Chapter Seventeen: Autumn Air

The unofficial cover of the second book^^^

Glory and Edan had slept in the same space. He asked her to stay a little longer, she never expected to fall asleep with him. Not that she really minded. She wanted this - before she told him - she wanted to spend some more time with him.

Glory trusted Edan, but there was still this nagging inside her that was warning her to wait it out so he'd tell his story. Even though it was predictable it still would be reassurance that he trusted her - even a little.

When Glory's eyes opened she was confused as to where she was - until she felt Edan's hand curled around her waist. Pulling her close to him. His face was stuffed into her hair - which couldn't have been that pleasant. Maybe it was - who knows - maybe it smelled the same way to him as Edan's hair smelled to Glory.

She didn't want to move, a distasteful to wake him. She also didn't want to move because his heartbeat was vibrating through her own body, her back touching his chest. She couldn't imagine it - not being a wolf - not hearing Edan's heartbeat - not feeling his heartbeat.

His heartbeat was a song that would never get old.

She felt him shift around behind her, awakening. She smiled, biting her lip turning her head back to look him in the eyes.

"Good morning," she brushed the hair out of his eyes, her hand locked in place.

"G' morning," his hushed tone matched hers.

"How are you feeling," he looked better. His skin wasn't fever-stricken like yesterday and his eyes were clearer.

"Better."

Her hand loosened it's hold in his hair, her thumb running down his cheeks, cupping his jaw with a patient pace. Her thumb brushed back and forth on his cheek and they just stared at each other. His head moved and her thumb touched his lips. Scorching his skin - slowly dragging back and forth on the soft flesh. Her eyes drifted to the plumpness of his mouth while he intently watched her - the way her expressions formed on her features - what her next move was. Mostly focusing on her eyes.

He knew she wasn't going to make the first move - not unless she knew he was okay with it. Maybe she would have if she was more experienced in the area.

She's kissed before - Avery. Five times to be exact. It wasn't exactly the most pleasant experiences. Especially since they lacked chemistry and emotional connection. This all happened before he started sneaking into her bedroom window at night. So it was quite a while ago. Glory never got why some females did it willingly - it wasn't fun. It was wet, warm and felt like nothing
The only reason she did it with Avery was because of show. So the pack members would see their relationship was running smoothly. It all stopped when Avery snuck into her window at night. She wasn't disappointed.

This was all weird to Glory. The desire to kiss another male after her horrible experiences back home.

Edan wasn't going to make the first move either - simply because he had never kissed another female before. He would if Glory would push it too far off and it would take her to long to make the first move - yes - he would do it. He would without a second thought make the first move.

"Guys!" Everest's voice rung through their minds.

Glory closed her eyes - resting her chin on his head. Annoyed. He just dismissed his sister and tightened his grip on Glory's waist, his head cuddled in her chest. Listening to the soft rhythm of her heartbeat.

They heard her footsteps in the cabin but weren't bothered to move.

"Guys what - " she stopped as soon as she saw them, moulded against each other. Her eyes widened and her mouth made an o shape. "Bad time?"

Glory stayed silent and Edan mumbled a quiet "Yes."

"I was just going to ask if you were well enough to hunt and if you'd both like to come with. But. . . There's some leftover deer outside and you know where the tea is. I'm going for a walk." She left without a second look - confused how those two grew so close overnight.

"Everest is a good sister."

He chuckled, his warm breath touching her bare skin by her collarbone. "If you say so."

She removed her chin from head his head, sitting on her feet. Looking him in the eyes when she talked - like she always did. "Are you hungry?"

He shook his head, kindly denying her offer.

"Tea?"

"I think you already know the answer."

"Is there anything you want?"

"I could use some fresh air."

He let her wear his hoodie - she denied his offer. She had her wolf to heat her, he didn't. The cold autumn air may not be good for him. Especially when he just came out of the flu he might still have symptoms of.

His bare feet crunched the dead leaves beneath his weight.

"Edan, have you thought about what you're going to do after you turn human?"

He sighed, "yeah. A little bit I guess." There was silence again, "Everest and had worked out all the details before you came."

She eyes snapped to him, "did I ruin your plans?"

"No," he reassured her. "It's still the same it just depends what you wanna do. After I turn human - I obviously can't stay here - well I could. But the rogues would rip me apart. If you wanna stay here you can stay, I wouldn't encourage it."

"I wanna go with you," she spoke hesitantly. She wasn't sure exactly where they stood in their relationship. But they were definitely above friendship, and if she was reading the signs right he agreed that they were mates.

He smiled, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. He pressed a kiss to her hair, ''I want to go with you too."

Warmth seeped through her body. She was happy - really happy.

"After I turn human, I go to the human land. You and Everest will stay here, complete your phases. It might take you another year possibly two. Everest will likely have to stay here for another three years or so, hopefully, two."

"So I'm going to have to be here without you for almost two years?" She groaned.

He chuckled light-heartedly, "it's not that long when you think about it."

"Long enough," there was silence before she asked her next question. "Edan, why doesn't Everest have a scent?"

Glory hadn't really noticed until last week when they went hunting together. It was a natural for scents to just linger everywhere, which naturally made Glory dismiss them until she needed them or until she looked for them. When they were hunting Glory couldn't find her scent anywhere. At first, it was because she thought she was loosing her enhanced abilities, but she smelled everything else. She smelled all the animals, the plants, she smelled Edan.

"Honesty, I have no idea. The only time you can smell her is after she has shifted, or your smelling is somehow stronger than normal wolves."

"Oh, I just thought she may have used a scent hiding mist. Like the one I used to have."

"No, it'd just one of the things that makes her that much stronger than me."

"Edan," her heart sped up, beating rapidly. She wanted to tell him. It was her chance now. She was comfortable, they were alone, she wouldn't have a better chance than this.

"Yes."

She didn't reply for a couple seconds, too afraid to open her mouth. Not knowing what to say and how to form her words.

"They're looking for me. Everywhere." Her mouth dried out; she didn't want to tell him. She was afraid. "I left because I was supposed to be the next Luna," she slowly shifted her eyes to look for any sort of rejection on his face.

He remained calm and collected, she had no idea what was running through his mind.

However inside he was relieved. His suspicion was only conferred. Even though it wasn't good for Edan and Everest to have her here, it was better than having her be a fighter. Because fighters are unpredictable and never to be trusted, you don't know if they're your friend or if they're your enemy.

The luna next in line, however - she was sacred. She was taught all the techniques an Alpha Female should have - making her almost has heavily trained as a fighter. They will not rest until they have her - until the unmated male is marked and officially named alpha. In some cases - depending on how valuable the beta's daughter is, they will still be looked for even after the alpha has mated with another.

"I didn't want to marry him. I didn't love him. He was a nice guy - but - I couldn't live like that," her voice was shaky. She was finally telling him, he tightened the hold on her shoulders as they continued to walk forward. Letting her know that it was okay to continue.

"Where were you from? Maybe I know him."

"NightShape."

"NightShape?" He eyebrows shot up, his grip simultaneously losing itself on her shoulders.

She looked at him from under her eyelashes, "Yes. Have you been there?"

"Yeah. I mean, yes we went there all the time when we were younger. Your last name might happen to be Ryan?"

A smile itched onto her lips, she bit it back. He saw her before, and he remembered her name. "Yes."

"So you were supposed to mate with Avery. Avery Stone?"

"Yeah."

"Okay, this is all too weird for me," Edan didn't sound very impressed.

She chuckled, glad that his reaction wasn't too over the top. She wanted to ask him where he was from but she didn't want to change the mood. He didn't like talking about it, said there were too many bad memories. Glory understood and she didn't ask again. But now that she knows that he used to visit sometimes while he was younger she could cross a whole lot of pack names off the list. NightShape didn't exactly get along with everyone. If anything it was a natural instinct for the fellow wolves to hate the NightShapers because of their high ranking. It was natural to assume that they had their noses in their asses and got everything handed to them on a golden platter.

Once upon a time, they were the strongest that was but got run over by the Cresent Beam Pack. Their strongest allies. Which no one saw coming, but that's a story for another day.

"I have a sister, who in time can take my place."

"What's her name?"

"Tabitha, she's a one in million. She was probably jumping up and down when she found out I left," Glory's hand ran up and down her upper arm, where her pack tattoo used to be.

"Don't say that. I'm sure that's not true."

"We've never really gotten along - and besides, she had a major crush on Avery. Even if she was disappointed that I left, she could be with Avery for the rest of her life."

Edan dramatically rolled his eyes, "females."

Glory elbowed him in the ribs. Smiling up at him cheekily, "now you have to tell me why you didn't like me."

He looked down at her, "I'm assuming you already have a theory?"

"Well. Yeah. A stranger comes into your home, you obviously don't trust them. Unless you're stupid. But - I'm not forgiving you that easily. You still could've been nice to me."

"The thing is, I usually am nice. But for some odd reason, Everest welcomed you in with open arms, which was weird. One of us had to be mean to you."

"Okay," she simply replied. His answer made sense, but she wanted to know more. "Tell me about Everest. How is she usually."

"Everest. . ." He blew air out of his mouth, sighing. "Everest. The thing that gets to me the most about Everest is that she's just like her grandmother."

Glory snickered quietly, "yeah, she told me the other day that everyone says she's just like her."

"Did she deny it?"

"Yup."

"Sounds like her," he shook his head disapprovingly. "My grandmother was a cold-hearted female. Anyways everyone thought she was. She was always nice to me. Just like Everest - I'm the only person she has ever trusted. Ever thought about trusting. If she could help it she'd let no one step out of line. She was nice to no one. She cared only for herself. She didn't care if one of our pack members were ripped to pieces. One time she could've easily stopped an attack on an innocent - she let that rogue tear that male apart. Anyway. . . It wasn't that I didn't like you - it was the mistrust I had of you and the feud I had with my sister."

Glory was puzzled, the situation confused her almost as much as it did Edan. It seemed unbelievable that Everest could be heartless. She was a sweetheart when it came to Glory. "What do you think happened to her - that made her change like that?"

Edan ran his fingers through his hair tiredly, "I have no idea. "

"But you have your suspicions?"

"Yeah."

"You can tell me," she realized she may have sounded too eager. Which she was, she wanted to know everything about them. They were practically family now. "If you want."

"I think she met someone."

Glory cocked an eyebrow at him.

"About two years ago - Everest always liked to go for walks - she still does. But those days she was gone for two days sometimes. I figured she was sneaking into packs or something - like she used to. Stealing supplies. When she showed up empty handed - I didn't think much of it. Things became really weird, she started to follow a schedule. Her behaviour lasted for six months - at the least. We didn't really get along those six months, we argued a lot. I tried to figure out where she was going. I'm still bitter about it. Then suddenly, boom, she stops going for walks. Completely done. It wasn't until she recently started again. But she hasn't been the same since then. She's not as chatty. Not as gutsy. We don't talk as much as we used too. Then you showed up and she saved your life. That was really weird. The Everest I know would've let the rogue tear you apart."

Her brown eyes peered into his as she stopped walking. The green mesmerizing as ever. "Well, I'm glad she didn't."

"Me neither."

She reached up into his long blonde locks and pulled him down. Standing on her toes, she slowly leaned in and pressed the along-awaited kiss to his lips.

Yalllllll
Finally.

Honestly, I went into this chapter completely dismissing the kiss scene. It was decided last second.

Also, I just wanted to ask if this book too predictable?

Feel like you guys know everything that is gonna happen?

What do you think? Comments? Predictions? Theories? Josh Dun?

Somewhat edited.
