Chapter 9: Drunk On Sadness

Thomas was sitting on the armchair, his head buried in his hands. How could he have kissed James? Why did he think that was okay?

James was sitting on the couch, looking down. He was feeling guilty, but he couldn't dwell on that. He had a man to court. He drew a shaky breath and looked at Thomas. "So...wanna go again..?"

Thomas thought he heard a certain...guilt to James' voice. But he told himself that it didn't make James any less of a monster. He looked over at James with teary eyes. "What do you think?" he hissed, a tear rolling down his face.

James opened his mouth to speak, but shut it when he realized he didn't know what to say. He looked down and mumbled, "Yes..?"

Thomas scoffed and shook his head, sniffling. "You're unbelievable..," he muttered, staring at the pattern on the armchair. It was much better than looking at James' ugly face.

And by ugly, you mean attractive, right? Thomas thought to himself. That thought made more tears roll down his cheeks. He had betrayed Alex. When all Alex had done was stand by him.

"Come on, you liked it," James said, rolling his eyes.

"If I liked it then I would've asked for an encore," Thomas growled, looking over at James. It sickened Thomas that James was in his dorm. He just wanted to be like Raven from "Teen Titans Go!" and banish James to another dimension.

But sadly, this wasn't a cartoon where everything ends happy.

   This was the real world.

James scoffed. "I know that you want one! And I'd be more than happy to provide you with one!"

Guilt stung at James' chest, making him nearly cringe. How had things come to this? James could've just confessed his love like a normal person, but no. He had to ruin everything by seperating what could have been the cutest couple on the planet. But he pressed on.

"Hell, I bet you've wanted to kiss me ever since we've met!" James said, crossing his arms.

Thomas' eyes darkened. "You did not just say that," he growled.

James forced a smirk. "Actually, I did."

"Do you know how much Alex meant to me?!" Thomas yelled, jumping to his feet. The sudden movement made James squeak with surprise. "He was my world! And you...you had to come and take him away from me!"

James stood up as well. "This isn't all my fault! You're the one that kissed me back!"

Thomas froze, realizing that James was right. He could've easily said no, but what did he do? He kissed back.

Tears rolled down Thomas' face. He needed to find Alex. "I-I gotta go..," he mumbled.

He didn't wait for a response from James. He just left the dorm.

   Left the building.

And went in the first place he thought Alex would be.

   The bar.

The door gave a hearty jingle as Thomas walked into the bar. It seemed as of the door's bell was unaware of the terrible circumstances that had fell upon the entering person and that everything was perfect.

Oh, if only that were the case.

Thomas' eyes scanned the busy bar, his heart yearning for the sight of Alex. After a few seconds of searching, he spotted Alex.

He was hunched over the bar counter, babbling to himself.

Thomas' heart broke at the state his love was in. He slowly approached Alex. "L-Lexi..?" hr asked quietly, reaching out to the drunk form.

Alex's head whipped to Thomas. "Whaaa? What are youuu doing hereee?" Alex slurred, his words cold despite the state he was in.

Thomas bit his lip. "I'm here to take you home."

Alex rolled his eyes. "Take me hoommmee? You destroyed my hearttt!" He clutched his heart dramatically, falling onto the counter. "Aaaaah. I've mcfallennnn."

Thomas tried his best not to giggle. "Alex, come on. I'm taking you home."

Alex scoffed. "As ifff!" he said in what sounded like the best Regina George impression in the world.

He was about to speak again, but his eyes widened as he stared at Thomas. "Toommmyyy?" he slurred, putting a hand on Thomas' face. "Since when did you become a llama?"

Thomas blushed as Alex pet Thomas' face. "Alex, we need to go home," he mumbled.

Alex was about to protest, but ended up falling asleep instead. Thomas threw the unconcious form over his shoulder and smiled a bit. "He's such a dork..," he said to no one in particular as he started to walk out of the bar with Alex.

As Thomas was nearing the college, he heard a familiar voice from behind him.

   "Thomas?"

Thomas turned around, Alex snoring quietly. "Wha--? Lafayette?" he asked, smiling widely.

"What are you doing out here at this hour?" Laf said flatly, still peeved at Thomas for hurting Peggy. Imagine how he would feel when he heard about...he won't. Thomas wouldn't let that happen.

"Oh...Alex got a bit drunk...I'n just helping him get home..," Thomas said, his smile fading a bit.

To Thomas' surprise, Laf smiled. "That was awfully sweet of you."

   Thomas smiled. "Thanks."

Laf looked around, then back at Thomas. "Ya know, I could accompany you on your way home, mon ami," he said, the use of the French words "mon ami" making Thomas' heart leap with happiness.

"Uh...y-yeah! That'd be great!" Thomas exclaimed, stuttering due to the sheer joy he felt.

Laf giggled and started walking back to the dorm building with Thomas.

Thomas looked at Laf. "So...why are you out here?"

Laf shrugged. "Eh. Sometime I like taking a nighttime walk. It really gives me time to think about my day and what happened." He looked over at Thomas. "And the friends I shouldn't have dumped."

Thomas smiled, looking down at his shoes. "It's all right. To be fair, I shouldn't have done that to Peggy..."

Laf glared at Thomas playfully. "No, you shouldn't have."

The two men shared a laugh, and by that time, thet had arrived at Thomas' dorm.

Thomas looked at Laf, getting out his key. "I appreciate the company, Laf," he said genuinely.

"Anytime, Thomas," Laf smiled. "So, I'll see you at class tomorrow?"

   Thomas nodded. "Definitely."

The two men waved goodbye, going their seperate ways. Thomas entered his dorm, happily surprised that James had left. There was a little note on the coffee table from him, though, but Thomas couldn't be bothered with that. He needed to get Alex to bed.

He set Alex down on his bed and pulled up a chair next to the bed. He stared at Alex, taking in all of his facial features. He was reminded once again as to why he fell for the short immigrant.

I hope he wakes up soon...I just wanna hug him.., Thomas thought. He was willing to wait ten years for his love to wake up. As long as he could have Alex in his arms once more.

   And so the wait began.
