Chapter 3:

"Rise and shine sleepy head!"

Ugh... Mom? I moved out of my parents house when I turned eighteen. I just groaned. I wasn't going to listen anyway.

"Come ooonnnnn. Get up!" I rolled out and put a pillow over my head to block out the annoying voice.

It was too loud for my hears and I pulled up the blankets, wishing it away.

Shoosh! There went my comfy blanket. Uggghhhhh.... "goway."

"Morning to you too sunshine. Now its time to get up. I made coffee...."

I looked out from under my pillow enough to see Stacy hold a warm mug in her hand. I feebly reached for it before she withdrew her hand out of reach. She laughed. "Nope, you gotta get your own sweetheart." She emphasized sipping her coffee and moaning in delight. "It's soooo goood!"

Rolling over I glared at her as hard as I could. I probably just looked like I was squinting. "You know, I really don't like you in the mornings. Your evil and loud." I grumbled. She sipped again, sitting on the bed and patted my thigh.

"No hun, I'm talking normally. Your hungover - bad."

"I still don't like you." Holding my head, I closed my eyes and leaned back. Pounding headache? Check. Sensitivity to light and sound? Check. Horrible urge for coffee? Check. Damn... I was hungover. I peeked one eye open to look at Stace.

"Yeah, I know." She could read me like a book. "Come get some coffee and I'll try to tell you what I remember." With that, she left.

I clumsily got out of bed and looked around. There was some stuff on the floor but it seemed at least we didn't destroy the room. Looking down at myself, I realized I was still in my clothes from last night. Figures.

Finally making my way out to the kitchen, Stacy had a cup already poured for me. We sat down on the couch with our mugs and looked each other over. We must have had one hell of a night.

"So... who should go first?" I sipped my coffee and was hoping she would get the hint that she should.

"I think I remember some... but I'm not completely sure about everything. We got majorly drunk last night girl."

"I see that. Umm... okay lets start from the beginning." Did I remember the beginning? I tried to think back.

"I do. We went to Marciano's and you made me buy you a drink."

"Oh yeah, then you went off getting guy's numbers...."

"So that explains why my purse is filled with paper." I couldn't help but laugh at that.

"What happened after that?" Sipping my coffee and fumbling with the cup.

"Thats where I go a little fuzzy..." Stacy looked at me puzzled.

I looked down at myself again. "Hey, I'm going to go take a shower okay?"

"Sure. Maybe we'll remember more soon."

"I sure hope so." I said while I got up and headed towards the bathroom.

Thankfully I had some clothes I had left here before that I could change into. Snug blue top and jeans, at least I was comfortable. The shower had helped and I was starting to feel better. Walking back out into the kitchen, I sat on a barstool at the counter while she poured another cup of coffee. Looking at me, her expression was grim.

"I remember why I took you to Marciano's. I'm so sorry."

I thought back to why we had went. A few seconds past and I faintly recalled something about a job. Oh wait! She took me to meet some guy she dated for a job interview. Makes sense now. I must have had a look of realization on my face because she didn't bother to explain.

"Um Emily? I'm sooo sorry hun but Xander called this morning to tell me that he can't hire you. Something about a new condition in the contract his father let the secretary sign... so... he said he doesn't have the power to fire her. I'm really sorry. Don't worry but me and Xander are completely over. I don't want to be with someone who is going to let me and my best friend down. Plus, I think he might have a thing for that secretary girl... ugh, men." She rambled and rolled her eyes. I knew a job interview like the one we had wouldn't get me a job at Hardcastle Enterprises, but it was still a little disappointing. I knew Stacy tried to help me, in her own messed up way.

I hugged her for her efforts and for her ability to forget men so quickly.

"It's not your fault Stace, you tried. Thank you." My comfort didn't work because she still wasn't smiling. "Smile babes, you'll get over him. He wasn't even worth your time."

She laughed now. "Oh I know he wasn't. It's just... I hate to ask you for a favor now."

"Anything."

"Do you think you could pick my car up from Marciano's? You would be a huge lifesaver! I got called in for some afternoon meeting and Sean is on his way here to pick me up. I probably won't be out before they start charging for parking so would you please?"

"Sure, no problem." I knew that charging for parking another day would cost almost equivalent to an arm and a leg. Taking the bus over and walking a few blocks wouldn't kill me.

"I love you girl!" She hugged me tightly and I had to gently push her off, reminding her I wasn't fully recovered from my hangover just yet. "Oops! Sorry." Ten minutes later, she handed me the keys pass while she ran out the down for her ride.

Two bus transfers, six blocks, and a little over an hour later, I arrived at Marciano's. The valet had told me that in order to get the keys for Stacy's car, I had to go into the lounge where they were kept and turn in the key pass.

Bypassing the restaurant and heading straight for the lounge, it was still too early for there to be anyone who was as wasted as we were last night. Only about four other people were there, two couple taking among themselves. I hoped that none of the people were there last night and could recognize me. A single bartender stood cleaning behind the bar, waiting to serve people.

"Excuse me?"

"What can I get ya miss?" Looking down I guess he didn't really see me holding the key pass.

"Um... nothing. Just need my keys please."

He looked up at me, ready to take the pass, when he stopped and smiled. I got to see his face. He was pretty attractive for a bartender. Did I know him? I don't believe I did.

He chuckled quietly to himself while he took the key pass and went into another room to get the key. I walked down to the end of the counter to meet him here. Besides, it was further away from the couples enjoying their drinks and conversation.

Returning, he still had a cocky smile on his face. Great... he must really get a laugh out of patrons who have to come back for their vehicles. Now this was embarrassing. He started to hand the keys to me, but pulled back when I reached for them. Grr it was starting to annoy me when people did that.

"Sorry ma'am. I'll need to see ID first."

"What?? I'm not getting a drink. What for?" This was really frustrating me but I pulled my wallet out of my purse anyway, showing my drivers license.

"We have a strict policy to return the keys to the owner, and from what I just saw, your no..." he looked at the paper attached to the key, "Stacy Hendrickson."

I needed those keys!!! Shifting my weight to the right so I was leaning on my hip I gave him my best "don't mess with me buster!" stance. "I'm her friend and she asked me to retrieve her car. So may I please have the keys now?"

Bartender man just laughed and winked at me. "Don't worry, sugar, I remember you so I'm sure I can let it slide this one time. Careful with all those man issues and drinking though, for a feisty thing like you, you might have to watch who your with sweetheart. He ain't worth your time but don't blame all of the male gender for an ass like that, some of us ain't half bad."

I must have been a sight. My mouth hung open as he handed me the keys, laughing as he walked back to the other end of the counter. Uh no. He must have been the one serving last night. What the hell did I say to him???

I quickly walked to the other side of the counter where he was. "Excuse me? What did you just say?"

"You heard me sugar." He winked at me again. Who did this man think he was?!?

"No I actually don't believe I did. Listen mister, I don't know you are or what I might have said to you, but you don't know me or anything so I would prefer you keep your comments to yourself." I started to turn around and walk away.

"Aaron."

I stopped and faced him.
