The heavy rain blinded Lexi's vision as it pelted down, drowning as much of the town as it could. Lighting flashed across the sky, occasionally striking down a tree or building. Thunder rumbled loudly in her ears. "Alexander? James?" Lexi called out desperately, "Where are you guys? Are you okay?" There was no response. Shit shit shit. They had to be okay. This was all her fault. She was the one who had suggested they go home for the summer.

"Lexi!" Finally, she heard Alexander yell her name over the storm. Lexi ran toward him, and as she got closer she realized he had tears streaming down his face. This was only the second time Lexi had ever seen Alexander cry. Wordlessly, he grabbed her arm and led her down the hill they were standing on, trying to avoid the rising water level. She tried to pull back, but he was stronger and soon they were standing under the tree her and her friends had climbed when she was little.

Lexi almost passed out when she saw what awaited her under that tree. James was lying lifeless in a pool of his own blood that was getting bigger by the second, mixed with the water that was continuing to pour down from the sky. "Oh my god." She whispered. A sob climbed it's way up her throat. Alex wrapped her arms around her for what was probably the first time in years. Her and James had alway been closer, but now he was... dead.

A/N: Hey guys, so I know that chapter was really short but it's only the prologue, so I promise that the rest of the chapters will be longer! So ye, this is my new book and I don't really know how this is gonna work out I kinda just thought up the entire plot of this book in french class when I was really bored so it might suck.
