2 | The Kids Aren't Alright

"Oh, come on! Seriously?! Do you know how long it took for us to set all this up?!" Caroline shouted when Matt walked in setting off all of the mouse traps.

"Forgot about senior prank night, huh?" Tyler asked.

"Clearly," Matt stated bemused.

"How could you forget? We've only been waiting for this since like freshman year."

"Yeah, Matt. If I'm doing this, you're doing this," Elena added.

"I'm kind of surprised any of you are doing this."

"Caroline's making us," Bonnie pointed out.

"We're about to be seniors. These are the memories that will stay with us forever, and if we don't..."

"And if we don't create these memories now, then what's the point of it all?" Maya finishes for her.

"Go ahead and make fun, I don't care."

"You're all lame. And I've got ten more classrooms to prank," Tyler said before picking up his bag and leaving.

"Hey! Where are you going?" Bonnie asked Elena.

"To superglue Alaric's desk shut. I'm making memories," Elena said shaking to super glue bottles.

"Ooo, let me help," Maya said following behind Elena smiling.

"I love you two!" Caroline shouts after them.

Elena laughs, opening the double doors but can't enter, "There's my girl."

"Klaus!" Elena shouted causing Maya to hide the best she could.

Elena turned to run but Klaus was already in front of her, "You are supposed to be dead. What are we going to do about that? Lets go, you too little wolf."

Maya came out from her position behind the doors. "Hmm."

Klaus had Elena by the arm but allowed Maya to walk herself.

"You put a rather large kink in my plans, sweetheart. The whole point of breaking the curse and becoming a hybrid was to make more hybrids. I haven't been able to do that. Now my bet is, it has something to do with the fact that you're still breathing."

"If you're going to kill me, just do it!" Elena pointed out.

"Not until I know I'm right. But I do have ways of making you suffer," he said before pulling her into the gym. Klaus then spoke in a faux American accent, "Attention, seniors. You have officially been busted. Prank night is over. Head on home."

"You two, I remember you," Klaus said reverting back to his actual accent and pointing toward Dana and Chad.

"I'm sorry. Who are you?" Dana asked confused.

"Oh, don't worry, I wasn't in my right head last time we met."

He then compelled her and said, "Lift your foot up, please, Dana." After she does this he turns to Chad, compelling him as well, "If she drops her foot, Chad, I want you to beat her to death. Understood?" Chad merely nodded.

"Nobody has to get hurt, Klaus, you don't have to do this," Maya pointed out.

"Oh, come on, love. Of course I do."

"Keep it up," Klaus said to a wobbly Dana. Maya began to worry so she went over to Dana and helped her stand up. This caused Klaus to stare at her in bewilderment. "What on earth are you doing?"

"Trying to make sure no one dies tonight."

"Where's Stefan? What did you do to him?" Elena began to ask frantically.

"Stefan's on a time out."

The door then opened causing everyone's heads to turn to the sudden noise and Matt and Bonnie entered.

Klaus vamp-sped over to Bonnie, "Ah, I was wondering when you'd show up. Now we can get started."

"Ah, Dana, why don't you relax? You and Chad sit tight." She then let out a sigh of relief letting go of Maya's shoulder.

"I assume you're the reason Elena's still walking around alive?" Klaus directed toward Elena.

"That's right. If you want to blame someone, blame me."

"Oh, there's no need for blame, love. Just your witchy interference seems to have caused some undesirable side effects. And since you caused the problem, I'm going to have you find the fix."

Once again, the door slammed open, revealing a very angry blonde chick and Tyler.

"Get off of me!" Tyler grunted trying get out of her grip.

"Hush now."

"I'd like you all to meet my sister Rebekah. Word of warning...She can be quite mean."

"Don't be an ass," she said before throwing Tyler into Klaus's arms.

"Leave him alone!" Elena and Maya shouted in sync.

"I'm going to make this very simple...Every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire hybrid, they die during the transition. It's quite horrible, actually," Klaus said ignoring their pleas. He bit into his wrist and forced Tyler to drink it.

"I need you to find a way to save my hybrids, Bonnie. And for Tyler's sake...You better hurry," he then snapped his neck and Tyler fell to the floor.

"Tyler!" Maya heard herself shout before running over to him. She then turns to Klaus and angrily charges at him, holding him up against the wall by his neck.

"You're going to pay for this Mikaelson," Maya practically growled. Klaus could have sworn he saw her eyes flash gold causing him to tilt his head to the side slightly.

"Maya, be careful, you don't want to make things worse," Elena said from behind them. Maya slowly lowered Klaus to the ground with a growl and walked toward her friends.

"He killed him," Matt said, squatting next to his best friend.

"He's not dead. Klaus's blood will turn him into a vampire," Elena corrected.

"He's still dead," Maya pointed out through clenched teeth.

"And if Bonnie's successful, he'll live through his transition. Go on, then. Go and fetch your grimoires and enchantments and what-not. I'll hold on to Elena...for safe-keeping. And you hot head," Klaus said pointing to Maya at the end.

As Bonnie left, Rebekah opened her mouth, "So this is the latest doppelgänger. The original one was much prettier."

"Enough, Rebekah. Take the wolf boy elsewhere, would you?"

"No, you can't take him," Maya protested and went toward Rebekah who was currently dragging Tyler by one arm, when she felt a pair of arms wrap around her waist. She tries to wiggle her way out but Klaus was too strong. Eventually he put her down. "Aren't you a feisty one?"

"Just ignore her. Petty little thing," Klaus said to Elena.

"Out of curiosity, were you just to lazy to figure out the answer to your questions yourself or?"

"There's the attitude we know and love," Klaus remarked as Stefan entered the room. Elena stood up from her position next to a distressed Dana and turned to Stefan, "Stefan..."

"Klaus," Stefan said ignoring Elena.

"Come to save your damsel, mate?"

"I came to ask for your forgiveness. And pledge my loyalty."

"Well, you broke that pledge once already."

"Elena means nothing to me anymore," Stefan explained, causing Maya to look at Elena who's face dropped, "And whatever you ask of me...I will do."

"Fair enough. Let's drink on it," Klaus said before pointing toward Dana and Chad, "Kill them. What are you waiting for? Kill them."

"No! Stefan, don't. He's not going to hurt me. He already said..." Klaus then hit her to the point where she fell to the floor. Stefan rushed over to Klaus, fangs out and all. Klaus then picked him up by his throat, "She means nothing to you? Your lies keep piling up."

"Let her go! I'll do whatever you want, you have my word."

"Your word doesn't mean much. I lived by your word all summer, during which time I never had to resort to this..." He compelled him, "Stop fighting."

"Don't do this, don't do this."

"I didn't want to. All I wanted was your allegiance. Now I'm going to have to take it."

"Don't...don't..." Stefan begged.

"You'll do exactly as I say when I say it. You will not run, you will not hide, you will simply just obey."

"No. Stefan!" Elena shouted.

"Now kill them. Ripper." Stefan vamp-sped over but Maya stepped in front of Chad and Dana.

"Get of the way, Maya," Stefan stated.

"No."

"I can't fight this."

"Yes you can, I know you."

"Maya..."

"You might want to move out of the way, he has been compelled, he doesn't have a choice," Klaus stated.

Stefan looked as though he were ready to pounce when she was suddenly wooshed out of the way. She landed on the floor with a thud, Klaus towering over her as she heard Stefan's animalistic growls as he tore the heads off of two of her former classmates. She closed her eyes, resting her head back against the floor, realizing she couldn't stop him. "Can you please get off of me?" she whispered practically begging him. He nodded standing up slowly, re-adjusting his clothing.

"It's always nice to see a vampire in his true element. The species has become such a broody lot," Klaus said sadistically.

"No. You did this," Elena protested, refusing to accept that her boyfriend is a ruthless killer.

"I invited him to the party, love. He's the one dancing on the table."

"Where is it?! Where's my necklace?" the blonde original whined entering the gym.

"What are you talking about?"

"She has my necklace. Look," she said showing her brother Caroline's phone and zooming in on the necklace.

"Well, well. More lies."

"Where is it?"

"I don't have it anymore!" Elena rushed out.

"You're lying!" Rebekah shouted, vamp-speeding over to Elena and biting her neck until Klaus came over and stopped her. "Knock it off!"

"Make her tell me where it is, Nik!" Rebekah whined.

Klaus then turned toward Elena who was holding her neck, "Where's the necklace, sweetheart? Be honest."

"She doesn't have it," Maya spoke up from her previous spot, joining them, "Katherine stole it."

"Katerina. Of course. Well that's unfortunate. If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?" He then turned on the clock, setting it to twenty minutes and turned to Stefan, "Twenty minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I want you to feed again. Only this time, I want you to feed on Elena. You know you want to."

"Klaus..." Maya began.

"No one leaves. If she tries to run, fracture her spine. Maya, you're coming with me."

"No, I'm not, and you can't make me," she protested.

"You're right but I can-" she cut him off.

"What? Kill me? We both know you won't do that, now, leave so I can make sure nothing happens to either of my friends because of you."

The clock continued to tick down as Elena tried to think of a ideas.

Six minutes. "Caroline's dad! Stefan, he was able to resist compulsion."

Five minutes. "You can fight this."

Four minutes, three minutes, two minutes, one minute.

Sixteen seconds.

"Elena you're going to have to run..."

"But Klaus said if I run..."

"I know what he said, but if you stay, it won't matter. Elena, please, please, please. Elena, there's no other way."

"There is another way, Stefan. It's for you to fight," Elena said as the buzzer went off.

"Elena run, I'll hold him off, go, now!" Maya shouted.

"Stefan...I love you. Fight, Stefan. Don't give up."

"I can't hold it."

He tried to vamp speed forward, but Maya stopped him.

"I can't hold him Elena, get the hell out of here." She ran out as fast as she could, leaving Maya and a struggling Stefan.

"You can fight this, just try harder, okay?" Maya said.

"I...can't," he said trying to escape but she still held him.

"Try harder, think about Elena. You love her too much to let Klaus force you to kill her. You just need to hold off until she can get out of here."

"And then what?" She was about to say something when Klaus entered the room, Elena in tow.

"Now this, this is fascinating. I've never seen this before. The only thing stronger than your craving for blood is your love for Elena, why don't you turn it off?"

"No!" Stefan shouted.

"Klaus, don't do this."

"Come on your humanity is killing you. All that guilt must be exhausting. Turn it off."

"No!"

"Stefan..." Elena said softly.

"You're strong," Klaus said pulling Stefan away from Maya, "But you're not that strong. Turn. It. Off."

"No!" Stefan shouted once again, pushing Klaus away. Klaus pushed Stefan up against the wall shouting, for the last time, "Turn it off!"

"What did you do?" Elena asked worried.

"I fixed him. Now Stefan, why don't you take a drink from the döppelganger's neck?"

Stefan vamped out and ran over to Elena, biting into her neck. "No!" Maya shouted.

"That's enough Stefan, we still need her alive."

"You are a horrible, vindictive, psychopath," Maya hissed.

"That's a tad harsh."

"No, it's not, it's actually too kind of me."

Klaus looked at his phone and grinned, "Looks like we solved are hybrid problem."

He left the room, Maya following behind him, the need to protect her brother growing stronger.

"What are you doing?" Maya questioned.

"You'll see," Klaus said before entering the room where Tyler was, he then tossed the vile of Elena's to Tyler and said, "You, drink that. The witches say Elena needs to die, my suspicions say you need to drink her blood."

"Tyler, don't," Maya said looking at her brother pleadingly. He sent her an apologetic look before downing the blood. He then fell to the floor, writhing with pain.

"What's happening to him?"

"Well, I do believe he's transitioning."

Tyler shouts in pain, holding his head, he looks up his eyes shining gold, veins forming under his eyes, and fangs growing from his teeth.
