Chapter 6: Escape
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“Relax,” Wei Lan said, with a calm, steady mind,
“We can still think of something, let’s not fall behind.”
“Fine,” Vincent huffed, “since the mastermind’s gone,
I’ll do the planning now—let’s carry this on.”

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“We’ll scatter the ornaments within the library’s halls,
While the librarian’s busy, lost in the trees’ calls.
It’s the perfect time, and the last place they’ll look,
Let’s move quickly, before we’re all caught in the nook!”

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

Wei Lan shook her head, her face full of concern,
“No way I’m going back to that police station, I’ll learn!
They’re on high alert, watching every move,
It’s too risky, Vincent—we’d just be in a groove.”

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“I can go. The police trust me,” Vincent said with a grin,
“Don’t get into trouble,” Wei Lan warned with a wince.
“I’ll try,” Vincent replied, with a wink in his eye,
As he set off on his task, hoping not to be caught in a lie.

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“Alright, it’s done,” Vincent said after a pause,
“The ornaments are hidden, no trace or cause.
But I still think we should just return the tree,
It’s getting too dangerous, don’t you agree?”
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“Holly, don’t steal them!” Vincent called with some cheer.
“No, I’ve got to stay low, keep my head clear,”
Holly replied from the attic, voice soft and small,
“I’m hiding from the danger, that’s all.”
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“Well, well, even the eldritch horror’s being careful,”
Vincent chuckled, “Now that’s just awful!”
“I don’t want to go to jail,” Holly sighed with a tone,
Fair enough, thought Vincent, not wanting to moan.
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“I’ll add it to my notes,” Vincent said with a grin,
“Even eldritch horrors are afraid of prison.”

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“How was it?” Wei Lan asked with a sharp look,
“They won’t find it,” Vincent replied, “I’ve got them hooked.
And I left them a surprise, just a little fun twist,
Let’s see if they can solve this little gift.”

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

Meanwhile, Sean’s orders cut through the night air,
“Start sweeping the lake, with caution and care.
Set up the lights, keep an eye for a trace,
Footprints or items, or anything out of place.”

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“Report if you find anything, and move fast,”
For the mystery of the Bandits was closing at last.
The forest stood silent, but the silence was wrong—
Too heavy, too still, like a quiet song.

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

Then it began.

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

Faint beams of light sliced through the trees,
Their glow dancing as they moved with the breeze.
The searchers were near, their voices a hum,
The police were close, and they’d soon be undone.
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

A trail of clues had led them to this place,
The edge of the forest—dangerous space.
Boots crunched on snow, a countdown to fear,
As they drew nearer, the Bandits’ fate was clear.
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“We need to get out of here!” Vincent cried,
His voice full of panic as his plans untied.
“Wei Lan was right! This is a code red!”
His words pierced the night, filling all with dread.
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“I’ll distract them,” Vincent shouted, his voice full of flair,
“I’ll sneak in their group and act unaware.
I’ll claim I saw something, point them away,
While you all grab what you can and run far away!”
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

And as the search drew closer, with tension so tight,
The Bandits prepared for their final flight.
Would they escape, or would their luck run out?
The answer, unknown, in the night’s looming shout.
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“I gotta go deeper into the forest!” Molly shouted,
Down from the attic, her voice filled with doubt.
Rachel, meanwhile, was fast asleep,
Unaware of the danger, in her peaceful keep.
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“I saw this coming the moment the police arrived,”
Wei Lan spoke calmly, her plan well-devised.
“I’ve been making hideouts, places to stay,
We can slip away as the coast clears our way.”

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“While the police get busy with the main lair’s search,
We’ll sneak out from the library, a quiet little perch.
When they’re all focused, not knowing what’s near,
We’ll vanish into the night, without any fear.”

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

With plans in motion and tension so high,
The Bandits prepared for their final goodbye.
Would they slip away, unseen and unheard?
Or would the police catch them, like a dangerous bird?

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

The frosty mastermind must make a decision,
The police and volunteers closing in with precision.
What will you do? What’s the next move?
A choice to make, a life to prove.

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“I’m thinking of sneaking,” said Sakura with care,
Her voice cold as ice, but sharp as the air.
And so, deeper into the forest they go,
With each step, the snow crunching below.

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

The decision is made, the lair’s no longer safe,
With every second, the danger grows late.
The sound of voices and flashlights near,
Chasing the Bandits, feeding their fear.
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

Quiet as shadows, they move through the night,
The forest their cover, avoiding the light.
The police seem to miss them, for now, it’s true,
But relief is short, as trouble brews.
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

A rustle in the bushes, a crack in the dark,
A voice calls out, and it leaves its mark:
“Got you!”
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

It’s not the police, but something worse still,
An overzealous volunteer, against orders, against will.
His eyes widen as he realizes his fate,
Gripping his phone, deciding your fate.
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

The group stands frozen, silent and still,
The volunteer hesitates, torn against his will.
He’s seen your faces, and you know what comes next—
A choice hangs in the air, what will he text?
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

For a moment, no one moves, tense and still,
Then, the volunteer’s hand moves with a chill.
His fingers fumble, trembling with dread,
The phone in his grip, a call to be said.
*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

“Hit him, Holly!” Vincent commands with haste,
The pan in her hand, a weapon to taste.
Holly, with speed, swung the pan with a clang,
The volunteer’s phone hit the snow with a bang.

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥ .

For a moment, it seems, the danger’s been averted,
But the volunteer’s eyes, filled with fury, are sure to be asserted.
He regains his stance, his face red with rage,
No longer afraid—he’s now on the stage.

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

With a roar, he charges, his anger in tow,
Towards the tree, with a fierce, fiery glow.
“Christmas is about giving, not stealing!” he cries,
His voice rings out, a defiant surprise.

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

The group’s thrown into chaos, the air sharp with fear,
The volunteer’s rage is louder, drawing near.
Thrashing, yelling, hoping to draw attention,
To the police and volunteers, seeking intervention.

*̣̥☆·͙̥‧❄•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥˟͙☃˟͙‧̩̥·‧•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥•̥̩̥͙‧·‧̩̥❄‧·͙̥̣☆*̣̥

The plan is unraveling, the tension high,
The group must move quickly or say goodbye.
With every second, the stakes grow worse,
The volunteer’s fury is a dangerous curse.
