Chapter four

Lavi's POV

**

Heading out that morning without a single kobo in my pocket and a promise of getting breakfast for Katherine is alarming.

She is just hungry and not craving for something out of the ordinary like every pregnant woman out there.

Katherine is different. She hardly crave for things. Maybe it's because she knows I can't afford most of it.

Gosh....

Where was I headed exactly? I had no particular place in mind but I was determined to get breakfast even if it means me begging for it.

I walked passed a few shops along the street hoping for a miracle I knew for sure it wasn't going to happen.

I knew I was hoping for too much no doubt!

In a country like ours; miracle like a falling manna is a cliche only the Israelite were entitled to enjoy.

My parent would have disowned me by now after realizing I left home with Katherine and ran away months ago and I can't dare go back there not even to see my siblings even if it's just for a second.

No one was home when I left that day. They had all gone to school. I never would have had the courage to leave Nike behind if she had been at home.

Her tiny little hands would have stopped me from leaving but what choice do I have than to do otherwise when her father was threatening to to have her abort the bastard she was carrying.

Heck!

Why would he call our baby a bastard when the father was alive and kicking? Except he was a penniless guy like me of course.

Pushing the thought behind me. I headed straight to a truck full of loads waiting to be offload in front of a warehouse down the street.

Maybe they might be in need of workers.

I met the man in charge and they were indeed in need of workers cos other guys were waiting as well.

Just my lucky day!

Carrying a bag of 50kg of flour could go for fifty naira and in my head; if I could manage to lift at least fifty bags; I'd earn up to two thousands five hundred naira. Just the amount I needed at the moment.

With much determination and courage, I was able to pull through with the final bag and sighed in relief.

Stashing the money inside my faded jean pocket, I headed back to the nearest food vendor to get food items and some sachet of milk and chocolate.

Very important items in her meal and some fruit as well.

I'll still drop by at Baba Ade's shop later to see if he has any work for me but for now; I have to rush home with whatever I can buy.

Katherine is waiting with our baby kicking fiercely at her.

I hurried back to the dump I share with her and found her very much fast asleep with a slight frown on her face.

She must have fallen asleep while waiting for me to return.

It's passed eleven already.

Christ!

She has her hands wrapped protectively around her stomach with her head placed on the pack of clothes that was made into a pillow on the bed.

Baba Ade had leaned me money to get that bed while I worked for him in his shop.

She looked so fragile and yet at peace. I just wish I could give her the life she so deserves. A life of a princess in which I took away from her in one moment of weakness.

Katherine had lost everything the moment she surrendered herself to loving me for who I am. A total nobody. Just a guy with a pocket full of ambitions.

Katherine's POV

**

I opened my eyes the moment I heard metals crashing against each other by the corner of the room where it's set out to be our little kitchen.

I swallowed a Saliva the moment I perceived something.

It's smell so good at the moment.

Lavi was cooking!

I struggled to my feet, dragging myself to where he stood.

He was too serious cooking to even notice a movement behind him. He must have decided against waking me up when he came back and found me sleeping.

He is always so sweet and thoughtful when it comes to me.

"Mmmmm...it's smell like heaven around here" trying to get a glimpse of what my nose has been feeding on.

Turning around, he grabbed me by the shoulder and steadied me back on my feet.

I was standing on my tipy toe.

Don't blame me, I'm not that tall.

"You were not supposed to wake up until I was done cooking" he whined.

"The aroma lured me out of my sleep. Not my fault" I countered back with a frown.

Leading me back to the bed...

" Seat over here then, let me finish" he ordered.

"But I wanna see what you're cooking please" pouting at him.

I struggled to get back on my feet again but he held me back.

"No you don't have to..just think of it as a surprise okay? So seat back and relax and allow me to woah you" grinning a mischievous one at me.

Wrapping my arms around his neck. I pulled him closer..

"You won't really let me help you then?"

"No!" Shaking his head

"Not even if I kiss you?" Nuzzling my nose against his...

"Are you in any way offering me a bribe ma'am?" With a raised brow

"No, of course not! Am just asking that you let me help you" faking innocence

I tried to kiss him but he pulled back and placed a finger over my lips...." How about we save that kiss for later"

I gave a small nod and a smile before sticking my tongue out at him.

He chuckled lightly at me before rubbing at my stomach.

"You're such a big baby you know that?" Poking at my nose

"No I don't ! So how about you tell me about it adult" smirking at him.

"Of course I will but that will be after am done cooking okay?"

I nodded at him while he turned back to the pot on the stove....

Whatever he is cooking is making me salivate a lot.

I can't wait to have a taste!
