Quietus
Ashes to ashes,
I'm already dead —
Dust to dust,
I feel nothing but dread
A foot in the grave,
Just going through the motions —
A tag hangs from my toe
Despite life's idyllic notions
My life entombed,
I never got to live...
My grave was robbed —
They took all I had to give
Six feet under...
Shuffled off the mortal coil —
I lay stiff and cold,
Beneath the hardened soil
From cradle to grave,
It all meant nothing.
Interred against my wishes —
My body filled with stuffing
My bloodless cadaver,
Waits upon the gritty shore —
Caught between this world,
And all I care for
But I've crossed over
And accepted my fate —
Don't bother with goodbyes...
It's already too late.
