Chapter Six - Being Mr Not
Being a personal assistant to Mr Hot now Mr Not wasn't easy. He worked my ass out... Becky do this... Becky do that...Becky stand here, move there. It was as if I was not a staff anymore but an intern. Sam said he was doing it to test my working pressure.
He won because my pressure had dropped from happy staff to angry bird... whatever his plan was, it was working. I closed late, got him food before going home and I had to be up early to make breakfast in his house. Severally, I drafted my resignation letter but no courage to put it into official writing... amazingly, he raised my pay so I had to work...he wasn't romantic at all.
My day off from the office is usually Wednesdays so this one wasn't an exception. I woke up at my own time, cleaned my house and had my bath...made breakfast and ate. I needed a massage badly, the best I could do was relax and enjoy the quiet, peace excluded.
My phone rang and it was Mr Not hot. I practiced my sleep voice and picked the call...it's always advisable at this time to keep the distance between your ear and the phone...cause I was temporarily deaf for ten seconds.
'Where the hell are you? I don't have coffee or breakfast or cleared files.' I mimicked him, then spoke.
'It's my day off sir.'
He scoffed and became quiet. 'Rebecca, you don't have day off until I say you do. Now get your lazy self down here and come with my coffee...hot, just the way I like it.' The call ended.
Sluggishly, I wore a black skirt that had a slit in front of it with gold buttons lining it, wore my black chiffon top that had puffy edges and left the house with some office files...I looked like I was going for a funeral...yes, to bury Mr Not hot anymore...the man was driving me to hell, without stopping for roadside food.
I picked up his coffee at the Shop-rite breakfast guide five blocks away from the office, walked fast and slow cause I can't kee myself in this life. When I got there, he was pacing like a prancing pony...he looked at me with so much scorn. 'You're late Rebecca and I'm angry.'
I didn't say anything...if I did, I will have black coffee on my face...'I'm sorry sir, it won't happen again.'
He became calm and offered me a seat. He took the coffee and drank from it, boring his laser beam eyes at my forehead. 'Have you eaten?' he asked me, to my surprise.
I nodded a yes...not sure of what he was trying to do. 'Reschedule my appointments for next week. Phoenix, come with me,' he said with a smile and started walking out.
I was confused...'where to sir?'
'You'll see,' was his reply.
