'What did you say?' Sam asked again so everyone would be clear.

'You got me,' she said and smiled.

'I don't understand,' I responded and tried imagining her do a thing like that...well she was capable.

'Well, it all started when you were employed...'

I had a file of the list of people that had applied to E-Jhay TV...my brother inclusive. I gave it to my boss and when he looked at the file, he picked Rebecca Stanley. I smiled and asked him why he picked one person, surely two could do...Andrew inclusive. He said he needed a lady.

I was angry with my boss...I had worked my nuts to make sure my brother got into the list of those who scaled through cause of their profile but he wasn't picked.

When I saw her in the office, truth be told, I wasn't happy...I was filled with anger everyday I saw her until my boss sent me to the engineering department and hired Rebecca as his personal assistant. I had no idea about engineering, yet a rookie got my job. I knew I had to do something about it...I had to make her pay for what was happening to me....and I saw the perfect opportunity...Sam and Eric.

I met Eric the day he came to pick someone up at the office...yes, we spoke for the minutes you were with my former boss...told me he was waiting for his girlfriend...so I got his number, saying I was Rebecca's best friend Sam...he didn't suspect a thing.

So every time I passed and heard you and Sam discuss privately, I would listen and call Eric...

'Eric, it's me Sam... Rebecca is traveling to Nigeria with her boss...I don't think it's a good idea...you've gotta stop it.'

'Eric, it's Sam. Rebecca slept with her boss in Nigeria.'

I was the snitch and I knew the only way to get to both of them was to impersonate Sam...what I didn't count on was Adrian falling in love with her. I loved him but he noticed Rebecca... everything was about Rebecca... Rebecca this, Rebecca that...so sickening.

We all looked at her like a demon from the shores of hell...that's what she was. Then I looked at Sam, who was so transfixed, staring at Lily.

'You're a demon...' she yelled, 'you're gonna pay for everything...' Sam charged towards Lily with the knife and the last thing she heard was a gunshot.

Sam fell to the ground before my very eyes...I felt adrenaline rush through me and Adrian and Eric noticed it... reading my next move from my eyes, Adrian distracted Lily when Eric got the gun and I mounted on Lily...punching her with every fiber of my remaining strength...

When I noticed her bleed from her nose, mouth and forehead, I ran to Sam...she was bleeding from her mouth...tears falling from the corner of her eyes...

'I'm sorry Becky...I'm sorry,' she said and coughed blood.

'I'm the one who should be sorry...I should have trusted you...you're my best friend and I need you to fight through this for us...' I sobbed with pain...

'We've gotta go right now...I've got the gun,' Eric said. I watched Adrian raise Sam up slowly, while I kicked Lily in the face again and followed suit. Jared and two other guys were shot by Eric to clear the way for us.

Luckily for us, the police vehicle was passing by... I yelled for help, with Sam's blood all over my dirty top.

The police car turned around and came back to help us. We kept Sam slowly and I entered, to support her head, Adrian entered the back too...then we heard another gunshot.

Eric smiled at me as blood poured from his mouth...The police stepped out and shot the guy who shot Eric...

We drove as fast as we could to help both Eric and Sam...the paramedics moved as quickly as they could while I waited patiently for the doctor.

Hours later

I saw the doctor walk out into the lobby.

'Doctor...how is Sam?'

'She is fine...she had two broken ribs and some other complications... we're still observing her...and we're doing all we can.'

I nodded...'and Eric? How is he?'

His face changed...'His spine was ruptured from the bullet and it punctured his lung too...we are only hoping and praying that he survives it.'

He walked away...Adrian brought some food and I ate it without chill...I needed my strength to be there for Sam and Eric.

Days passed and still no positive results from the doctor.

Father, please save them...save Sam and Eric. I don't want to lose them... please I prayed in silence.

Day 7

'Doctor...what's the report so far?' I asked...'it's been been a week already.'

'Ms. Becky... we're doing all we can like I said...both of them were shot in delicate places...pray for them...' he hadn't finished when the speaker mouthed loudly...

Doctor Palacio to the ICU... emergency...paging Doctor Palacio to the ICU.

He ran and left me.

Hours later...

I hadn't gotten good sleep for the past few days but it didn't matter to me...the two people I cared about were in serious condition...plus Adrian was always there with me to make me comfortable.

I saw the doctor walk out, holding his stethoscope in his hand. He didn't look good.

'What is the report doctor? How are they?'

'Sam lost her ovaries and won't be able to bear children but she will be fine... she's still unconscious and she suffered a head trauma...the worst is over Ms. Becky...'

I smiled at Adrian who held my shoulder...'what about Eric?'

'I'm sorry...he didn't make it,' he added and walked away...

'What about Eric?' I screamed, running towards the doctor and Adrian holding me back...

I have friends who have watched their loved ones die in front of them and I have watched people I love die too.

The good assurance is that we are comforted by God and the people who love us and are constantly there.
