nine || a surprise gone wrong
a/n: I'm not very proud of this chapter :,)

"Wait what do you mean you're asking Taehyun to accompany you to the Lantern Festival?!" Yeonjun said in shock as he quickly trailed behind Beomgyu. It had been four days since he hung out with the younger and he concluded that asking Taehyun to the lantern festival was the best thing.

"Because hyung. In my dreams, I threw a surprise thing for Taehyun and it worked! He said yes!"

"Why are you depending on your dreams, Beomgyu? They're just dreams and this is the reality for fucks sake!" Yeonjun groaned loudly and brushed his hand through his hair out of frustration. He had spent a few hours wasting his precious time listening to Beomgyu discuss his 'amazing' plan.

"Hey! My dreams inspire me!" Beomgyu defended and quickly approached a classroom, knocking a rhythm on the door two students opened it and looked at the two.

"Beomgyu!" One of the students, named Isa said with a smile. "We got everything you needed." The other called Yiren said. Beomgyu walked in and saw two giant buckets full of confetti. "Thank you guys, I appreciate it."

Yeonjun groaned and shook his head. "Seriously? A giant banner and buckets were full of confetti. Are you five?" He asked unamused. Beomgyu scoffed and examined everything carefully. "Don't be a downer, Yeonjun! I think it's adorable that Beomgyu will finally make a move." Isa said and nudged Beomgyu who had a reddened face.

"Don't you think it's a little selfish, Beomgyu? I thought Taehyun hated these types of surprises."

"No no! It will work!" Beomgyu said and took his phone out. The space between Taehyun and Beomgyu closed up juusssstttt a little bit. There are times when Taehyun would plain out ignore the elder or punch/slap him from time to time but overall when the two are alone Taehyun is calmer.

The sudden sound of the ten-minute bell rang, Beomgyu pouted slightly saddened that he couldn't finish set up. "Come on let's head to class before Soobin finds us again," Yeonjun said as Beomgyu just nodded. Waving goodbye to Isa and Yiren the two left the classroom, and so did the girls.

"Beomgyu-ssi is trying to surprise Taehyunie?~"

"It would be a shame if something went wrong."

The two whispered to each other as an evil smile formed on their faces.

"Hurry hurry!" Beomgyu whispered in a panic, right now it was afterschool time and he had a bunch of people helping him set up for the surprise. He was panicked as he texted Taehyun to meet the male in front of the school hallway for something important.

"Beomgyu are you sure this was the best idea?" Yeonjun mumbled watching Beomgyu style his hair. Was Beomgyu confident about this? Yes, he knew what he was doing plus he had people helping him out!

With a giant banner, two buckets of confetti, and a bouquet of peonies it was like his own little promposal but a lantern festival version!

"It's a good idea! Better than whatever the hell you did with Soobin." Beomgyu said and looked at the elder with an unamused expression. Yeonjun's face reddened up as he scoffed. "I didn't even ask Soobin yet! I-I'm asking him like a normal person!"

"Yeah—"

"Beomgyu he's coming!" Kai said and ran towards the elder. Beomgyu had asked Kai early this morning to distract Taehyun as long as he could before he let the younger go near him. Beomgyu gulped and quickly told everyone to hide.

Isa and Yiren hid in between some lockers with strings in their hands, with just one pull a shit load of confetti would come down falling around the duo.

"Okay okay go away!" He said and pushed Yeonjun away towards a hiding spot. Looking around he sighed nervously and looked down the hallway, seeing the familiar redhead walking towards the elder with a blank face.

"Hyung, what do you need?" Taehyun asked facing the elder once they were close enough. Beomgyu's throat closed up as he gulped nervously. "T-Taehyun...You'll be at the lantern festival right?" Taehyun hummed thinking for a little, he found it a little odd that the elder was asking once again if he was going to the festival. "I don't know, why?"

"Well...Kang Taehyun, my peony." Beomgyu started catching the younger off guard by the new nickname.

"I just really really wanted to ask you..."

"Will- Will you-" Beomgyu took a deep breath before a wide smile made its way onto his face as his grip on the bouquet tightened.

one.

"Will you go to the lantern festival with me—"

"HOLY SHIT!" Beomgyu suddenly yelled, Isa and Yiren had pulled the strings connecting to the confetti buckets after the keyword 'peony'. What nobody expected was instead of confetti two buckets full of blue paint poured down onto Taehyun.

Beomgyu stood there frozen, as if time had gone slow he stood there with widened eyes as Taehyun was covered head to toe with blue paint. "Taehyun!" He heard Kai yell from behind him, running towards the redhead he brushed past Beomgyu's shoulder quickly going to the younger side.

Beomgyu dropped the bouquet and shakily walked towards Taehyun who stood there with his head down, his clothes painted and soaked with the paint. No- No, It's just like seven years ago- The ravenette thought to himself as his whole expression turned into a worried one.

"T-Taehyun..."

"Don't."

Beomgyu was taken aback by the sudden cold tone, he watched the younger slowly look up and made direct eye contact with him. The expression he saw on Taehyun's face made his heartbreak. The anger, betrayal, and sadness in Taehyun's eyes were as evident as day.

"Y-You really...Don't change do you?" Taehyun said as tears slowly made their way, his eyes sparkling under the light due to the tears that formed. "W-Was 5th grade not enough for you? Beomgyu? Y-You planned this from the start! I knew I shouldn't have trusted you!"

Every word Taehyun said hit Beomgyu's heart like a stab wound. Beomgyu quickly shook his head and panicked seeing the tears fall from the younger precious eyes. "No- No! That's not what I had planned I-I swear Taehyun! I didn't mean for this to happen!" Beomgyu said and tried approaching the younger.

FLASH!

The sudden sound of a camera went off, and both boys looked behind them and saw a group of students giggling and laughing at the duo, more specifically, Taehyun. The flashing lights of cameras going off made Taehyun's eyes tear up even more.

"Taehyun!" Soobin suddenly called out pushing past the crowd, his eyes widened as he saw the scene of his little brother soaked in blue paint and Beomgyu standing there in shock.

"Choi Beomgyu!" Soobin said angrily. Beomgyu froze as his heart sank to his stomach, he couldn't feel the words coming out of his throat as Soobin approached the two. Kai stared at Beomgyu with betrayal in his eyes as Soobin carefully wiped Taehyun's face.

"I-I swear it was an accident! I didn't do this!" Beomgyu said trying to defend himself, yet it was too late. He watched the three walk past him towards the exit of the school.

No no no! Please not again! I just got you and now it's already over?

Beomgyu quickly ran towards the trio and grabbed Taehyun's wrist not caring if paint got all over him. "Taehyun please I swear—"

CRACK!

Beomgyu stumbled back hard and fell directly on his back, his cheek throbbed with pain as he looked up with trembling eyes. Holding onto his cheek he couldn't help but feel the tears slowly trickle down his face.

Taehyun had punched him.

All his hard work for the past weeks shattered immediately as his surprise went down right wrong. Yeonjun ran up to Beomgyu and crouched next to him in worry.

"Never fucking talk to me."

Those five words made Beomgyu's world shatter and collapse as his heart felt like it had just broken into multiple pieces. He watched Taehyun leave the school hopelessly as his eyes filled with tears.

"What the hell?! Isa, Yiren! I thought there was confetti in the buckets?!" Yeonjun yelled at the two angrily who stood there in shock. "N-No I swear there was confetti!" Isa said trying to comprehend everything.

Beomgyu's world went mute, he couldn't see anything as his eyes blurred with tears. All the things he worked for and the trust he tried building up with Taehyun again shattered there.

"Beomgyu-ah! Don't cry!" A voice suddenly said approaching the four, Beomgyu turned his head and immediately glared at who was walking toward him. "Eunha, don't tell me you did that..." Yeonjun scoffed with disbelief.

"What's the wrong Beommie? I thought we were just planning Taehyunie again! I mean he deserves it for all the times he injured you." Eunha scoffed and tried to get closer to Beomgyu.

"Y-You ruined everything! All that fucking trust and shit I built up with Taehyun is gone because of you!" Beomgyu yelled at her catching her off guard. He couldn't handle seeing anyone anymore. The anger in his mind was too much for him to handle, so he took off and ran towards the exit.

"Nice fucking job dipshit, are you still salty because Beomgyu rejected you in 7th because of his crush on Taehyun?" Yeonjun scoffed exposing the latter, Eunha stood there shocked and her face turned slightly red from embarrassment.

"What is going on here?!" Mr. Hyun said loudly. He walked through the crowds of students and saw the mess in the hallway. Blue paint splattered everywhere as the peonies beomgyu got for Taehyun were spread across the floor.

"Who did this?!"

All three students pointed at Eunha whose face turned a darker shade of red. "I hope you're fucking satisfied," Yeonjun grumbled and walked the other way, listening to Mr. Hyun scold Eunha as Isa and Yiren managed to swiftly sneak away.

He just prays that Beomgyu and Taehyun will be okay.

Beomgyu's attempts to try and contact the younger failed miserably. It had been a few hours since the incident and it seemed that every call and text he would send Taehyun never went through.

He didn't want to believe it but it seems like the younger had been purposely ignoring him. He didn't want to give up so easily and forget Taehyun, he was so close to achieving his goal again that was taken away too soon.

Minutes turned into hours, hours turning into days, and Beomgyu's hope was breaking one by one. The lantern festival was just in four more days and he didn't know what to do.

His band mates noticed the heavy change in the elder, they knew what happened. Almost everyone in the school knew what Eunha had done. There of course had to be a group of people who would make fun of Taehyun every day.

Beomgyu's heart broke when he barely saw Taehyun in the hallways, and whenever he did he would be straight up ignored or pushed away by Kai.

So there he was, sitting sadly in his bed after a long day of practice with his band mates. He couldn't handle the pain of not being able to be next to or near Taehyun anymore.

The attention Taehyun gave him by punching or yelling at him made him happy, but now being full-on ignored by the younger? His heart broke. "I can't with this anymore." He mumbled tiredly while staring at him and Taehyun's unanswered messages.

Beomgyu angrily tossed his phone to the side and laid down in his bed, covering his face with a pillow he closed his eyes and slowly drifted to sleep, just hoping things will get better. But it seemed like his hope was slowly running out.

-

Beomgyu slowly opened his eyes, quickly sitting up he looked around and noticed that the place he was in wasn't his own. Freaking out he fell off the couch and groaned loudly.

"Hey! When I said you can stay over that doesn't mean scream like you're dying!"

A new voice.

Beomgyu slowly turned around as his eyes widened even more. "Y-Yeonjun hyung?" He stuttered, surprised to see someone else other than Taehyun in his dream world. Yeonjun looked way older, his hair was longer and was dyed back to black instead of his bright lemon color.

"W-Why am I here? Where's Taehyun?!" Beomgyu asked and quickly stood up. Yeonjun gave him an odd look and slowly walked up to him. "Beomgyu are you okay?"

Beomgyu looked at the elder confused. "What?" He asked. Yeonjun's face went blank as his eyes were slowly replaced with a saddened ones. "You and Taehyun got into a fight— A really bad one, you came over two days ago crying..."

Beomgyu's eyes widened as his intestines twisted in the worst way possible. He fell to his knees as his eyes went blank, he felt hopeless now. If Taehyun and he are fighting in a dream, does that mean it's a sign that everything was permanently broken?

"Don't you dare start crying on my expensive carpet!" Yeonjun scolded the younger and dragged his ass back up. Yeonjun slapped Beomgyu lightly catching the male off guard.

"Get a hold of yourself! This isn't you! You're not the Beomgyu I know!" Yeonjun said holding onto his shoulders a little harshly. Beomgyu winced at the pain and stared at the elder with wide eyes.

"Run to him! Fucking get out and run to him Beomgyu! You know he still loves you no matter what so stop being a pussy and run to Taehyun!"

It was like a fire itself lit inside of Beomgyu's heart. The realization came to Beomgyu as the words dream Yeonjun said were right.

"Run!"

-

Beomgyu's eyes shot open as a long loud gasp came out of him, sitting up in his bed he quickly grabbed his phone as the time read '4:50 AM'. He still had time, no matter what he was going to win Taehyun back.

Quickly shuffling out of his bed he ran out of his bedroom door, his mother was still awake. "B-Beomgyu why are you awake?!" She asked shocked seeing her son suddenly bolt down the stairs.

Beomgyu didn't answer as he was in a rush. Messily putting his slippers on he opened the door and paused seeing the heavy thunderstorm outside. "Where are you going— Beomgyu!" His mother yelled after him as the male started running.

If I just keep running I'll make it there, it's only twenty-five minutes. I can make it.

Beomgyu thought to himself and raised his arm to shield himself from the harsh rain. He kept running, no matter how tired or sore his legs became he ran in the direction of Taehyun's house desperately.

"Fuck!" Beomgyu groaned loudly as he slipped onto one of the puddles below him. His arms ached as he felt scratches form. Slowly getting up he looked in front of him and could see the blurry outline of Taehyun's house.

"T-Taehyun!" He said loudly and ran towards the house. Quickly hopping up the stairs he knocked on the door frantically. His heart was beating loudly as it seemed the rain got heavier, making his soaked hair swirl around wildly.

"Wh-What the fuck?! Beomgyu?!" Soobin said in shock when he opened the door. He met eyes with Beomgyu who had scratches all over his cheek and arms, his face was pale and his lips were trembling slightly. "Why are you—"

"I need to see Taehyun."

"What?! Hell no!" Soobin scoffed and tried closing the door on the ravenette who quickly stopped him. "I-It wasn't me who poured the paint! It was Eunha! I swear!" Beomgyu pleaded desperately.

Soobin stared at him for a second before hearing the crashing sound of lightning echo out. A long sigh left the male's lips as he opened the door wider. "Get in before you die of hypothermia."

Beomgyu thanked Soobin ten times and quickly got into the house, the warm air instantly wrapping around his cold body made him feel a little bit more at ease. "Take this," Soobin said and tossed Beomgyu a blanket.

"He's upstairs, the third bedroom down the hall." Soobin dryly replied, "You better not fuck up." He said as if it was a threat.

Beomgyu quickly nodded and headed upstairs, going the direction Soobin had told him he softly knocked on the younger bedroom door with a shaky hand. "T-T-Taehyun! Please open the door, it's m-me Beomgyu."

No answer.

Beomgyu knocked again desperately waiting for the door to open, he was thankful that Soobin let him inside but now he felt anxious that the younger wasn't responding and still ignoring him.

"Get out."

Beomgyu's heart clenched hearing Taehyun's muffled voice from the other side of the door. "Taehyun please," Beomgyu spoke as his voice cracked. "It wasn't my idea to pour paint on you, it was Eunha! Please let me in."

"I can't trust you anymore Beomgyu!"

"Give me one more chance, please," Beomgyu whispered desperately. After waiting a few more minutes of complete silence. He slowly gave up, backing away from the door his lips trembled even more as he felt a part of him fade away. So slowly walking away from Taehyun's bedroom door he looked down trying to hold his tears.

Click!

Beomgyu instantly turned around and saw Taehyun standing in the doorframe with a blank look. Yet he saw the red puffiness and black eye bags on his eyes. "Fine." Taehyun huffed out as Beomgyu quickly ran back to the younger.

"Please believe me when I say pouring paint on you wasn't my intention," Beomgyu said and closed the door behind him for privacy.

"I know."

"Quit with the dry replies Taehyun! I want to be closer to you, I've been calling you darling for years to try and get you to stop hating me but you just continue it!"

"That's because ever since 5th grade you've embarrassed me non-stop!"

"So tell me!"

"How am I supposed to know that things embarrass you when you don't tell me anything Taehyun! All I know is in 5th grade I made that mistake and I regret it! But you've been ignoring me and shit ever since!"

Taehyun stood there as his eyes brimmed with slight tears. "You want to know why I can't fucking stand you? Fine." He said and sat down on his bed.
