2 - Doctor
The girl he had met on the train had seemed quite distant. He assumed it was just because he was new to her, and she may not easily bond with new people, but then he heard the rumors flying around about her.
Some said she was a loner who had no friends. Others said her father died, so she had trust issues.
He tried to ignore these, and the pity in their voices as they spoke, but it was difficult. The only haven he had was the Hufflepuff common room. Most Hufflepuffs refrained from gossip as much as possible, but there were a few exceptions. They were easier to ignore than the other students around the campus, though.
I was strange to him. How she was in the same year as him, but he had never heard of her before this year. Maybe he was listening on purpose, his subconscious trying to soak in as much information about the girl as possible. For some reason, he felt drawn to her, and he was sure it had nothing to do with her soft brown eyes, or her wavy golden hair. And especially not the way she bit her tongue when she smiled.
Embarrassingly, he found himself watching her in class, and when they both had free time. He knew it was probably a little creepy, but he was just checking in on her, to make sure the rumors weren't getting to her.
Every once in a while, she would pass him in the hall, and send him a small smile. And whenever he would say 'hi', she would participate in polite conversation with him. He would also, occasionally see her doing the same with a Slytherin boy who had transferred from America.
He had only talked to the boy a few times, but he was quite nice, unlike some of his fellow housemates. Jack didn't seem to care about which house you were in. He flirted with every student in the school and was the highest topic of gossip, just above Rose.
Although, his disregard of house lines seemed to have left him ostracized by those in his house, seeing as he sat alone at the table.
After a week or two of sitting alone, The Doctor couldn't stand it anymore. He looked so lonely at the table all alone. He marched over to the Slytherin table, grabbed Jack by the arm, and pulled him over to the Hufflepuff table.
No one in his house seemed to care all that much, since Hufflepuff was the table with the widest variety of house sitting at it. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw were welcoming enough, and Slytherin kicked anyone who invited another house per to their table out, but Hufflepuff made an effort to make sure other houses were at their table.
"Um, excuse me, who are you again?" The boy looked confused, and he had a right to be. A few conversations at the very beginning of the year were not grounds to drag someone from their table.
"I'm The Doctor. We've talked a few times." He was suddenly nervous. Why had he just dragged over the boy? Just because he looked lonely? "I was wondering if you would like to sit with me, seeing as you're alone at your table."
"Well, I'm already over here, aren't I?"He joked, releasing any tension that had been there.
After that, he and Jack became good friends. they would study together in the library and Jack would ride his broomstick while the Doctor read outside. Sometimes, Jack would even drag the Doctor along on his 'adventures'. Meaning, they would go out at night and break school rules.
"C'mon Doc. Just meet me outside your common room at midnight on Wednesday, three days from now. It'll be fun, promise." Jack had been trying to get him to join him on, yet another, escapade for the past few minutes.
"I have an essay due on Thursday that we haven't been assigned yet." He weakly argued.
"Oh, c'mon, we both know you can finish that essay in no time. Just start early."
He was right, but he didn't want to risk getting caught and get detention. Not that they ever did get caught, Jack was too good at what he did.
"What are we even doing?"
"You'll see. Just know, it will make all of these adventures even more fun." That worried The Doctor. Him and Jack sometimes had the same idea of what was fun, but other times...
"Fine. Midnight." He mumbled, almost angry at himself for giving in, not only to Jack's pleads, but also to whatever it was they were going to be doing tonight.
