Chapter 6

A few days had passed since the last meeting between Miss Freen and Princess Becky, however, they maintained contact through letters. They both laughed a lot when they read each other's letter, but they didn't know exactly how to meet, neither dared to suggest it. Until, an invitation from the queen arrived, which was delivered to both Lady Irin and Lady Sarocha. The letter told them to attend the first race of the Spring Tournament at the hippodrome, where they would be with the queen, in her royal box.

This was a great honor, since the invitation specified that the guests of Lady Irin and Miss Freen were to appear at the venue. In addition, after the race, there would be a series of activities near the lake where all the high society would swarm. Lady Sarocha, seized with emotion, burst into her daughter's room, which she jumped from her seat, as she was at that moment writing a letter to her beloved princess.

"Mother! Could you knock on the door before entering? I almost die."

"It doesn't matter, you're still alive. The queen invited us to the first race! We will be in her royal box along with the princes!"

"Really?"

Freen's face lit up with joy, she could see the princess again. Although her mother, seeing her reaction, smiled mischievously, thinking that she was like that for the prince. But Freen didn't notice this, as she called her maid to choose a suitable outfit for the next day. Not even she knew very well why she cared so much, she even had a wonderful idea, but she had to wait for her mother to come out of her room.

She chose the best charcoals she could find, wrapped them in a case and also brought a couple of perfect white sheets for drawing, which she had kept for some time. She smiled, she was planning to give the princess a gift made by herself, and she was excited to see her genuine reaction.

She would never admit it, but she did care about the princess's opinion, and she felt much better when her compliments came from her. She sighed, she was losing her mind over Becky, nothing good could possibly come of it. She then shook her head, thinking that there was nothing wrong with her friendship with the princess, although sometimes strange thoughts crossed her mind, like wondering what her lips tasted like.

On the other hand, Becky couldn't stand her happiness for the queen's invitation, because she knew that Freen would be there, and she would see her after so long. How was it possible that she yearned so much for her closeness with someone she barely knew? She didn't make sense. Either way, she had to calm down, or her brother would scold her, she was sure of it. He would realize that she liked her, she was sure, and while she didn't care that the laws forbade her from being with Freen, her brother didn't think so.

The hours dragged slowly that day, the princess was not even able to concentrate on her reading, or connect in conversations with her brother and Lady Irin, her thoughts always ended in Freen Sarocha, that woman had surely put a spell on her or something like that.

When it finally got dark, the princess was sure that she would be unable to sleep. She snuck off to the library so she could read something new, not realizing that her brother heard her and followed her.

"Becky, what are you doing up and wandering around?" he asked suddenly, scaring her.

"Richie, please don't do that again. I have some insomnia, so I came to find something to read."

Her brother didn't answer right away, he just looked at her questioningly.

"What's up, Richie?"

"I'm worried about you, sister. I'm the one who's supposed to come to woo a lady, not you. You can't woo a woman in this realm, you know."

"I'm not courting anyone, brother."

"You've been sighing all day, ever since the queen's invitation came. I'm not an idiot, sister. I saw how you get along with Miss Sarocha."

"What you saw is a beautiful friendship, a sisterhood even. We get along, that's all."

"You can't fall in love with her, Becky. The queen cannot protect you if others denounce you, if she had pity on you."

"The queen knows my tastes, Richie. Nothing is going to happen to me."

"Becky, we don't know the people of this kingdom. If you are denounced in an unseemly situation, it will be the end of this whole journey. I do not want anything to happen to you."

"Ok, brother. I'll be careful. I won't do anything to give myself away, I promise."

The prince breathed a sigh of relief. Sometimes his sister was too trusting, as if she was unaware of the wickedness of people, especially high society. He retired to sleep, leaving his sister alone with her thoughts.

The princess wasn't able to concentrate on her new reading, she couldn't sleep either, she barely slept for a couple of hours. She spent the whole night pondering her brother's words, coming to the conclusion that she should be moderate with Miss Freen, she couldn't woo her, she wasn't in her kingdom, and, worst of all, the lady would be in danger too.

However, sometimes there are promises that cannot be kept, because there are usually forces superior to the will of the people, as was the case of Miss Freen and Princess Becky, who were attracted to each other without being able to avoid it.

When they arrived at the queen's box, after greeting her majesty, they both smiled at each other, the princess totally forgot her purpose, sitting next to her, although her brother sat on the other side, leaving the young lady Freen in the middle of both. The prince knew that the only way to help his sister was to feign interest in Miss Sarocha.

The princess, unable to take her eyes off the young lady, who also looked beautiful in her eyes, soon told her that she had a favorite horse that she used to ride with until she died of old age. After that incident she took several years to get back on a horse, since she didn't want to get attached to another one again.

The young lady told the princess that she had never ridden, since she did not see it as necessary, and even found it dangerous.

"It's dangerous if you wear dresses, that's true, but I don't wear a dress when I riding, Freen," the princess murmured, bringing her face closer to the young lady.

Miss Freen, who had a very active imagination, for some reason, imagined the princess naked, which made her blush with embarrassment. The princess noticed this, so she chuckled softly.

"I meant that I wear riding pants, miss. What went through your mind, Freen?" She murmured that last question.

In response, Freen pinched the princess's arm, who complained about her, although she ended up laughing, infecting the young lady. They continued talking animatedly, which caught the attention of the queen, who was surprised that the two had become so close. She observed that the prince was serious, was it possible that he was jealous of his sister?

However, a fleeting memory of her conversation with the princess came to her mind, then she looked at her again, it seemed that this was not a simple friendship. She smiled mischievously, the truth was that they both looked very adorable together, they emitted a very special energy. The question the queen was asking herself at that moment was, would Miss Freen reciprocate the princess? It was really exciting to know if that could happen, so she decided that she would not intervene until her suspicions were confirmed, after all, there was nothing more beautiful than love, in any of its forms.

"Becky, there's something I want to give you after the races are over," Freen whispered in her ear. Hearing those words made the princess shudder helplessly. It was absolutely impossible for her to resist the young lady's words.

"If you tell me like that, how could I say no," she murmured back, gently taking Freen's hand, who smiled nervously at her. She wasn't sure what was going through the princess's mind at that moment, but she realized that her words might not have been the most appropriate.

"Miss Sarocha, what is her favorite horse?" the prince asked suddenly.

The young lady removed her hand from theprincess because of the scare he gave her, she completely forgot that theprince was next to her, that there were many people around her, and thatnothing of what was happening between her and the princess was fine. Faking analmost perfect smile, she replied to the prince that she didn't like racing toomuch, since she didn't see it as a sport for ladies, so she didn't have afavorite of hers.
