"Wow," Kabir said. "I never expected this to come from you."
Sunny ran his fingers through his hair, nervously.
"Me neither," Vishal echoed.
"Expected what?" Arjun asked as he entered the studio. He had just came back from checking on Ayesha.
Kabir waited until Arjun was near enough before he revealed Sunny's secret.
"That's..." Arjun said, looking for the correct word to describe the surprise. "Good? I only thought bhaiya (brother) was capable of this."
"Shut up," Sunny said. "It's for our next album."
Sunny snatched the song sheets back from Arjun and walked away from the boys.
Everyone was shocked at how deep the song was. In Kabir's entire life, he has never seen Sunny write anything like that.
"Are you OK?" Kabir asked.
"Haan (Yes)," Sunny replied. "I'm perfectly fine."
"Play it for us," Arjun said. He went over to the instruments and pulled out Kabir's guitar and a stand. Kabir dragged a very reluctant Sunny and forced him to play. Unfortunately, he only managed to strum a few notes before he was interrupted by the door opening.
"What is this, yaar?" Arjun sulked. "You just killed the mood."
Ayesha sashayed into the studio with a glare directed at Arjun.
"I left something in Kabir's car," she replied. "I was just coming over to get the keys."
Kabir took out the keys from his pocket and handed them to Ayesha.
"No taking my car for a spin," Kabir warned.
Sunny couldn't help but sputter out a chuckle. Ayesha was right, Sunny did sound a little like Kabir earlier.
"What's so funny?" Kabir and Ayesha asked simultaneously.
"Nothing," he answered. "I just remembered something someone said today morning." His eyes fixed on Ayesha.
Ayesha blushed.
"So," Ayesha said. "What is this?"
She moved to stand behind Sunny to read the score.
"Nothing," Sunny replied as he quickly took the scores off the stand.
"New song," Kabir revealed as he took the scores from Sunny and put it back on the stand. Now, they looked more like crumpled papers now than a newly written song.
"Show me," Ayesha chirped, excitedly. "You know what, never mind. Just play it."
"That was what he was doing before you interrupted," Arjun chided.
Ayesha ignored Arjun and sat directly in front of Sunny like an eager child.
How was Sunny supposed to play the song in front of her? He wanted the song to be a surprise when it came out on the next album.
Sunny cleared his throat and positioned the guitar properly. He took a deep breath before he strummed the first note. Sunny was hardly ever this nervous.
Sunny:
Kya Kabhi Savera... Ha Ha
Laata Hai Andhera... Ha Ha
Sookhi Siyahi
Deti Hai Gawaahi
Sadiyon Puraani
Aisi Ik Kahaani
Reh Gayi, Reh Gayi
Ankahee...
Ankahee...
Kya Kabhi Savera... Ha Ha
Laata Hai Andhera... Ha Ha
Sookhi Siyahi
Deti Hai Gawaahi
Sadiyon Puraani
Aisi Ik Kahaani
Reh Gayi, Reh Gayi
Ankahee...
Ankahee...
Kya Kabhi
Bahaar Bhi
Peshgi laati hai
Aane Wale Patjhar Ki...
O... Baarishein Naaraazagi Bhi Jataa Jaati Hain
Kabhi Kabhi Ambar Ki...
Patte Jo Shaakhon Se Toote
Bewajah Toh Nahin Roothe Hain Sabhi...
Khwabon Ka Jharokha... Ha Ha
Sach Tha Ya Dhokha.. Ha Ha
Maatha Sehla Ke
Nindiya Churaai
Sadiyon Puraani
Aisi Ik Kahaani
Reh Gayi, Reh Gayi
Ankahee...
O Ankahee...
Everyone just stared at Sunny, their mouth hung in disbelief. Sunny looked up and saw everyone's faces.
"What?" Sunny asked.
"That. Was. Amazing!" Ayesha squealed. "I never knew you had it in you."
He smiled at her.
"Thanks," he muttered.
"Kuch toh gadbad hai (Something is wrong)," Kabir remarked. "Pyaar ho gaya kya (Are you in love)?"
Sunny just smiled in response.
"Ok," Sunny announced. "Show's over! Let's get back to business."
Ayesha got off the floor and immediately left the dance studio with a slight bounce in her step. Once the door closed behind her, Arjun immediately grabbed hold of Sunny's arm.
"If you break Ayesha's heart again," Arjun threatened in a low voice. "I'll break your face."
Arjun then shoved Sunny away, a sinister smile on his face.
Was he that obvious? Sunny thought to himself. How in the world did Arjun know about it? It can't be or else, Tara or Kabir would know about it too.
Sunny couldn't help but wonder who else knows his secret.
"What is it called?" Vishal asked, jolting Sunny from his thoughts.
"What's what called?" Sunny asked in response. He didn't manage to register the question.
"The song," Vishal explained.
"Oh," Sunny replied. Of course. "I don't know. I haven't thought of a name yet."
"I see," Vishal answered. "It sounds good. I'm glad you're willing to try something that's not rap and harmonizing."
Sunny laughed.
"I'm glad you finally realize how talented I actually am," he smirked.
The day went by as usual and to everyone's delight, Abhay and Ayesha completed the choreography for the whole show.
"From tomorrow onwards," Ayesha announced. "We will be running the full show. We will be bumping in our first venue on next week Wednesday and there's going to be a lot of work to do. So, I want everyone to be well rested until the end of our tour. Thank you everybody!"
Ayesha and Abhay dismissed everyone and they begun to disperse. Sunny pulled Ayesha aside and gave her the music sheet of his new song.
"Can I ask you for a favour?" Sunny asked her. "Can you help me name the song? I'm not a sentimental type so..."
"Say no more," Ayesha replied. "I'll be honoured to help you."
"You're the best," Sunny said.
"Tu kabhi nahi sudhrega (You'll never change)," Ayesha commented.
"Excuse me, Ayesha?" Abhay said as he crept up from behind them. "Can I talk to you for a second?"
"Sure," Ayesha replied. "I'll see you around, Sunny."
"Yeah," he muttered as he let Abhay lead Ayesha away. "See you."
I have to do something about that Abhay, Sunny told himself mentally. If not, he's going to end up stealing Ayesha.
From the corner of his eyes, he suddenly spotted Sonia. Sunny was tempted to tell her but he was afraid of Sonia telling Ayesha.
Pyaar kiya toh darna kya (I have fallen in love, so what is there to fear)!
Sunny gathered his courage and marched up to Sonia.
"Sonia," he said, his voice slightly stronger than usual. "I have something to tell you."
"Toh batao na (Then say it)," she answered.
"It's a little private," he informed her. "Can I talk to you alone? It's about Ayesha."
Sonia turned her attention to Fakhir.
"Fakhir," she ordered. "If you reach before I do, tell bhaiya (brother) that Sunny will be driving me home. We have some important business to discuss." She then eyed Sunny weirdly. "Chalo (Let's go), we'll talk in the car."
Sunny nodded and grabbed his things. After saying goodbye to everyone, Sunny then led Sonia to his car.
"So," Sonia started the moment they were in the solidarity of Sunny's car. "What is this private matter about my best friend you wish to discuss?"
"First you have to promise me that you won't tell Ayesha," he warned. "Or Di... Or her brothers, or your brother. Basically, just don't tell anyone."
"Ok," she said. "I promise. Now tell me what's going on before I go crazy."
Sunny pulled out from the parking lot and merged into the evening crawl.
"IlikeAyesha," Sunny blurted out.
"What?" Sonia asked. Did she hear it correctly? Did Sunny just say...
"I like Ayesha," Sunny repeated, slower.
It took Sonia a while before she fully processed what Sunny had just revealed. Her eyes widen in excitement.
"Please say something," Sunny pleaded, a look of desperation and lost plastered on his face. "You're seriously freaking me out... "
"You like Ayesha?" Sonia had to reconfirmed what she heard. "Like love like?"
"I don't know about love yet," Sunny answered truthfully. "But I really like her. I have feelings for her."
A loud, screeching squeal suddenly erupted from the passenger seat.
Sunny tool his hands off the steering wheel for a minute to cover his ears before quickly putting them back, in fear of getting into an accident.
"Sonia!" Sunny shouted above the squeal. "Are you trying to get us killed?"
"Sorry," she said. "I got too excited. I can't believe this... After all these years... Ayesha will go crazy when she hears about this!"
"No hearing about this," Sunny reminded her. "If there's anyone she's going to hear it from, it's going to be me."
"Then why are you telling me this?" Sonia asked, annoyed by the fact that she's got gossip and she can't share.
"I need your help," he admitted.
"What help?" Sonia questioned.
"Does Ayesha like Abhay?" Sunny asked.
"As a friend," she replied. "After working together, she hardly talks to about anything else other than work. I suddenly regret joining your tour when she asked. Not that she's a bad person, she just... Not my Ayesha anymore when we're working together."
Sunny nodded.
"But you can help me right?" Sunny asked.
"I'll help you if you play fair," she told Sonia. "I don't know if Abhay really likes her. It's just that he's incredibly nice and they spend a lot of time together."
Sunny nodded, taking in this new piece of information.
Yes! He still has a chance!
