Chapter Twenty-Three: NightShape
"Edan."
Glory spoke before she opened her eyes.
She had no idea where she was. She thought she was back in the cabin with Edan. Everest was somewhere out in the woods, walking. She walked so often, she basically walked her life away.
A couple seconds before she opened her eyes she thought she was laid down beside Edan like she was that one time.
Glory turned on the bed she was on, a smile of her face ready to face Edan. She felt as though she hadn't seen him in weeks. Her heart fluttered at the thought of him.
She mumbled his name again, her smile fading when he didn't reply.
So she opened her eyes.
Nothing in the world could have prepared her for what she was seeing at that given moment. It took her a good minute for her to register where she was. And after she did finally recognize the grey walls and musky smell, she was crashed with disappointed.
Her heart rate sped up and she began to panic. What was she doing here? She was supposed to be with Edan. They were supposed to be in the woods somewhere. In the cabin hidden by trees. Laying on a mattress as she recovered from her flu. They were supposed to be together.
They were mates.
Glory felt it now more than she had ever before. A ache in her chest as the thoughts of losing him consumed her.
She needed to find him.
They were supposed to turn human together. Live on property owned by homo sapiens. They were supposed to get married. Maybe even have kids one day.
She was panicking.
She couldn't breath.
She couldn't breath.
Her vision got blurry and she tried to say Edan's name.
They were supposed to be together.
What was she doing back in NightShape.
A familiar pair of striking blue eyes helped her come back to reality. He put his hands in her shoulders and talked to her. Glory was clutching her own hand in front of her heart that was beating so fast that it hurt.
His calming voice helped a lot.
When she finally snapped to her senses she saw him for the first time in six months. With him this close to her she realized he wasn't nearly as perfect as she made him out to all along. He wasn't as attractive as he used to be. His eyes weren't as pretty as she remembered. His skin wasn't as flawless as she recalled. He just looked like another one of the guys.
He just looked - average.
Edan was so much more. Edan was so much more than Avery. She wanted Edan.
She realized she was crying. Salty tears left trails all the way down to her jaw. Cheeks puffy. She wiped them away quickly with the back of her hand.
Avery stood up when he noticed she was going to be okay.
He looked completely different now - but still exactly the same. She was looking at him from a new perspective. She was looking at him as a female who found her mate.
While he did look different. He was just as tall as she remembered. All wolf males were six foot two as their average height. Avery stood six feet and seven inches tall, just two inches taller than Edan.
His eyes didn't compare to Edan's. His eyelashes were longer, darker and thicker while Edan's were more on the blonde side. Edan's eye's were still more breathtaking.
"What am I doing here?" She looked around, frantic.
"You were brought here," Avery answered honestly.
"By who?" She swallowed, she didn't remember the time she woke up as Edan carried here to NightShape, but she remembered his scent. It lingered in her nose even two weeks later
"By a man," Avery crossed his arms over his chest.
Glory's eyes traveled down her body, tubes were stuck in her arms. A red liquid - blood - was flowing into her body.
"What is this?" She whispered, watching the blood enter her veins. Feeling it the over her body. Her skin began to crawl and she felt the need to scratch it open
"Blood transfusion."
"Who's blood is it?" Glory smelled who's blood it was. Her sisters. Tabitha.
Avery didn't answer, he knew that she could smell it. "Your mother would like to see you. Is that okay?"
Glory's eyes snapped towards Avery - her mother - oh how she dreaded to see her. Amanda was going to kill her - after she gave her a lecture about the responsibilities of being in this position and how much she disappointed her family and pack. However, it was better for her mother to see her now than later when she was better. At least now Amanda might feel a little sorry for what her daughter was going through and might not be as harsh.
"Why am I having a blood transfusion?" She ignored Avery's question. She wanted to think if she wanted to see her mother now.
"Your wolf was dying, you needed a booster to wake it up. Your mother's waiting outside, if you want to see her. Call for her, she will hear you."
Glory sighed as Avery turned to leave. Speaking quickly, "send her in."
She immediately regretted her choice, she wanted to ask Avery about Edan. A stabbing pain of worry hit her.
It was quickly wisked away when her mother barged into the room. Her big eyes full of concern and happiness as she looked her daughter in the eyes for the first time in six months.
"Glores," she spoke in a soft tone.
The nickname didn't even bother her.
Glory gave her an attempt of a weak smile. "Hi."
Her mother stood frozen for another couple moments, she rushed over to her daughter and pulled her into a bone crushing hug.
"Mom," Glory wheezed. "I. Can't. Breath."
Amand laughed, pulling away, a sad smile danced onto her lips. She put her hand on Glory's cheek, "Where have you been? My sweet wolf." Tears sprung into her eyes for millionth time since her daughter got back. She thought she had lost Glory forever. Yet here she was in the flesh, making a beautiful recovery.
"Mom. . ." A lump was caught in Glory's throat. She hadn't expected this reaction.
Tears ran down Amanda's cheeks now. Glory felt waves of emotions swallow her body as she stared onto her mother's glittering bronze eyes.
She was a horrible daughter.
"I missed you so much sweetheart."
Hey voice cracked with emotion. Sadness.
"I'm sorry I couldn't make you happy. I'm sorry I don't have control to make you happy."
Guilty.
"I want you to be happy."
Foolish.
"Don't you ever - leave like that again."
Relief.
"Promise me. Promise me you'll never leave again," Amanda gripped Glory hands, staring deeply into her eyes.
Glory nodded her head, trying to find the right words, her throat clogged. "Yes," she manged to croak. "I'll never leave again."
Amanda once again hugged Glory, a huge amount of weight disappeared from her shoulders.
"I love you, Glores. I know I may not always make it obvious, but I love you sweetheart. Never forget that."
"I love you too," Glory murmured into her mother's neck, holding Amanda tight like she was holding Glory
That wasn't the most shocking thing that happened that day.
Her sister showed up and broke down in tears, but to stuck up to hug her sister. So Glory had to pull her in for a hug and Tabitha didn't let go for at least an hour. After she pulled away she didn't leave Glory's side until Amanda showed up again, talking about utter nonsense and catching her up to the lastest gossip in the packs.
There was still a heavy feeling on her chest whenever she thought about Edan. However, having people around her helped her cope with it. If she was alone she might break down and lose it.
Then her father showed up. Glory braced herself for the lecture, for the words of disappointment. She was prepared to feel like crap after the two days of nonstop support.
But no.
Her father pulled her into for a tight warming hug. No words, no nothing. He just hugged her. That hug held so many feeling Glory started to cry.
It was the first time her father hugged her since she was four years old.
She than realized how stupid she was. All this time she thought her family hated her, now here they were, showing her an endless amount of support and love.
While she did appreciate it, a whole lot. She didn't want to marry Avery. Especially now with Edan in the picture.
The alpha himself stood in front of Glory and delivered her heart shattering news.
She was to have the mating ceremony by the next full moon. Before she does something outrageous like leave the pack again.
She had no idea what she was going to do.
