Chapter 4

Luna woke up and peered into the light green eyes of Ani.

"Are you awake, Luna?" She asked.

Luna blinked the sleep out of her eyes. "I am now." She said, rubbing her amber eyes. 

Ani laughed and pulled Luna up. "Kia asked me to take you hunting. C'mon, let's go!"

"But I can't really hunt with a knife, can I?" Luna asked, confused. Ani would have no problem hunting; her long spear was perfect for that.

"Yes, you can. If you throw it. You have to get really close, though. Can you be stealthy?" Luna nodded quickly. If she could steal bread right under the merchants' big noses, knife-hunting would be a breeze. Probably. Ani led her out of the camp. They headed into the big woods. The pine trees cast eerie shadows on Ani and Luna. They heard a twig crack. Ani froze, so Luna did too.

"Rabbit," Ani whispered. "Can you hunt it?" Luna nodded, though she wasn't quite sure she could. She had hunted once before with a  left-behind Hunter's spear. But knife-hunting? This could be a challenge. She spotted the rabbit. It was very fat, and would feed at least two people. Luna crept behind it until she could almost reach out and touch its fluffy tail. She rushed forward, thrusting her knife into the rabbit's side. It flopped over dead.

"Thank you, rabbit. Your sacrifice will not be wasted." Luna murmured to the dead body. It was something she had always done. The wildlife provided for her. It was the least she could do for them. She gently picked up the dead rabbit and carried it over to Ani. Ani's eyes widened.

"Nice work, Luna! That rabbit looks great." Luna beamed with pride. She noticed Ani was empty-handed.

"Did you catch anything?" She asked.

Ani scowled. "I saw a deer, a big buck, but it got away. A real shame. Would have fed a lot of us." Luna nodded. She loved deer meat. Rabbit was good too, though. Especially since she caught it.
