Five

My eyes blinked open slowly the next morning to see I was in John's bed, peaking over the edge to see John on the floor, sleeping with solely a blanket and pillow.

He was squirming beginning to wake as well, most likely from hearing me wake up.

"What are you doing on the floor? Couch wasn't comfortable?" I squinted from the light shining into the room, looking down to him with a coquettish look.

"You could've had your bed." I reminded him feeling a tinge if guilt seeing as he had very poor sleeping conditions, obviously finding the couch to not be sufficient.

I suspected he feel asleep in the ground next to be to feel like he was near incase I needed him, protectively, which made a warm tinge of a feeling move throughout my chest.

"I know, I'm comfortable." He moped sleepily moving to his side with a groan, putting a hand on his sore back.

"Looks like it." I giggled with a shake of my head, he opening one eye to peep up at me and smile lazily.

I lifted myself up off the pillow sitting up and hanging my feet off the side of the bed. John was evidently struggling to wake himself letting out another groan.

"Five more minutes." He whined moodily.

"Me mum will call the rozzers, tellin 'em I'm a missing person or something." I laughed though I knew it could've been a possibility.

"Right." He remembered, forcing himself to sit up, looking as if his head weighed a ton.

He was squinting worse than I was, and I could tell he needed his glasses which somehow were rarely seen helping his sight.

I picked them up from his nightstand and extended them toward him, "can you even see anything without them?" I inquired curiously, seeing him clearly not wanting to put them on, embarrassed.

He shrugged, "I don't like wearing them." He grumbled wiping sleep from his eye.

"I saw you wear them when you walked into the cafe. I like them." I encourage as he put them on hesitantly.

He hummed funnily, lifting an eyebrow suggestively from behind the glasses after he'd put them on.

I stepped around John as I got off the bed, shaking my head at him blissfully, grabbing my clothes from a pile on the floor where I had changed to Johns shirt, beginning to make my way to the bathroom to change.

Once the two of us had gotten somewhat decent I decided to call my mum, knowing it might be easier to be yelled at over the phone.

"Hello?" She answered causing me to wince nervously.

"Mum? It's Elle." I spoke holding my breath, waiting for her to shout.

"Ellie? Is something wrong? How's your aunt Joan doing?" She inquired, obviously thinking I ended up going away with my father and siblings for the night.

My eyes widened in shock.

"She's great," I lied feeling an immense amount of relief, "I'm fine, I just wanted to see how you were." I spoke shutting my eyes tightly realizing how idiotic it sounded.

"Fine," she laughed lightly, "I thought I'd see you when I got home, but I'm glad you felt well enough to go." She sounded happy.

"Yeah, I'm great." I laughed nervously.

"I'll see you at home after work alright? I better be off." She spoke.

I couldn't believe how easily I had gotten away with it all as I hung up with a goodbye, seeing John come out of the bathroom questioning why I looked so upbeat.

"She thinks I went to my aunts with my da'." I beamed.

He flashed his teeth joyously, "no harm no foul, as mother superior says." He nodded dryly, fixing his hair.

"So, breakfast?." John offered with a small grin.
                 _______________

John and I had decided to take the bus to go to a restaurant for breakfast that John loved back on Penny Lane, which seemed to be an ongoing theme for the two of us.

"Is something the matter?" I asked after we both sat, seeing his gaze fixed at me intensely.

"Oh, no, everything's peachy." He nodded sitting back in attempt to maintain his teddy boy cover, scratching the back of his neck nonchalantly.

I looked down to my lap with an overwhelming feeling of a thick tension that surrounded John and I as our kiss last night had really seemed to seal the deal between us, though both of us had went to bed shortly after as both of our eyes were heavy. I really wasn't sure what exactly to feel, was I to think John reciprocated the same feelings or if he wasn't taking anything too seriously.

"Write any new songs? For your band?" I cut through the tension with a smile, watching him lean back forward more comfortably.

"Yeah actually, I've got a few new ones I'm working on with Paul," He nodded, "maybe you'll come back 'round to mine again sometime and I'll play them for you?" His signature smug smirk peaked.

"Sounds like a plan." I nodded enthuse in response.

"Well if you want a plan, would you, want to come with me to the casbah club New Year's Eve? Pete's mum owns the joint and it's become sort've, tradition. D'you fancy coming with me?" He asked growing more nervous, grabbing his cigarettes from his pocket and tapping the bottom of the box obviously feeling he could use one.

My heart fluttered as he had practically asked me to be apart of his New Years tradition. I hadn't expected for him to already have in mind the next time we would see each other.

"I'd love to, seeing as my tradition is, staying in." I admitted sheepishly seeing him chuckle as he look out a cigarette and offered it out to me.

"Cig?"

"Nah I shouldn't." I flushed of colour feeling embarrassed about yesterday's incident as he put it to his lips to light it.

"You're mum wouldn't approve?" He took slight amusement in how quickly I had turned it down.

"Well yes, partially anyway." I shrugged become more introverted as I dreaded talking about my mums overprotective nature, especially since there was good reason.

"And what would she say if she knew you were out with me?" He leaned forward smugly taking out his cigarette out from between his lips.

"Nothing that would matter to me. I'm capable of controlling my own decisions." I nodded firmly after contemplating for a brief second, seeing John's features illuminate.

"Suppose that's good news for me then?" He grinned taking a slow puff from his cigarette.
_______________

After we had spent the morning together I soon had to get home before my dad and mum so we had to part ways.

"Thank you for everything, really." I spoke shyly as we walked up the steps of my front porch of my house, John looking to me with a warm sparkle in his eyes.

"For you, anytime." He crossed his arms cockily with a curl of his lip.

"Is that a promise?" I smiled sneakily watching his eyebrows lift.

"Course." He spoke more genuinely with a softness in his features.

"Well then I'll see you soon, John." I watched as he seemed to become slightly downcast.

I turned after a moment of silence, feeling his hand grab mine, must having the same feeling I did if not wanting to part.

My eyes trailed from his hand up along his arm to reach his eyes, he being very quiet as I turned back to face him with a couple of uncertain blinks.

He leaned down to kiss me, my hand moving up to his face in shock, soon running my hand through his hair as we kissed.

"D'you really have to go?" John pouted childishly as he broke away from my lips.

"Sadly, I do." I let out a small giggle as I backed away from him, drawing my bottom lip between my teeth. I knew everyone would be home soon and John being with me would certainly cause some uproar.

"I'll see you New Years." He spoke asking more of a question with a hopeful look in his eyes.

"I'll see you New Years." I responded turning once more feeling his gaze on me until I shut the door.

Little did I know, the new year would bring more tribulation than I had bargained for.
