Chapter 29

A/N: As you guys must have guessed, I fell asleep... 😂😂😂 And then since I had a early flight to catch (Holidays!!! Yay!!!), I woke up in a state of panic and rushed the whole day through... I intended to post this earlier (I wrote like a whole chunk of it on the plane) but I didn't manage to... But here it is now!!!

***

Sunny was jumping with happiness the moment Ayesha left. He still had a chance! A very big chance!

He couldn't help but wonder what Ayesha wanted to tell him. He prayed his hardest that whatever Ayesha may say, it would only be good things. However, that could wait till after the show. Sunny told himself that he had to focus. There was a show he needed to do and he can't be distracted. Everyone had worked hard and it wouldn't be fair to them.

Sunny changed into his costume and begun doing his vocal exercises while warning up. He then did a speed run of all his parts while the make up artist worked on him. It was just a bit of powder and lip balm, according to the makeup artist, just to make him look more refreshed and flawless.

"There done," the make up artist told him. "How is it?"

"Great," Sunny lied. Honestly, Sunny couldn't tell the difference. "If you don't mind, I have somewhere to be so..."

Sunny shoved the makeup supplies into the makeup artist's hands and literally pushed him out of his changing room.

"The room is locked as long as I'm not around," Sunny informed the makeup artist as he locked the door. "If you leave anything behind, come and get it during half time."

He didn't let the makeup artist reply. Instead, he just walked to their meeting point. There were people already fully dressed fully on their makeup waiting for Rahul Oberoi and the rest to arrive.

Sunny's eyes lit up the moment he spotted Ayesha and Sonia in their full costume and makeup.

Wow, he thought to himself. Ayesha looked amazing, so different.

Sunny shot a smile in her direction and she responded with a gesture that meant he only looked decent at best. He laughed.

Suddenly, someone threw an arm around Sunny's neck, pulling him into an one armed neck lock. Sunny looked to the side only to realize it was Kabir.

"Stop flirting," Kabir said. "We have a show in less than half an hour. Stay focused."

"Yes sir," Sunny choked out.

Kabir then let Sunny go and gave him a few hard pats (that felt more like slaps) on his back. Vishal and Arjun soon arrived and hung by their other two band mates.

After a while, Rahul sir came and the group was complete.

"I just want to tell everyone that you have done a very good job leading up till tonight," Rahul announced. "We had a lot of ups and downs as well as our fair share of problems but that is nothing compared to what we're going to do in half an hours time. I would like to thank everybody especially the dancers for doing such a good job, learning all the moves in such little time as well as Ayesha and Abhay for stepping up in the last minute as choreographers. And if VKAS ever have another tour, Kabir, please stop firing people."

Everyone laughed, including Kabir.

"I'll try, sir," Kabir said.

"As you know," Rahul continued. "It's a full house tonight. In fact, it will be a full house for the next three nights. So, let's go out there and give the audience a show they will never forget."

"Have a good show," Sunny chanted. "Have a good show, have a good show."

"Have a good show," Kabir then joined in.

Slowly, everyone started joining in and they continued it for a few more times before shouting at the last one.

"Have a good show!"

"Thank you guys!" Rahul shouted as he left.

"Ok everyone!" Ayesha called out, getting everyone's attention. "I just want to say you guys have been the best team anyone could ever ask for and you guys are just amazing! It's ok if you forget any steps just go out there and have fun!"

"Yeah!" Fakhir shouted and everyone cheered.

Soon, the stage manager took over and begun giving out instructions to people and getting them to their places.

"Guys," Arjun whispered shouted. "Are you nervous?"

"Why should I be?" Kabir laughed it off. However, everyone knew Kabir was bluffing. His voice was a pitch higher and he was physically shaking.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen!" They heard Rahul's voice ring out.

"T minus 3 minutes," Kabir whispered.

"Shut up," Vishal scolded. "You're making everyone nervous."

Kabir kept quiet throughout the announcement and waited for their cue to start.

Once Rahul had finished, all the lights on stage slowly faded off.

"Ready?" Kabir asked.

"Ready," Vishal replied as the others just nodded.

Kabir gave the stage manager a thumbs up and the mics came on.

Their backs were facing the audience and a spot light projected on the white screen behind them. The crowd went wild, cheering and screaming for them.

Everyone took a deep breath and started singing.

Kabir, Vishal (Arjun and Sunny harmonizing):
Taareef Karoon Kya Uski
Jissne Tumhe Banaaya

This was the moment the boys had been waiting for. As the screen was being raised, the four of them turned around and walked towards the audience.

The audience cheered even louder and wide smiles spread across the boys' face. The music started playing and the dancers appeared. Sunny shot Fakhir, Ayesha and Sonia smiles as they went to their first positions. He even managed to give Abhay a high five as Abhay passed him.

It was a great start to such an ambitious show.

***

Half-time.

As Ayesha planned for the boys to disappear backstage first before the dancers came in, the boys waited by the wings to watch. The curtains came down and the dancers flocked in. Sonia who was so excited launched herself at Sunny. Luckily, he caught her and steadied himself.

"Woah," Sunny chuckled. "Calm down!"

"That was so amazing!" Sonia exclaimed.

"I know," Sunny replied, excited. "I wonder where's Ayesha? Ayesha?!"

"Ayesha!" Sonia beckoned her over.

Ayesha held out her hand and told her to wait a while as she was deep on discussion with Abhay.

"I guess she's a bit busy," Sunny told Sonia. "We better not disturb her."

"Ok," Sonia shrugged as she left Sunny to change into her next costume.

Sunny too watched her for a few moments before deciding that he would talk to her later. He then went into his changing room to change. After a while, the makeup artist appeared to do some touch up (which he never understood why).

Suddenly, he heard a knock on the door. Before he could answer, the door opened to reveal Kabir.

"I told you he's in here," Kabir said to an unknown person outside his door.

Kabir entered and sat behind him.

"Who's that?" Sunny asked.

"Stage manager," Kabir replied. "You're up next for Aadat Se Majboor so you better hurry up."

"Done," the makeup artist said. This time the makeup artist had learn his lesson, taking only the necessary. He quickly scurried out of Sunny's changing room before he could get kicked out.

"Come on," Sunny urged Kabir to get up. "Let's go!"

Kabir reluctantly got up and followed Sunny out of the room.  They then made their way to the stage to check the positions of their things. As the curtains were still down there were a few dancers goofing around on stage.

"Stop fooling around here," Kabir scolded them. " If you fall through the curtains, only God can save you from Rahul and Ayesha's fury."

The lot of them quickly apologized and left. However, Kabir doubt they would remember it tomorrow.

Kabir noticed Ayesha making her way onto the stage.

"That was so amazing," she told Kabir.

"I know!" Kabir exclaimed. "And it's all because of you and Abhay!"

"Thank you," Ayesha said and hugged her brother. Suddenly, she noticed that Sunny was there too.
Ayesha released Kabir and went over to Sunny.

"Do you see what an amazing job you're doing here?" Sunny said, persuading Ayesha to stay. "You shouldn't leave."

"Sunny," Ayesha laughed. "I have collage to attend."

"I'm going to miss having you dance right in front of me," Sunny told her. "At least if I forget my moves, I can watch you."

"I'm sure you don't have to resort to that," she replied. "I thought only Arjun needed help."

"Can't you leave later?" Sunny asked. "Like in the middle of the tour?"

"Let me think about it," she answered.

"Everyone!" The stage manager called out from backstage. "Places!"

"We better get going," she told Sunny.

"Yeah," he agreed. "Have fun up there, Kabir. I'll see you in a while."

Ayesha then led Sunny to the lift where he was supposed to appear from. She took her place, her back pressed against his. Ayesha couldn't help but smile. Sonia waved to her as Sonia walked passed to take her place in front of Sunny. Ayesha waved back.

The announcement went off, asking the audience to return to their seats.

"Did you see Shreya di in the front row with her baby?" Sunny asked. "She's so adorable."

"She's hardly a baby," Ayesha corrected. "She's 6. But yeah I saw them. I'm so glad Shreya di changed her mind."

"I can't believe she's leaving on Monday," Sunny sighed. "It's too soon."

"Yeah," Ayesha replied. "I know, right?"

"Maybe you guys can visit her in London after the tour?" Sonia told them.

"Or better yet," Sunny suggested. "Have a tour there."

"You guys better hire me if you're planning to do that," Ayesha added quickly just as the intro of the song started. Although they weren't appearing till the chorus, they had to keep silent in case the mic picked up any noise.

Sunny gave Ayesha a nudge and she turned to face him. He put two thumbs up and plastered a wide smile across his face, wishing her good luck. Ayesha waved him off and returned to her original position. She could feel Sunny's heart beating quicker than usual. Underneath all that oozing confidence, he was actually nervous. Ayesha gave Sunny's free hand a reassuring squeeze and he returned it.

Suddenly, the lift jerked slightly as it started it's ascend. Sunny held on tighter to Ayesha's hand as well as onto Sonia in case they might loose their balance and fall.

Here we go!

***

"Thank you everybody!" Rahul announced to a screaming audience. "And have a good night!"

Everyone had big smiles plastered across their faces as they exited to the wings. They had successfully completed the first show of the tour and that too without any mistakes. Everyone was hugging each other, despite being sweaty and having makeup running down their faces.

The stage manager had to force them to their respective changing rooms before anyone was willing to leave.

Sunny went into his and quickly  changed out of his costume. Suddenly, he heard a knock on the door.

"Come in," he said.

The door opened and Ayesha crept in, still in her costume.

"I'm here as promised," Ayesha said. When she realized that Sunny's upper half was bare and he was only wearing shorts, she immediately turned around to face the door. "Oh my gosh, Sunny! Put on some clothes!"

"Why?" Sunny taunted. "It's my room."

"Then I guess we'll continue the conversation another time," Ayesha replied and walked towards the door.

Sunny ran past her and blocked the door. Ayesha resorted to closing her eyes. Does this boy know no shame?

"I'll go put on some clothes," he said. "Just give me a minute."

Sunny grabbed the nearest shirt he could find and put it on.

"You can look now," Sunny told her.

Ayesha opened her eyes slowly and turned around. Finally!

"So," Sunny said. "What were you going to tell me before Kabir interrupted? Something about trusting me with your feelings?"

"Haan (Yes)," Ayesha said, nervously. This was as bad as the time she told him about her crush. "Now that we know how we feel about each other, I just want to know of we can take things really slowly? I'm trusting you with my feelings, Sunny, eventhough I don't know what they are yet."

"So what does that mean?" Sunny asked.

"I need some time to figure things out," she explained. "To make sure that whatever this is, it's real. I don't want to wake up some day and realize that I never truly loved you. It wouldn't be fair to any of us then. I want to date you when I'm ready. Can I trust you to respect my decision and feelings for now?"

"You can," Sunny replied. " Ayesha, I want you to know that I'll always be there if you need me. Whether as a friend or as someone more."

Ayesha threw her arms around Sunny.

"Thanks," she told him.

Sunny hesitantly hugged her back.

"Anytime."
