Chapter 24
*A few weeks later*
(F/n)'s POV
Levi's birthday was this week, and I was still thinking of what to get him. 'Maybe Hanji will know.' I walked down to Hanji's office to see if she had any ideas.
After she let me in, I sat on the chair across from her desk. "So what can I help with?" She asked. "I'm having trouble with what to get Levi for his birthday. Have any ideas?" I asked her.
"Hmm..." She brought a finger to her lip, leaning back in her chair and looking at the ceiling. She must have gotten an idea, because there was an evil smile on her face now.
"You could give him your-" She said slowly. "Hanji! I'm only eighteen!" I gasped, hiding my face behind my hands from embarrassment. "I was just kidding!" She laughed.
"Never mind Hanji, I'll think of something myself." I sighed, getting up from the chair. "Ok, but if you need any help, you know where to find me!" She exclaimed before I exited her office.
'This may take awhile.' I walked back to my room and lied down on my bed, staring at the ceiling until I had an idea. "Aha! I've got the perfect gift!" I exclaimed, swiftly sitting up from my bed.
I jumped off my bed and went to my dresser, and opened the top drawer. I had a picture of Levi and I from awhile ago.
*Flash Back*
"Oh come on Levi, it'll be funny!" I exclaimed. "No." He glared at me. "Please!" I gave him the puppy eyes.
"I said no." He repeated. "*Sigh*, I guess you don't care about my happiness." I sighed, giving up and walking away.
"Ok fine, but make it quick." He held his head in his hand. "Yay! Thank you, Levi." I smiled, walking back over to him.
"Ready?" I asked him. "I guess so." He sighed. I got the camera out and put it in front of us, I pushed the button and quickly went to Levi's side.
The picture snapped, and we each hand a hand up making a heart with each other. I walked back over to the camera and grabbed the picture that came out.
"Oi! It's so cute!" I squealed, showing him the picture. "Tch. You keep it, I don't want anyone coming in here and seeing it." Levi replied, sitting back down at his desk.
*Flash Back End*
'It's perfect! Even though he told me to keep it, I think he should have it.' I didn't have a frame to put it in, but luckily we have a few days off this week so I can go into town and buy one.
We have three days off, the twenty fourth through the twenty sixth. I could just tell Levi I needed to get a few things from town so he won't be suspicious.
I stared at the picture for awhile until a sudden knock on my door snapped me out of my gaze. "Yes?" I asked, opening the door. "I have a letter for you." A cadet said, holding out a letter for me.
"Oh, thanks!" I grinned, grabbing the letter from him. The cadet smiled and left, I shut my door and sat on the end of my bed.
The letter was a bit crinkly and the ink was fading a little. The envelope said 'Cadet (f/n) (l/n)'. I opened it and the inked writing was messed up even more so it would be hard to read.
(F/n),
Sorry for what I d d to you. I ho e you can f give me. If y u want, we can do exper ments again.
M . ata ka
There were a lot of letters missing from the ink smearing. I sighed, putting the letter in my desk drawer and putting the picture of Levi and I that I was still holding, back in my dresser drawer.
I walked into my bathroom, starting the shower and looking at myself in the mirror. Every time I saw my reflection, (Mulan lol) I saw Ms. Kataoka. We looked a bit similar, but people have doppelgängers.
The letter was most likely from her. After a few minutes of staring at myself, I took my eyepatch off and stripped my clothes, getting in the shower.
*2 Days Later*
The other day I went out into town and got a picture frame for Levi's present. Hanji said that we would get a tree today, to put in the mess hall for the holiday.
We were on our horses, and the cart was on my horse for the tree. "So the scouts celebrate Christmas?" I asked her when we started down the path to a small forest.
"Yeah-well...sort of I guess. We don't do anything special besides throw Levi a birthday party that he doesn't ask for." She chuckled.
"What do you do for Levi's birthday?" I was obviously interested, wanting to know what they do. "We usually sing happy birthday, give him a new feather duster, and sometimes..we try and get him under the mistletoe!" She giggled.
"With who?" I asked a bit annoyed. "Last year we tried..Petra, but Levi got so flushed that he ran off!" She said a little sad at the beginning.
'Did he like Petra?' "We're here!" Hanji squealed, once we got to the forest. We both got off our horses and looked through the forest that had Christmas trees.
Hanji started running around like a little kid, "Look, there's so many!" She exclaimed. "Which one do you want?" I asked, when she finally calmed down.
"Oo! That one's perfect!" She shouted, running away to the one she was pointing out. She squeezed it in a hug, "Ow!" she quickly pulled back. "Tree hugger." I snickered.
It was a pretty tall tree, I would guess around six and a half feet tall. Hanji got her axe and I followed suit, and we started chopping down the tree. "Do you want me to take the tree back, so you can get the decorations?"
I asked Hanji as we continued to chop the tree down. "Sure." She smiled. "Did you ever figure out what to get Levi?" She added. "Yeah, I have an old picture of us I'm going to give him." I grinned, thinking of the picture.
"That's sweet." Hanji replied. Once the tree was down, we put it into the cart and I went back to HQ while Hanji went out to town to get decorations.
>>>Time Skip, brought to you by Levi dressed as Santa>>>
Hanji got back with the decorations and I had Reiner and Bertholdt set up the tree in the mess hall since they're pretty tall and strong.
We put the tinsel on and a few ornaments. While I was putting away some of the extra things that we didn't use, I saw the star still on the table.
3rd Person POV
"How are we gonna get the star on top?" (F/n) asked Hanji. "I got it!" Hanji exclaimed, grabbing the star. She walked back a few feet before running and jumping on a table near the tree.
She jumped off the table as soon as she got on it, landing on the tree and it fell over. (F/n) slowly looked up and turned around seeing Hanji underneath the tree.
"AHAHAHAHHAA!" (F/n) burst out laughing, and so did Hanji. "Well that's one way of doing it." (F/n) chuckled, getting the tree off of Hanji.
"Thanks." Hanji said, getting up and brushing off some of the pine needles on her. "What was that noise?" They heard a monotone voice ask.
They turned around and saw Levi with his eyebrows furrowed. Hanji and (f/n) looked at each other before laughing again. "Pfffft! Oh, it was the greatest thing!" Hanji laughed.
Levi rolled his eyes and walked back out of the mess hall and to his office again. Hanji and (f/n) fixed the tree and stood on a chair to put the star on top, instead of leaping on to it this time.
