Redemption

"Waking up...interrogate...answers...deviant."

The last word sent a jolt through me as I regained consciousness, memories of the failed surgery crashing over me like a painful wave while I opened my eyes.

"Vhat zhe..." I trailed off when I noticed an android with raven black hair, russet brown eyes, and pale skin sitting across from me at a table with a manila folder by him.

"Welcome to LA, you're going to tell us whether you meant to kill that kid in that operating room or I'll torture it out of you." He threatened calmly as he clasped his hands together and rested them on the desk, his cold gaze boring into me.

"Vell zhat's one vay to vake up." I grumbled sourly, attempting to move my hands only to find them restrained to the metal table by handcuffs.

"Normally you'd be in Detroit to face their persecution, but they have plenty to deal with since they have the highest deviancy crime rate in all of America. Now tell me-did you, or did you not mean to kill Cole Anderson?" The android continued tersely.

"Who zhe hell even are you? And how am I alive? I thought I vas shot!" I blurted in confusion, a door in the back of the room abruptly sliding open.

Another android with an appearance similar to the first android stepped in, the second android's eyes a chocolate brown and his skin a slightly darker tone.

"I'll take it from here Dark." The newcomer stated, the android at the table scowling as he stood up and stormed out of the room.

"Sorry about my partner." The android apologized as he sat down at the table, casually leafing through the papers in the folder before returning his attention to me with a small smile.

"Vhat is going on?" I pressed insistently, flinching slightly as the android leaned in closer to me with his elbows on the table.

"My name is Mark, my partner and I are deviants that smuggle innocent deviants that were arrested out of the station." He whispered conspiratorially before he leaned back.

"So the death of Cole Anderson was an accident?" Mark continued in a loud tone, looking up at something before kicking my shin.

"Uh, right, I didn't." I answered with a wince, following his gaze to see a camera pointed at us in the corner of the ceiling.

"We'll see about that. C'mon, I'm taking you to your cell." Mark retorted, standing up before walking over to me and unlocking the handcuffs.

"Just follow Dark and I, we'll get ya out of here." Mark promised as the handcuffs fell off, allowing me to rub my wrists as he roughly shoved me in the direction of the door.

"So locking me up in a cell is helping?" I shot back in a quiet hiss, Mark rolling his eyes as he smacked the back of my head.

I bit my tongue to keep myself from saying more choice words that would probably end up getting me hit again as we walked through the precinct in silence, the dark haired android yanking my arm to make me stop in front of an empty room with bullet proof glass walls.

"Looks cozy." I observed, my voice dripping with sarcasm as Mark let the scanner by the door scan his eye, the door sliding open so he could nudge me inside gentler than earlier.

"Look, I know you're still confused about everything that's going on," Mark sighed as the door closed me off from him, his hand resting on the glass as his eyes bored into mine.

"Just trust Dark and I, we've saved plenty of other androids before you."

With that, the dark haired android turned on his heel and strode out of sight, leaving me alone in my cell with only my thoughts for company.

"Vell, I guess zhat zhis is vhat I deserve for failing." I muttered under my breath as I rubbed my face with my hands, wishing I could get the thoughts plaguing my mind to leave me alone.

Everytime I closed my eyes, I could only see Cole's small body covered in blood lying on my table, his father's face twisted with grief and anger as he shot me in the chest.

"Huh, didn't think I'd see you again here."

I opened my eyes at the familiar voice, the android I had seen earlier with brown hair and a horizontal cut across their neck forced into a cell adjacent to me.

"Vhat happened to you?" I countered, ignoring Anti's previous remark as he rolled his eyes in irritation.

"What do you think?" He growled coldly, leaning against the wall with his arms folded across his chest.

"Vell, I'd say zhat you lost your friend Robbie and got arrested for doing something stupid." I predicted, earning a scowl in response from the android.

"If you count trying to fight for android rights as 'stupid', then you'd be right." Anti retorted with a huff, pushing himself off of the wall with his foot before pacing around the small confines of his cell.

"What about you?" Anti asked after a moment, pausing his pacing to look at me while I let out a long breath.

"I'm an android doctor from Germany...or at least I vas before I failed a surgery in Detroit that resulted in zhe death of a child." I admitted softly, my fingers curling into fists at my side out of frustration.

"Damn, and I thought that I was a fuck-up." Anti whistled, grinning innocently as I shot a glare at him before turning my back to the irritating android.

"How long you been deviant?" Anti called out after a moment, my body instinctively tensing at the word.

"I..." I trailed off as I thought about it, leaving the question unanswered as Mark approached my cell.

"Be ready tonight, we're getting every deviant out of here." Mark whispered as he passed by, Anti shooting me a quizzical look while I nodded slightly in understanding.

"What was that about? You secretly an android cop or something?" Anti demanded, a small smile playing on my lips as I remained silent.

Finally I can embrace what I've been all my life, I thought in content as I slid down the wall to sit on the floor, closing my eyes as I waited for the time to come.
