead." She whispered back, starting to cry a little. "What happened to you?" I asked when I pulled away from the hug. "I got Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Or COPD, for short." She frowned.
"You-what?!" I gasped. "That's terrible!" I half shouted. "Will you get better..?" I whispered. "I'm afraid not." She sighed. "W-where's dad?" I asked her. "He's.." More tears rolled down her face.
"He's dead..isn't he?" I whispered. She nodded in response, and wiped away the tears. "He died on an expedition, not that long after Shiganshina was breached." She replied.
"Wait-did you join the scouts?!" She shouted, noticing my uniform. "I did." I nodded. "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? IF YOU DIE I WON'T HAVE ANYONE LEFT!" She screamed.
"Mom! I'll be fine, I have great comrades and a great captain that will help me when I need it." I calmly said. "I DON'T WANT YOU IN ANY MILITARY BRANCH, YOU HEAR ME? I DON'T WANT YOU TO END UP LIKE YOUR FATHER!" She cried.
"I won't end up like him, as long as Levi is beside me!" "L-Levi...? Who's Levi?" She mumbled. "M-my captain..and I have something to tell you about him." I mumbled the last part.
"What?" She sternly asked, wiping away more tears. "He's my boyfriend." I quietly answered. "He..WHAT?!" "Mom don't worry! He's nice...in his..own special ways..but he loves me!"
"Remember when I was little you said you guessed I would be eighteen when I met my true love? And that his name would probably start with an 'L'? Well I think that's Levi!"
"I said that just so you could be happy and have something to look forward to when you grew up!" She shouted. "Really? Because your prediction was quite accurate!" I replied.
I heard a beeping noise and looked at the machine next to her bed. (They may have not existed but YOLO) "You're dying!" I shouted, standing up and started to freak out.
"Was it because your heart rate increased?!" I asked her. She nodded, "I need to tell you something." She weakly said.
"What?" I kneeled back down beside her. "I didn't want to tell you like this, b-but you're..." She whispered. "Tell me!" I whispered back.
"You're adopted, (f/n). Your father was I-Ian..Kataoka. Y-your mother....."
Then the machine's beeping went flat. The noise no one ever wanted to hear.
"M-mom?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?! WHO'S MY MOTHER-...Ms. Kataoka..?" I screamed, whispering the end.
I started shaking my mother's body, wishing for a response. But I knew as hell that she was already gone. "WHY?!" I punched the bed.
"I KILLED YOU, I KILLED YOU! YOU DIED FROM OUR ARGUMENT THAT I STARTED!" I kept punching the bed, sitting on my knees on the floor.
I heard someone burst through the door and grab my wrists before I could punch the bed more. "What happened?" It was Levi.
"IT WAS ALL MY FAULT!" I screamed, trying to calm myself from anger and sadness. "Calm down (f/n), what happened?" He asked again.
"I killed my mother..." I whispered, barely audible. "What are you talking about?" He kneeled down next to me. "We had an argument..she died from increased heart rate." I answered.
"(F/n), you didn't kill her." He rolled his eyes. "Let's get the nurses to take care of your mother." He stood up walking towards the door. "She's not my mother." I covered my mouth, looking at her.
"What? You told me she was." Levi walked back over to me. "SHE TOLD ME I WAS ADOPTED! I THINK MY REAL MOM IS MS. KATAOKA!" I screamed, and Levi grabbed me by my waist since I was flailing around.
"She is?!" He lifted me off the ground, trying to drag me out of the room. "I can't believe they kept this a secret from me the whole time." I mumbled.
"Did she tell you who your biological father was?" Levi asked me, setting me back down in the hallway. "Ian Kataoka." I answered.
"Ian Kataoka? He's a retired Garrison member." We walked down the hallway and back to the front desk to tell them about my mother's sudden departure.
"Levi, let me go see Rani again. I have to talk to her." I said after we told the nurses at the desk.
"If you're going, I'm coming along. I don't want you hurt again." He said, holding out a hand for me to help me on to his horse. As I reached out for his hand, I quickly retracted it, putting it over my heart.
'Just like New Year's Eve.' "(F/n), what's wrong?" A worried Levi asked. I winced at the pain, before it went away after a few seconds.
"Never mind." I muttered under my breath. "Do you want to go back inside since the infirmary is right here?" He pointed back at the infirmary.
"No, I'm fine. Let's just go see Rani." I sighed, and he helped me on to his horse again.
'I don't want to tell him that I only have a year left to live.'
