Selene sat back in her chair shaking her head. She found herself saying words that were a common occurrence.
"Derek is not dead." The trio were currently sat in Scott's bedroom thinking of a plan to get the Alpha. Stiles winced.
"Scott said he walked into gun fire he sounds pretty dead to me." Stiles bobbed his head for enthusiasm. Selene repeated his action and replied.
"You said that last time and he didn't die. No. The hunters want a direct line to the Alpha and they think Derek is the key."

"All right, so then just let them do what they're planning, you know? They use Derek to get Peter, then they kill Peter - problem solved." His hands flew in the air. Selene stood up and grabbed his hands pulling them back down.
"Not problem solved. If Derek has indeed joined Peter's pack, his natural instinct to protect his Alpha will be too strong. He would die before he out sold Peter which would be a bad thing... and if they kill Derek their next move is to get to me." She explained. Stiles frowned. She had a point. Scott spoke up for the first time in a few minutes, he had been quiet due to the fact he has lost his phone.

"And not, if Peter is going after Allison to find Derek! I can't protect her on my own." Scott added.
"I can help." Selene offered, "Allison is my friend too."
"You can't help," Scott sighed. "Not if you're protecting yourself from the Argent's too." Scott stopped looking for his phone for a moment to look at Selene. He was right. She couldn't keep an eye on Allison if she was looking behind her own back the entire time. There was a silence in the room which Stiles quickly filled.

"You know, you probably lost your phone when you were fighting. You remember that, when Derek was trying to kill you, after you interrupted him trying to kill Jackson? Are you starting to see a pattern of violent behavior here?"
"He wasn't going to kill anyone. And I'm not letting him die," Selene defended. Stiles rolled his eyes. A car pulled up outside of the house. It was Melissa.
"My mom just got home from work." Scott observed.
"What's she doing?"
"Crying." He simply replied. Selene looked at Stiles. The conversation from last night coming back to her.
"You cant protect everyone." Stiles said.
"I have to."
----------------

After school the plan was to keep an eye on Allison. All three of them. Selene was with Allison and Lydia shopping for dresses. Scott and Stiles were around the shop watching from a distance. The air was slightly awkward, Lydia was jealous that Allison was going to the dance with Jackson and Allison brought up the fact that Lydia had kissed Scott.

"How did you find out about that?" Lydia asked the girl. Allison shrugged. Lydia looked at Selene who lifted her hands in defense.
"I didn't tell her anything." Lydia frowned in thought trying to think of anyone who would have told Allison.
"Don't frown Lydia. Someone could be falling in love with your smile." Allison sniggered. Lydia and Selene followed Allison's gaze. She was looking at Stiles who had sprayed perfume in his face and was currently sneezing. Selene frowned.

"What are you up to Allison?" Selene questioned. Allison smiled and walked straight up to Stiles who seemed shocked that his hiding place had been found. Lydia and Selene followed hesitantly.
"Stiles." Allison said with a smile. Stiles gave a half smile back. "I think you should take Lydia to the dance."
"What?" Lydia, Stiles and Selene all said at the same time. Stiles scratched the back of his head.
"I... I can't." He admitted. He looked between the three girls in front of him. A few months ago it would have his honor to take Lydia to the dance but now, now he was with Selene. Or at least he thought he was with Selene. They hadn't really had time to talk about their kiss. That kiss... Stiles really wanted to kiss her again.

"Oh don't be silly. Of course you can. Just pick her up at my house by 7." And without another word Allison walked off towards the dresses. Lydia followed after giving a small hesitant smile to Stiles. Stiles watched the two open mouthed.
"That could have gone better." Selene commented. Stiles gulped.
"You aren't mad are you? I tried. You saw that right?" Selene smiled at his nervousness.
"Don't worry Stiles. I saw. I'll try to fix this. But if not. Lydia is one lucky girl." She bumped him with her hip. He almost fell from the force causing Selene to giggle and him to blush.

After a while of the three looking at dresses, Lydia noticed a dress in the distance that she loved. She squealed something about being back in a second. Allison visibly stiffened.
"Hey, are you okay?" Selene asked her friend. Allison nodded without saying a word. She smelt like anxiety and fear. Something must have changed in the past minute. Selene looked at dresses wondering what it could be... unless. Allison knew. Allison knew that Selene was a wolf. This slightly terrified Selene. If Allison knew then what else did she know? Did she know where Derek was? Or worse, had she joined in with Derek's inevitable torture.

Selene could feel her own anxiety rising. She ran her hands over the fabric of the dresses.
"So," Selene said trying to make small talk. "You're going to the dance with Jackson?" Allison seemed to relax slightly.
"Yeah. As friends though. Do you... Do you have a date?"
"No. Well... No. It's complicated." Selene gave a nervous laugh. This got Allison's interest.
"Complicated how?" Selene took her hands off the dress and faced her friend.
"I thought... I assumed... I would be going with... Stiles. But its okay. Lydia is a friend and I know she needs someone to take her mind off Jackson. I'll be okay, there's no shame in going alone."

"You and Stiles? Oh my gosh! Did one of you make a move?" Selene found herself smiling slightly thinking about it.
"Yeah. We kissed, last night."
"Ugh! Finally. I knew you two would get together. But I totally just screwed it up didn't I. Damn. I'm sorry!" Allison apologized. She seemed genuinely sorry. Selene didn't pick up on any lies. A shiver went down Selene's spine. Peter was here. He walked up to the two girls as if it were completely natural.

"That's not your colour." He commented pointing to the dress Allison was holding. "Sorry if that was intrusive, but considering your skin tone, I'd go lighter." Allison was clearly uncomfortable.
"Because I'm pale?" She asked. Selene took a step closer to her friend.
"Fair." Peter corrected. He turned his head to Selene. "But you. I would go for a black or a dark blue." He pulled a dress from the rack. "This one would suit you perfectly. It's a shame about the price. I'm sure you have a loving... uncle who would be more then happy to buy you a dress for your first dance." He smirked. Allison looked between the pair clearly confused.

"Attention shoppers. To the owner of a blue Mazda, license plate 5768. Your car is being towed" an announcer called across the shop. Allison gasped.
"That's my car!" Allison rushed off leaving Selene with Peter. Selene felt slightly offended that Allison would leave her alone with, for all she knew, a stranger.
"Peter." Selene said in an aggressive tone. "You need to work on your people skills. You probably just ensured Allison never comes near you again." Peter looked at his nails.

"I'm afraid you're right. I guess that is what 6 years in a coma does to you. On top of that my nephew... well, he's been kidnapped and I'm worried I may never see him again."
"You killed your own niece. I doubt the death of Derek will cause you any pain." Selene sassed at him.
"Wrong!" Peter shouted almost knocking over a dress rack. "Family means everything to me. If only you understood! You will in time. You'll understand." Selene saw Scott in the distance. Getting ready to help if she needed him. Peter took a deep breath and handed the dress he picked out over. "You should wear this one. Make sure he knows what he is missing." He slipped money into her coat pocket, kissed her cheek. And with that he was gone. Selene looked down at the dress. She hated to admit it, but he was right. This dress was gorgeous.

---------------

Selene placed the last few touches of makeup on her face. She had spent hours getting ready. There was a knock on her door. The door slowly opened and Mr Stilinski walked in.
"Wow Selene. You look beautiful." He noticed the color of the dress.
"Thank you Noah." Selene smiled.
"Are you not going with Stiles?" He made a reference to his own neck, motioning a tie. It was common for a man to wear a tie the same color as the dress of the woman he was accompanying.
"No," Selene sighed. "He's going with someone else." Noah shook his head.
"My son in an idiot to not go with a girl like you." Selene smiled again.

She climbed into her own car for the first time in days. She ran her fingers over the wheel and sighed. She had missed it. She ensured that none of her dress had caught up in the door and set off. On the way to the school she made a quick stop.

The door opened when Selene knocked. A surprised Mrs McCall answered.
"Selene. You look lovely." She clasped her hands together. "Why are you here?"
"I'm Scott's date for the evening!" Selene grinned. Scott turned up beside his mother. He looked Selene up and down. Melissa looked at her son.
"You told me you were going stag." Scott shrugged.
"I'm not now." He laughed. Melissa insisted she got at least one photo of the pair before they left. Selene passed Scott the keys to her car.
"I'll let you drive." Scott looked down at the keys in his hand and the car in front.
"I think you just won me over." He said stunned.

At the school Scott informed Selene of his plan. She shook her head.
"I am not climbing the roof in this dress. I have a ticket. I'm walking straight through that door. I'll meet you inside." Scott nodded before making a run for a drain pipe to climb. Selene stepped forward before she heard her name being called. She turned and saw Lydia and Stiles walking towards her.
"Lydia," She greeted, "Stiles." Stiles looked the girl up and down. She looked amazing. He didn't get to see her at the house. He wished he had.
"I've been told I stole your original date Selene. Thank you for letting me borrow him." Lydia smiled. "I'll return him to you in one piece I promise." She winked.
"It's okay." Selene shrugged. "I have a date inside. He should be waiting for me."
"You have a date?" Stiles asked. Lydia hit his arm.
"Don't be silly. A girl who looks this good. Of course she has a date." She pulled Stiles towards the dance. Selene smiled and followed the pair.

In the darkness Scott and Selene sat on the bleachers. Nobody could see them due to the fact all lights were on the dance floor but they could see everyone. Scott kept his eye on Allison while Selene couldn't help but keep her eyes on Stiles. Scott stole a quick glance at his female friend and saw that she was looking at Stiles.
"You really like him, don't you?" He asked. Selene nodded.
"I do. There is something about him. I can't explain it. It's like... I'm drawn to him. I've felt it since I saw the two of you in the woods that day."
"My mom, before you knocked, gave me some advice. I think you should hear it too. Use words and tell them how you feel." Selene nodded.
"Your mom gives great advice." Before Scott could agree, Coach shouted across the music. He had spotted Scott who shouldn't be here. "Run!" Selene shouted. Scott got up from his seat and ran as fast as he could.

Some time later, Selene noticed Lydia leaving Stiles alone on the dance floor. Seeing her moment she stepped in.
"Hey Stiles." She wrapped his arms around his neck and began to sway to the music. He put his hands on her waist. "How is it going?" He winced.
"Not as good as 3rd grade me would have thought. I came here with who I thought for the longest time was the girl of my dreams but all I could think about was the girl who kissed me. I think she might be my new dream."

"Damn. That's tough." Selene commented. "You should tell her that. This new girl. I think she would feel flattered."
"Yeah. I'd hope so. But you see, she came here with another dude and I'm worried she doesn't feel the same."
"I heard that too actually. But I also heard that her date was Scott McCall and they only came here as friends." Stiles' mouth opened in shocked.
"You... You made me jealous this whole time!" He couldn't help but smile. Selene smiled too.
"I couldn't resist!" She admitted.

They both playfully glared at each other before they lent in for a quick kiss. Hands pulled them apart. It was coach.
"Leave room for Jesus." He scolded.
"I didn't know you were a believer coach." Stiles joked.
"I used to be before I met you kids." Coach grumbled before he wandered off to pull apart another couple. Selene immediately tensed up.
"What's wrong?" Stiles asked sensing her discomfort.
"He's here. Peter. He's here right now." They both looked around. Scott and Allison were currently dancing and laughing. "Where is Lydia?"
"She went to go find Jackson..." Stiles replied. "You don't think?"
"You try and get Lydia on the phone. I'll go look for them." Selene ordered as she ran from the room.

She followed Lydia's scent all the way outside and onto the playing field.
"Lydia!" she shouted trying to get the girls attention. She didn't hear. Selene began to run when she saw Peter immerge from the treeline. Selene tried shouting her name again but it was no use. She heard an extra pair of footsteps behind her. It was Stiles. He had followed Selene out. Both of them got to Lydia too late. Peter had bitten her. Selene sobbed over her friends body.
"Why are you doing this?" She asked the man in front of her.
"My little Sel." He grabbed the back of her neck. "This is why."

Selene's was sat with the rest of the pack along with some of the humans. Wolves and humans lived together in the Hale house and they were all one happy family. But Selene frowned. She didn't remember this exact scene, this exact conversation. Her father was talking to one of the little ones.
"Dad." Selene cried out trying to get his attention but it was pointless. This was a memory.

Derek's mother was talking to one of the other wolves. There seemed to be an urgency in her words. That's when all the wolves noticed. The humans didn't. Something smelt wrong. Even Selene could smell it in the memory. The smell invaded her nostrils and she could feel her lungs filling up. This was Peter's memory. His memory of the house fire.

"Dad!" Selene shouted trying to get his attention. Hoping that somehow, she could get to him through the memory, but the past is the past and nothing can change it. "Dad!" she cried again. The flames were getting closer to them. There was nowhere to go. The flames danced around their feet as if they were taunting them. Selene could hear everyone screaming but the one that stood out the most was her fathers. The memory quickly changed and Selene saw all of the faces of the people Peter had killed. All of them hunters. All of them involved with the fire that night. That is what he was doing. He was getting revenge for his family. Their family.

Selene sat up gasping for air. The air in her lungs were smoke free and clean but she still grasped at her throat and began to choke. Her claws extended and her eyes turned gold. For a split second Peter could have sworn he saw them turn white but it must have been the reflection of the moon in the sky.
"Nice to see you're back Selene. Now you may see things from my perspective."
