🌸Chapter 18🌸
Hello everyone! Bakurokii here! I know it has been a super long wait for the last two parts, but your wait is over! We hope you enjoy the rest of In The Ceaseless Snow!
Sasuke was running around the cafe, getting people's orders and then giving them to Kiba. "Man, can't our rush lighten up?" Sasuke asked with a groan as sweat was forming on his brow, handing another order to his co-worker.
Kiba chuckled as he took the order from Sasuke's hand, "Business is business, I suppose." He looked back at Sasuke who was glaring at him.
"I will-" Before Sasuke could finish his sentence, his phone started ringing from the pocket of his work pants.
"You will what?" Kiba asked with a playful smirk.
Sasuke reached into his pocket and grabbed his phone, pulling it out to look at the caller I.D. Itachi, it read. "I will strangle you as soon as I answer this call." He said. He clicked the answer button as he walked into the back. The back door swinging shut as he walked into the office, leaning against the wall. "Hey Itachi, what's u-"
"It's Sakura." Sasuke's eyes widened as he clicked the end button. He rushed out of the office and out the double doors and back onto the main floor, running past Kiba and jumping over the counter.
"Take care of the cafe for me!" He yelled to Kiba.
"Sasuke, wait!" But Sasuke was already gone, Kiba hung his head and sighed. He then looked up, "Anyway ma'am, what can I get for you?" He asked with a bright smile to the woman standing at the front counter.
Sasuke was running as fast as his legs could carry him, the hospital wasn't that far from the cafe so the run shouldn't be that long. Sasuke's breath was growing heavy the more he ran but the hospital was in his sights. Sasuke reached the hospital doors and ran in, not even thinking about using the elevators. The ravenette ran to the stairs, sprinting up them no matter how much it hurt. Sasuke grabbed the doorknob to Sakura's floor and swung it open, running through the hall. He then saw Itachi standing outside of Sakura's room as doctor after doctor and nurse after nurse ran in and out of her room. Sasuke reached Itachi and came to a halt, sliding lightly across the floor, grabbing his brother's arm for support. "What happened?!" He asked in a panic, his bangs sticking to his forehead due to the gathering sweat.
Itachi had a frown across her face. "She flatlined for a few minutes..but they got her heart to start beating again.." He said, the commotion starting to dial down. "They don't know if she's going to wake back up.."
Sasuke's breath hitched in his throat. His worst possible nightmares were coming to fruition. The doctor then turned to them, coming out of the room and shutting the door behind him. "We managed to get her stabilized." The started, folding his hands in front of him as he spoke. "But we don't know how much longer she has left." Tears came to Sasuke's eyes but he held them back, Itachi lightly placed a hand on his brother's shoulder and gave it a light squeeze. "Mr. Uchiha." The doctor said as he turned to Itachi. "You can't even see, you should head back to bed."
Itachi still had the same frown across his features. "You're right, sorry doctor." Itachi's hand fell from Sasuke's shoulders as the doctor began to lead him back to his room. "Go in and see her, Sasuke. She needs the company." Itachi advised as he walked back into his room.
Sasuke sighed as he stared at the door, grabbing the doorknob but hesitated. His hands started to shake lightly, he grabbed his hand on the doorknob with his other hand and tried his best to calm down. The shaking then calmed down and he twisted the doorknob and pushed the door open. Once Sasuke shut the door behind him, his breath caught in his throat at the sight of Sakura. She was as pale as a ghost and her hair was a disaster, she would be extremely disappointed in her doctors for not keeping her hair intact.
Sasuke reached his hand into his pocket and gripped the small box that he was hiding. I'll ask her when she wakes up.
Sasuke had maybe himself comfy in a chair beside Sakura's bed, and sat there for a few hours as he waited for Sakura to wake up.
Eventually, three hours later, Sakura stirred in her bed. She slowly opened her eyes to see Sasuke at her bedside, asleep. She smiled lightly as she looked down, his hand was in hers and she gave his hand a light squeeze. Upon feeling this, Sasuke opened his eyes to see Sakura awake. He sat up quickly as he leaned in. "You're awake..!" He smiled lightly as tears came to his eyes.
"I'm awake.." She mumbled with a small smile. Her eyes then traveled past Sasuke to stare out the window. "Still snowing, huh?" She asked.
Sasuke didn't answer as he stood up without a word, if he was going to do this then he was going to do it right. Sakura cocked her head to the side as she watched Sasuke stand up. Sasuke pulled the box out of his pocket as he got down on one knee. Sakura's breath caught in her throat as she stared at him, tears coming to her eyes, she didn't think he was going to propose so soon. "Sakura," Sasuke started, staring into her emerald eyes. "Will you marry me?"
Sakura relished in those words as they came out of Sasuke's mouth.
"Yes!"
---
It took the entire day, but everyone had managed to get everything planned for the small hospital room wedding. Mikoto helped find Sakura a good wedding dress that fit her and Fugaku helped with Sasuke's suit. Sakura was laid in her bed, her face paler than a few days prior. Fugaku, Mikoto, and Itachi were standing at the back of the hospital room, holding a tablet that was sharing video feed. Kizashi and Mebuki were on the other end, smiling. Sasuke stood next to Sakura's bed, holding her hand as the Minister walked in. They're just so happened that a doctor in the hospital was an ordained minister. He cleared his throat as he stood in front of Sakura's bed. "Let's get started then, shall we?" He asked. Sasuke and Sakura nodded. "True marriage is more than simply joining two persons together through the bonds of matrimony. It is also the union of two hearts and the blending of two families. It lives on the love you give each other and never grows old, but also thrives on the joy of each new day. Marriage is and should be, an expression of love. May you always be able to talk things over, to confide in each other, to laugh with each other, to enjoy life together, and to also share those moments of quiet and peace, when the day is done. May you be blessed with a lifetime of happiness and a home of warmth and understanding."
The minister glanced up at the bride and groom to make sure they were following along, a few sniffs could be heard from Mikoto who was already crying. "Sasuke and Sakura, today you choose each other before your family, to begin your life together. For all the tomorrows that follow, you will choose each other over and again, in the privacy of your hearts. Let your love and friendship guide you, as you learn and grow together. Experience the wonders of the world, even as patience and wisdom calm the restless nature. Through your new partnership, may you triumph over the challenges in your path. Through the comfort of loving arms, may you always find a safe place to call home."
"Sasuke and Sakura, seek from within yourselves the serenity to accept the things you cannot change. The courage to change the things that you must and the wisdom to know the difference. Live each day, one day at a time. Enjoying your time together, one moment at a time. Seek the wisdom of experience, learning all that you can from each other. Accept hardships as the building blocks of experience, realizing that accepting both the good and bad are simply a part of being alive. Strive to make as many things right as is humanly possible in your life together that you may be reasonably happy in the life you share from this day forward"
The Minister locked eyes with Sasuke. "Please repeat after me." Sasuke nodded. "I, Sasuke, accept you Sakura, as my constant companion and my loving wife. I promise to care for you, honor you, and cherish you, for as long as we both shall live."
Sasuke looked down at Sakura as he began to repeat the vows. "I Sasuke, accept you Sakura, as my constant companion and my loving wife. I promise to care for you, honor you, and cherish you, for as long as we both shall live." Tears began to brim Sakura's eyes as she heard Sasuke talking.
"I take you to be my spouse, in equal love, as a mirror for my true self, and as a partner on my path, to honor you and cherish you, in sorrow and in joy, till death do us part." The minister continued.
"I take you to be my spouse, in equal love, as a mirror for my true self, and as a partner on my path, to honor you and cherish you, in sorrow and in joy, till death do us part." Sasuke felt Sakura grip his hand a little tighter.
The Minister slowly smiled, "I take you as my wedded wife, to share my life with you, and pledge that I will love, honor, and care for you in tenderness and affection, in all the many circumstances of our lives."
Then finally, Sasuke repeated. "I take you as my wedded wife, to share my life with you, and pledge that I will love, honor, and care for you in tenderness and affection, in all the many circumstances of our lives."
The Minister averted his eyes over to Sakura. "Please repeat after me." Sakura nodded silently. "I Sakura, accept you Sasuke, as my constant companion and my loving wife. I promise to care for you, honor you, and cherish you, for as long as we both shall live."

The finally, Sakura repeated those last words. "I take you as my wedded wife, to share my life with you, and pledge that I will love, honor, and care for you in tenderness and affection, in all the many circumstances of our lives."
The Minister turned to look at the families. "The rings, please." He said. Itachi took slow steps towards the Minster, the Minister helping stop Itachi so the elder Uchiha didn't run into anything. "Thank you, sir." He said, handing a ring to both Sasuke and Sakura, gesturing for Sasuke to continue.
Sasuke lightly took Sakura's hand and slowly slid the ring onto her finger. "With this ring, I thee wed."
Sakura and Sasuke looked each other in the eyes as Sakura took Sasuke's hand and put the ring on his finger. "With this ring, I thee wed."
The Minister smiled brightly. "And now, by the power vested in me by the City of Konoha, I hereby pronounce you husband and wife." The Minister looked at Sasuke. "You may now kiss your bride." With no more words being said, Sasuke place both of his hands on the sides of Sakura's face, and pulled her in, kissing her gently. Sakura Haruno was now Sakura Uchiha.
---
A few hours had passed, Itachi had gone back to his room and the parents had left which left Sasuke and Sakura to be alone together. Sasuke was laying in Sakura's bed with his arm wrapped around her and her head was laying on her chest. She had gotten worse since the wedding and they both knew she barely had time left. Sasuke stared out the window, it was still snowing and Sasuke just wished that it would stop. "I love you," Sasuke said to Sakura.
Sakura managed to crack a small smile. "I love..you." She said, it was getting hard to breathe.
Sasuke just wanted to stay there. "It's okay, hun.." Sasuke said to her. "Go to sleep..we both know you can't keep your eyes open for much longer."
Tears came to Sakura's eyes. "But...I can't leave you." She muttered.
"It will be alright, everything will be alright." Sasuke stroked Sakura's hair. "I will be right here when you wake up." He said. Sakura nodded as she closed her eyes and let the darkness consume her. The machine that was keeping track of Sakura's vitals was beeping slowly and gradually slowed down as the night went on. Then, eventually, it flatlined. Sasuke bit his lip as he looked out the window once more, his breath catching in his throat.
The snow had finally stopped.
