Chapter 16
TW: fighting and blood
---
Peter sat by Belle's side once she had settled. Everynow and then she would look over with an expression void of any emotion and just stare. It was unsettling and I could tell Bucky was on the verge of a panic attack himself. His grip on the kitchen counter was so tight the marble would crack any second.
"I'll keep an eye on her. You go talk to Bucky." Wade whispered. I nodded and walked over to Bucky. His body language was screaming at me to stay away yet his eyes told another story.
"What was that?" I asked carefully, watching as Bucky's jaw twitched.
"I don't really know. They don't happen often. Whenever things get too much she goes into sensory overload. There have been worse ones in the past, but even the small ones are exhausting for her."
"That's....awful." I placed my hand on his shoulder to provide what little comfort I could.
Bucky's head suddenly jerked up as a tiny giggle bounced around the room. Peter had connected his phone to the headphones and was playing some sort of compilation video. I'm pretty sure they are called vines, he forced me to watch some a while back to get me up to speed.
Peter looked back at us and gave a thumbs up. All the tension left Bucky's shoulders melted away and he allowed himself the smallest laugh.
"Terribly sorry to interrupt this sweet moment but Peter is that supposed to be flashing red." Wade pointed to the Comms on the kitchen counter which were, as it would happen, flashing red. Peter scrambled over turning them on. The room was filled with siren-like alarms; a warning of incoming danger.
"Karen what's happening?"
Incoming avengers. Your father is at the door Peter. I would suggest you don't answer it.
"You don't say." Wade said sarcastically. Belle was none the wiser, still giggling to herself on the couch.
A knock on the door commanded silence, no one moved in fear of alerting Tony to our presence. We needn't have bothered as a second later the door knob was on the floor and Tony sauntered into the apartment. He didn't have his suit on but that didn't lessen his threatening aura.
"What the fuck man, you better pay me for that." Wade exclaimed giving Bucky enough time to get Belle out of the firing line. She ducked behind the kitchen island, trembling in confusion.
"You two are in deep shit and you," Tony spun round to glare at me. "You are lucky there isn't a warrant for your arrest."
"I wouldn't care if there was." I snapped back, stepping Infront of Bucky. Peter and Wade followed my lead, forming a wall of super soldiers Tony would have a hard time to break through.
Tony stepped forward and raised his hand to tap his chest plate, but Peter was quicker. He webbed both hands together, creating makeshift handcuffs. The guilt on his face was heartbreaking but he made no move to untie his father.
"I'm sorry Dad, but I can't let you take them."
"Pete you don't know what you're doing. Bucky is a criminal, he needs to be locked up. If you hide him any longer I will have to arrest you too."
"Do it then. Arrest me, see how the public will react when their precious Spiderman goes missing."
Wade stared at Peter in a mixture of shock and pride. Tony however looked ready to explode, face red with fury.
"This isn't up for discussion. Hand them over now."
"Stark we aren't going to do a thing you say. You might as well leave."
"Another word and I will open fire." Tony broke the webbing and tapped his chest. Swarms of nanobots encased his body, the sound of charging repulsors filling the apartment. He raised his hand aiming just past Peter's head.
At Belle.
Bucky's eyes darkened and a knife suddenly glistened in his palm. One look at Tony sent Wade and I into action. I pulled Bucky away from the island whilst Wade teleported across the room. They disappeared just in time as an explosion of light hit the counter, sending marble debris everywhere.
"Dammit Rogers just let me do my job." Tony yelled, aiming at me now.
"I would lower your hand if I were you." I almost didn't recognise Bucky's voice. It had dropped several octaves and was rough, gravelly even. The knife was replaced with a gun, where he had stashed it I have no idea. When Tony didn't move he fired a shot, only narrowly missing his neck.
"Next time you won't be so lucky."
"Tony you are outnumbered. Leave before someone gets hurt." Tony looked around the room finding himself surrounded on all sides. His gaze lingered on Peter who offered him nothing more than an icy glare.
Tony sighed in defeat and tapped his ear piece. "Did you really think I would come alone Rogers."
The window shattered and Natasha, Clint and Wanda dropped in. Peter webbed Clint to the wall as Bucky and I ran for Tony. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Wade disappear with Belle in his arms, only to reappear moments later alone.
The clang of metal on metal exploded in my eardrums as Bucky brought his fist down on Tony's suit, knocking him back into the wall. He went in for a second punch when Natasha launched at him. She pulled him into the centre of the room, leaving me to deal with Tony alone.
"It didn't have to go like this Steve." Tony panted, steadying himself against the counter.
"You brought this on yourself." I raised my shield and started to run towards him when a tendril of red wrapped itself around my waist, pulling me to a halt.
"Enough. You need to stop." Wanda yelled and lifted Bucky and I into the air. Wade and Peter had been handcuffed. Bucky struggled against the magic but I just accepted my fate. We wouldn't have won this fight.
"Let me down." Bucky growled glaring daggers at Wanda.
"I'm sorry but you leave me no choice." She closed her fist and suddenly my vision went dark. The last thing I heard was a muffled scream, then silence.
---
"They are going to kill us."
You know what you need to do Belle.
"No. I'm not doing anything you say."
Don't be stupid.
"I don't trust you."
To not trust me is to not trust yourself. Everyone thinks you are helpless, that you can't take care of yourself. Even Bucky. But you and I both know that is far from the truth.
"Stop it! I don't want to listen to you anymore." I clamp my hands over my ears as if that would silence the voice.
Sooner or later you will be begging for my help. Just you wait.
"Are you alright Miss." I pushed myself into the wall, eyes darting frantically around the alleyway in which Wade left me. I can still hear the fight in the building above, the occasional gunshot making my body jolt. My hands brush my cheek coming away with a glistening sheen of tears. When did I start crying?
"Do you want me to get any help?" It's a man. He has a weird symbol on his jacket - the symbol that the guards wore when I was kidnapped. Shield.
"It's okay. I don't want to hurt you Belle. You're too valuable."
How does he know my name?
...
Now you decide to shut up?
"You don't need to be afraid. Everything is going to be alright."
He produces a rag from his back pocket and pounces. He stuffs the rag in my mouth, tying it tightly around my head until it felt like the corners of my mouth were splitting. Three more men appear from behind him, this time in different uniforms.
I wouldn't be able to forget that symbol if I tried.
Hydra.
I tried to scream but the cloth muffled every noise I made, reducing it to a pathetic squeak. The men picked me up and hauled me into a van, ignoring my thrashing. The doors slammed shut leaving me alone in the darkness. I could feel the vibrations of the engine starting up, then all of a sudden I was launched forward. My head struck the floor with such force I was out like a light.
