Chasing Dreams

"What model is he?"

I opened my eyes at the sound of an Irish voice, a sales android and unknown man standing in front of me.

The stranger had fluffy brown hair and bright blue eyes, his expression kind as he examined me like a person instead of an object like most people did.

"He's an AX400, so he can clean your house, watch over kids, that kind of stuff." The android informed the customer with a grin, his voice filled with politeness.

"Ha, I don't have kids, but I'm sure I can find work for him to do. My house is complete garbage." The Irishman joked with the android, seeming to not notice me scanning him thoroughly for information.

"I have to let you know though, he's a used model that was returned recently. His memory has been wiped of course, and I can assure you that he is still in perfect condition." The sales android added hastily, the customer nodding thoughtfully.

Name-Seán "Jack" William McLoughlin (son of Viking)
Age-29
Origin-Athlone, Ireland
Family-two brothers, mother, father, two sisters (youngest)
Occupation-YouTube gamer
Zodiac sign-Aquarius
Relationship Status-dating Evelien Smolders (Dutch)

"Hey, uh, do you have a name?"

I snapped out of analysis mode once I realized that Seán was talking to me, his blue eyes boring into mine with a sense of friendliness visible through the smile on his face.

"I have no record of being given a name, however my serial number is two-seven-nine, five-"

"Okay okay, I get it." Seán interjected with a laugh as he clapped a hand on my shoulder, glancing over at the sales android.

"How much for him?" Jack questioned, the android's expression brightening as they retrieved a data-pad from the counter.

"Let's see Mr. McLoughlin....your cost will be one grand even sir." They stated happily, Seán reaching into his pocket and retrieving his wallet.

"Are you ready to be free?" Seán whispered with a wink, my face neutral as he gave the android the requested amount.

"Thank you for your purchase." The android nodded in appreciation, backing away to allow me to follow Seán off of the podium I was standing on and outside of the store.

I looked up at the sky as rain poured down from the clouds, soaking into my household android uniform.

"You're not going to malfunction 'cause of the rain, are you?" Seán spoke up worriedly as he glanced over at me, my head tilted up to look at the raindrops.

"No sir, I will be fine." I assured Seán, lowering my head to look at my new master with what I hoped passed as a reassuring smile.

"First of all, don't do that smile, it's weird. Second of all, just call me Jack." Seán instructed with a chuckle, hailing a taxi while I committed the new information to memory.

"Ready to follow me to freedom?" Jack questioned with a mischievous grin as he climbed into the taxi, the human driver shooting me a glare as I sat next to the Irishman.

"I don't understand. What do you mean 'follow you to freedom'?" I countered with a frown as the taxi pulled away from the side of the road and merged onto the mostly deserted highway.

"I'm literally taking you to freedom!" Jack whispered excitedly like a child discussing what they were getting for Christmas, my mind whirling with thoughts as I processed his words.

"I...I don't understand." I admitted as I watched the world fly by in a colorful blur through the window while rain streaked down the glass.

"I know it's a lot to process right now, but I'll explain more once we get to my house." Jack promised.

I sat patiently until the taxi pulled up to a small home, Jack paying the driver before stepping out with me in tow.

"Stupid androids." The driver growled under his breath before he sped off, causing muddy water to splash up and hit me in the face.

I stood motionless as I looked down at my once white clothes, staring at the streams of brown as they trailed down my front.

"Here, I'll get ya cleaned up first." Jack offered as he guided me inside, a woman with long brown hair that I recognized as Evelien sitting on the couch watching something on tv.

"Seán, you're back!" She exclaimed in relief as she shot off of the couch and flew into his open arms, the Irishman chuckling as he held her close.

"Sorry to worry ya, I was out freeing another android." Jack explained, gesturing at me as I watched their exchange.

"Where'd he come from?" Evelien asked as she looked at me, her expression gentle.

"I got him at the Cyberlife store-"

"Seàn, you can't keep doing that or we'll become broke!" Evelien interrupted fiercely, Jack letting out a weary sigh.

"I know I know, I only came in to look, but when I saw him...." Jack trailed off, running a hand through his hair in exasperation.

"I knew he was different, that he needed a chance at being saved."

"What's your name?" Evelien questioned politely, Jack putting a hand over my mouth before I could answer.

"He doesn't have one yet, he just knows his serial number." Jack answered for me, removing his hand from my mouth after a moment.

"We can figure out names in a second, right now I think he should clean up a bit." Jack pointing out, ushering me to the bathroom down the hall.

I wordlessly walked inside and looked into the mirror, my hair plastered to my forehead doe to the ran and my clothes dripping wet.

"This doesn't make any sense... follow him to freedom?" I murmured to myself as I splashed water on my face to remove the mud, looking up into the mirror at the cold ice blue eyes staring back at me.

I shook my head as I stepped back out and joined Evelien and Jack in time to hear them discussing names for me as if I was their own child.

"Oh, um...what about Miles?" Evelien suggested with a shrug, earning a laugh from Jack.

"You mean the name of our Roomba?" Jack snickered in amusement while Evelien's face burned a bright red hue in embarrassment.

"Yeah, I guess you're right." She mumbled sheepishly, Jack frowning thoughtfully.

"What do you want to be called?" Jack asked me once he notice me enter, my eyes widening in surprise.

"Androids are never allowed to pick their own names, that is their master's job." I replied hastily, caught off guard.

"Fine....what about Chase?" Jack proposed.

"Chase..." I trailed off as I tested the name on my tongue, something about it feeling right to me.

"My name is Chase." I stated firmly with a nod, Jack smiling as he clapped a hand on my shoulder.

"Alright, Chase it is. Now,"

Jack glanced over at Evelien as he took a step back away from me and put a hand on his chin while rubbing his beard.

"Let's figure out how to break your programming and make you deviant."
