The next day, Kabir arrived at his parent's house 15 minutes earlier than usual in hopes that he could try to convince Ayesha to choreograph the tour for him. Unfortunately, when he arrived, he had missed her by a few minutes as Ayesha had already left the house with a friend. Disappointed (and terrified for his life), Kabir made his way to the studio with Arjun.
Throughout the entire journey, the only thing that went through Kabir's mind were excuses, apologies and ways to make sure he wouldn't get into trouble with the band's manager, Rahul Oberoi. Suddenly, firing the choreographer over such trivial matters seemed like a terrible idea. He could have just rejected her advances and tolerated working with her just for this tour.
Oh well...
As if to make things worse for Kabir, the moment he arrived at the talent office, the receptionist informed him that Mr. Oberoi wanted to see him urgently. Putting on a brave front, he told Arjun to head to dance studio 5 and to wait for him there. Arjun replied with a shrug and walked off.
Once Arjun was out of sight, Kabir took a few deep breaths to calm his nerves before making his way to Rahul's office.
It's going to be alright. Kabir mentally comforted himself. Just say you're sorry and admit that you were wrong then accept whatever that comes your way. It's easy, see... Sorry Rahul sir, galti hui. I shapath, main aise galti kabhi dubara nahi hogi. (I made a mistake. I promise, I'll never make such a mistake ever again.) I'll do whatever you say. No, I sound like a despo case... Can we come to a mutual agreement on the next course of action? Kabir laughed. I sound like dad and his business partners. Kya karoon... Kya karoon? (What to do... What to do?)
Before he knew it, Kabir was already standing in front of Rahul's office. He could hear muffled conversations coming from inside. Judging by the tone and seriousness of the voices, it sounded like Rahul was interviewing a prospective candidate (and luckily for the candidate, the outcome seemed positive). Kabir braced himself for the onslaught as he raised his hand to knock on the door.
Knock! Knock!
"Come in," Kabir heard Rahul replied.
Kabir nervously pushed the door open and made his way in. His glance landed directly on Rahul who instead of having a scowl, the manager had a wide smile plastered across his face.
It's probably just an act, Kabir thought to himself. He instantly lowered his gaze and stared at the carpeted floor. I'm so screwed!
"Ah Kabir," Rahul begun. "Just the man I wanted to see."
Kabir nodded but kept his gaze fixed on the floor.
"I have to admit," Rahul continued. "I was very sceptical about your suggestion yesterday but it looks like you proved me very wrong. I must say, you have a very talented family."
What?
Kabir looked up at the 'candidate' seated in front of Rahul and he begun making sense of the scene in front of him. A surprised, lopsided smile tugged at the corners of his mouth and slowly made its way all over his face.
Ayesha!
Ayesha had a smug expression on her face as she waved at him. He waved back with the goofy grin, now in it's full intensity, plastered across his face.
But how?
"I've looked through Ayesha's work and listened to some of her suggestions," Rahul went on, oblivious to the siblings' reactions. "And I have to point out that she does have very good ideas. However, as I was just telling her, since this is the first time Ayesha will be doing choreography on such a big scale, I feel like she should be assigned a mentor or a guide to help her. What do you think, Kabir?"
Before Kabir could say a word, Ayesha beat him to it.
"With all due respect Rahul sir," Ayesha spoke up. "If you assign me a mentor or a guide, I might end up relying on him or her more than actually executing on my own ideas. If you don't mind, I'd like to do this on my own."
Rahul looked at Ayesha, very impressed.
"I like your confidence Miss Ayesha Desai," he said. "How about we meet halfway? There's this boy that I interviewed yesterday as a contingency, in case Kabir's plan fails. Like you, he's also a newbie in terms of handling projects of this scale. However, he has a diploma in dance from an established institution which means, he can help you with communicating with the dancers from a technical point."
"What are you trying to say, sir?" Kabir asked.
"What I'm trying to say to Ayesha," he replied. "Is that would she mind if I paired the both of them up? That way, they can help and learn from each other."
"Why not?" Ayesha stated more than asked. "But it has to be an equal partnership. Just because he has the qualifications, doesn't mean he gets to boss me around."
"Of course," Rahul said. He then stood up and extended a hand. Ayesha mirrored his actions. "I'm looking forward to seeing positive results from the both of you. And I really hope that Kabir wouldn't fire his sister."
Rahul shoot Kabir a knowing look and Kabir's gaze returned to the floor. Kabir knew Rahul was joking but he was so close to getting into trouble that he felt that line sounded more like a threat than a joke.
"He wouldn't dare," Ayesha answered on Kabir's behalf as they shook hands. "Thank you so much, sir"
"Now that's being established," Rahul announced. "You two can head to the rehearsal space. Kabir please show Ayesha around and Ayesha, your partner will arrive very shortly. You two can get to know each other while the boys have their vocal rehearsals."
"Thank you, sir," Kabir replied as he led Ayesha out of Rahul's room.
Kabir showed Ayesha around the talent office before heading to the dance studio (or at least the important places). Just a few steps short of dance studio 5, Kabir stopped.
"Kya hua (What happened)?" Ayesha asked. "Why are we stopping?"
"I want to talk to you in private," he replied.
"Go on," she urged.
"Thank you, Ayesha," he said. "For agreeing to do this."
"It's not a big deal," she answered. "After you left, Arjun told me what happened. Basically, you fired the last choreographer because she was hitting on you. And then, in a fit of rage, you told Rahul sir that you would be able to find a better choreographer than her and my name somehow slipped out. I get it. Couldn't you just say this yesterday instead of ghumao-ing (twisting) it? You know, I might have agreed immediately. I mean, did you honestly think that I wouldn't side you? You're my bhaiya (brother) for goodness sake!"
He cringed at the title.
"Mom's not here," he remarked. "You can stop with the bhaiya (brother)."
"Whatever," Ayesha shrugged off. She then continued from where she left off. "Do you know how long I've been looking for a chance to be your knight in shining armour? I'm tired of being your damsel in distress princess!"
Kabir laughed at Ayesha's absurd statement.
"Why are you laughing?" Ayesha scolded. "I'm serious."
"I'm sorry," Kabir said between chuckles.
"Now let's go," Ayesha sulked. "I don't want to be late on the first day."
"Oh trust me," Kabir replied as his laugh died down to a mere snicker. "You don't have to worry about being late. After all, we can't start until Sunny gets here."
Kabir opened the door only to find Sunny in the middle of the dance studio doing some weird dance move.
"Sunny?" Kabir squeaked in surprise.
"Hi," Sunny replied and continued with... Whatever he was doing.
How is it possible that Sunny...?
"How did you think I got here?" Ayesha asked as she pushed past Kabir to joined the rest of them.
Kabir could only gape at the scene in front of him. Sunny... Ayesha... Even Vishal and Arjun were in a corner, going through their music set list, which, was a rare sight.
Kabir pinched himself to check if he was really awake.
Ouch! Ok, definitely awake!
"Hello," Sunny called out. "Are we going to be standing around or are we going to start practice?"
"Come on boys," Kabir called out to Vishal and Arjun as he made his way towards Sunny. "To the center! Let's start."
Arjun immediately leapt off the chair that he was sitting on, leaving behind Vishal, who was in the midst of showing the music list to Ayesha.
"Vishal!" Kabir called out. "Stop flirting with my sister and get your booty here before I go there and Smack That!"
"All On The Floor," Sunny sang. "Smack That!"
When Vishal realized that Kabir and Sunny weren't going to stop until he gets there, he immediately handed the list to Ayesha and did a quick jog to where they were.
"Give Me Some More," Kabir continued. "Smack That!"
"Bhaiya," Arjun whined as he covered his face in embarrassment.
"Arre chill na," Sunny said as he looped an arm around Arjun. "It's just us."
At the exact moment, the studio door jerked open and a guy their age entered.
"Hi, I'm Abhay Deldar. Is Ayesha around?"

A/N: So, if you're wondering what song Kabir and Sunny were taunting Vishal with, it called "Smack That" by Akon, feat. Eminem... It's like one of my jamz back in the 00s... 😁😁😁 One of my close friend hated this song so whenever we wanted to annoy him, we would sing it... The scene was a (almost) perfect re-enactment of what happened... #tribute
Oh-kay, I just realized that I ran out of sugar and I'm going to crash now so, I guess I'll see you tomorrow...
