[S1E14] - FrAmed
Alison sat with Aria, Spencer and Hanna while they all waited impatiently for Emily to show up. They had gathered after receiving an urgent text claiming that they needed to meet in Spencer's barn ASAP, and the waiting was beginning to nag at Alison.
Not to mention the fact that she had barely said two words to Emily since Tuesday.
She knew what Emily was doing. Emily was leaving space for Alison to make a move. Emily was telling Alison she would no longer initiate without having to say anything at all... and it was killing her. Alison wanted nothing more than to tell Emily the things she felt, but was afraid of sounding like a moron. She probably couldn't even put what she was feeling into a coherent thought if she tried.
Plus, the whole stunt she had pulled with Paige had definitely put her on Emily's bad side.
Then Emily let herself into the barn abruptly, startling the women.
"Guys," Emily panted. "I just met Jessica DiLaurentis' twin sister."
Everyone was silent. No one knew exactly what to say. Honestly, Alison wanted to ask Emily if she was drunk.
"What?" Spencer asked.
"Mary Drake," Emily said. "Her name is Mary Drake and when I was talking to her I couldn't stop thinking that it couldn't be a coincidence Charlotte called herself CeCe Drake and-"
"Woah, Em, slow down." Aria leaned forward. "Start from the top."
Everyone listened to Emily recount her run-in with Mary and Alison couldn't believe her own mother had never told her about a twin sister. Then again, her mom hadn't told her a lot. But did Jason know? And was it true that this could very well be Charlotte's real mother? Like Emily had said, it couldn't be a coincidence that Charlotte called herself CeCe Drake.
"And she's staying at the Lost Woods Resort?" Hanna wondered. "What a creep."
"Han," Aria said.
"What? It's true," Hanna defended.
"No, yeah that place was shut down years ago," Spencer agreed.
"She said she bought it," Emily revealed.
The five women just stared at each other, none of them sure of what to do. Emily was still shaken by the fact that Mary even existed. She could still remember finding Jessica's decaying body in Spencer's backyard. So seeing Mary, who looked a hell of a lot like Jessica, had really creeped her out.
"I say we go and visit her," Spencer suggested.
"Hell no," Hanna declined. "I am not going back to that scary hotel."
"And I think all five of us showing up would freak her out," Emily said.
"You think she didn't freak enough people out today?" Alison asked. "I mean if you thought she was my mom I'm sure other people had the same idea."
Alison and Emily just looked at each other. Both of them felt the same intensity as the other day. Emily pulled away first.
"So what?" Spencer shrugged. "We just sit around and hope she comes back and starts answering our questions on her own?"
No one seemed to protest the idea.
"If she had enough balls to show her face at Radley, I'm sure another visit is in order," Hanna said.
That's when a banging on the barn door startled the women for the second time tonight. They all exchanged glances before Spencer stood to answer.
When she opened the door, Toby stood outside in his officer's outfit looking worried.
"Spencer," he said. "Furey needs you down at the station."
"Why?" Spencer asked.
"They did another sweep of the crime scene and they found something," Toby revealed. "He thinks you might know what it is."
Spencer crossed her arms. "Why the hell would he think that?"
"Just... come." Toby looked inside and locked eyes with Alison, and then the rest of the women. "I think you all should."
Alison watched Spencer look back at them. She knew Toby could tell there was something up. Could they tell him what was going on?
"You guys don't have to come." Spencer grabbed her coat. "I'll tell everything once I get back."
"No," Aria said. "We're coming."
"Yeah," Hanna agreed. "You don't have to go alone."
They all piled into Spencer's car and made their way to the station. Alison was terrified at the thought of her mom's twin sister making an appearance in Rosewood, especially if there had been bad blood between them. What if Mary still had a grudge? And what if she wanted to take it out on Alison?
And now Spencer was getting called to the station to identify potential evidence like Alison had when Elliot and Charlotte had been found?
They made it and rushed inside. Furey looked surprised to see all five women together, but Alison watched him smile confidently. What was he so confident about?
Furey approached them. "What's with the party?"
"I was summoned," Spencer deadpanned.
"Yes," Furey answered. "But your friends will need to stay out here."
Spencer looked back at them and nodded. They would wait until she came back.
Toby lingered and Emily could tell he wanted to know why they were acting so strange.
"Toby," Alison addressed. "What did Furey find?"
Toby looked around. "Let's go back outside."
So they did, to avoid anyone overhearing this conversation.
"Before I say anything, I need to know why you five are still being targeted by Furey," Toby ordered.
Emily looked at her friends but didn't know what call to make. It wouldn't be safe to tell Toby. It would put him on -A's radar, and if this -A was anything like the past ones, telling him the truth was a bad idea. Plus, he was a cop.
But he was also a friend, and probably still cared a lot about Spencer.
"The night Charlotte and Elliot were murdered..." Hanna started. "We snuck into Radley and broke into Elliot's old hotel room."
"We found that giant hole in the closet and followed it out of Radley," Aria included.
"And then Hanna and Caleb erased The Radley footage to cover our tracks." Emily crossed her arms. "Because I told Furey we never went back to Radley after Alison called us."
Toby shook his head. "And would you have any idea why the backup drive for The Radley's security cameras went missing?"
The women looked at each other. Emily figured, if they had said this much...
"-A stole it," Alison revealed. "And is blackmailing us to find Charlotte and Elliot's killer."
The shock on Toby's face was clear. He hadn't heard that name in years. -A had wreaked havoc on all of them when they were kids, and Toby wasn't excluded considering he had been romantically involved with Spencer. He knew just as well as the other's what they were up against.
"But... Charlotte's dead," Toby said. "How could -A still be possible?"
"A different person," Emily answered. "A person that believes we're closer to Charlotte and Elliot's killer than the police are."
Toby placed his hands on his hips. "Furey had his team sweep the crime scene again today. I went along. They found a bracelet with the initials S. H." He paused to look around. "I know it's not Spencer's because it's way too big for her wrist and I know she hates loose bracelets, but it was too easy for Furey to assume it was hers."
Alison couldn't believe what she was hearing. They had found a bracelet with S. H. on it. But everyone here knew it wasn't Spencer's. They had been with her the night Charlotte and Elliot had been murdered. Plus, Spencer wouldn't be so stupid as to leave a chunk of evidence like that at a known crime scene. In a way, it seemed almost insulting to assume that of Spencer.
"You guys don't think..." Emily started. A bad thought swarmed her head. "... it's possible we're being framed?"
It wouldn't be the first time they had experienced something like this. Something very similar had happened to Alison years ago when everyone thought she had killed Mona. She had been arrested and her four friends had been too.
Come to find out Mona hadn't been dead at all, and Charlotte had kidnapped and tortured not only Mona, but Emily, Spencer, Aria and Hanna to.
Could history be repeating itself?
Toby leaned forward. "You think you're being framed for Charlotte and Elliot's murder?"
"It's either that or -A planted that bracelet to scare us," Alison included.
"Toby what do we do?" Hanna asked.
Toby on the other hand looked more worried than he had before they had told him the truth. He looked torn, which was a result of the women telling him the truth and hoping he wouldn't tell Furey. If he told, Spencer and the rest of them would be in a hell of a lot of trouble.
That's when Spencer exited the station with a scared look on her face.
"That bracelet is not mine," she claimed. "They said they're going to test it for DNA. Whoever put that bracelet there wants me to go down for this murder."
"Or wants to scare us," Emily included.
"So either we're being framed or tortured again," Spencer said. "Great."
Then all five of their phones rang out in the night. Emily felt herself shiver, but wasn't sure if it was the night wind or the fact that this text was from a blocked number.
Spencer opened her text first and read aloud: "See how easy it is for me to make a move? It's time for you to do the same.
-A."
