Chapter 10
A/N: Chapter 10!!! Woooohooo!!! The first double digit chapter 😂😂😂
I was thinking... Since I lost a days worth of word counts, should I double update or write an extremely long chapter? Hmm... Care to help a girl out? 😁😁😁
***
It was about 2am when everyone piled up at Kabir's apartment. It was a decently sized 2 roomed bachelor pad with a view overlooking the sea. Ayesha remembered how proud Kabir was when he called her and told her that he had bought his own place with his own pay check. Now, seeing it with her own eyes for the first time, it made her heart swelled, feeling even more proud of Kabir.
It's interiors were even more amazing. The walls are painted in a warm beige colour and the place had a very personal touch to it. Upon entering, on the left was a long table decorated with photos. Some of them were with Tara, some were with the boys and a few solo shots of Kabir. One picture, however, stood out. The photo was a family photo taken when her family visited Goa. She was about 10 then.
She remembered that her mom had just set up a new branch of her boutique and after the launch, her dad decided that they should drive around and spend time as a family. A local told them about this place that had a heart shaped lake and they decided to randomly make a detour there. She remembered how quiet and peaceful it was. As it was around lunch time, they decided to have a picnic there. Her dad took that photo just before they left. It was one of her best childhood memories.
She couldn't help but picked the photo frame up and traced the photo with her fingers. Everyone was so happy then. Who knew that a few years later, things would be different.
"It's my favourite too," Kabir said from behind Ayesha. Shocked by his presence, Ayesha jumped a little and almost dropped the photo frame.
"You scared me," she said to him.
"I know," Kabir replied with a wink. "Come and help me. Arjun is sending a text to mom and dad so that they won't panic in case they don't see you two in the morning."
"Why won't they see us in the morning?" Ayesha asked.
"You should know better than anyone," Kabir joked. "Sleeping beauty."
Oh.
They entered Kabir's room which was next to the table. Ayesha was shocked. It was so neat compared to his room back home. When she entered, the first thing that caught her eye was the study table. His laptop laid in the middle with two speakers, each on one side of the laptop. A bookshelf stood next to it. Beside her at the door was Kabir's wardrobe. It was made out of wood and painted in a nice glossy black finish. Next to the wardrobe and opposite off the study was the bed. It was in a slight mess but knowing Kabir, that was one thing he refused to clean up. "It's a waste of time," he said. "Why tidy it up if you are going to mess it up again tonight?"
Her brother had pulled out a mattress from under the bed and asked her to bring it out to the living room. She obeyed but tripped on it's edges twice before Abhay noticed and rushed over to help her.
She mumbled a little thanks as he took the mattress from her and laid it out at the living room. Kabir emerged from the room with another mattress and motioned to get to grab some pillow. She went in the room again and picked up a few pillows. She stopped by the bookcase and saw that her brother had quite an interesting range of books. It was mainly made up of autobiographies, music sheet and a few travel books. Upon closer inspection, she noticed there were also some CDs of his favourite singers and bands nearly arranged in one corner of the shelf. She then walked out, hugging the pillows to her chest.
"Wow Kabir," Ayesha said in awe. "I'm impressed with your place. Who designed this?"
"I did," Vishal replied, proudly. "Well sort of. I just copied the whole idea from a magazine and modified it to fit Kabir's apartment and taste. Tara helped too."
"You're good, Vishal," Ayesha complimented. "You know, you should start your own designing business when you retire from VKAS. It would be awesome."
"Thanks," Vishal answered, sheepishly.
"Ok enough talk," Sunny shouted. "Time for a movie!"
"DDLJ!" Di announced.
"No way," Sunny retorted. "I want to watch a horror movie."
"No," Sonia whined. "I won't be able to sleep for a week."
"Exactly," Sameer agreed with Sonia. "I object. Have pity on me, yaar. She'll come and disturb me every 30 seconds because she's paranoid that something is watching her."
"What about comedy?" Vishal suggested.
"Yes," Tara agreed.
"Are you nuts?" Kabir asked. "It's 2am. Unless you want all of us to be arrested for disturbance of peace, I think we shouldn't."
"Bhaiya," Arjun said. "What about that new Fantastic Four film? The Rise of the Silver Surfer. That was pretty good. Do you have it?"
Everyone nodded in agreement.
"Thank God I do," Kabir murmured as he pulled out the DVD. "Ta-da!"
"Awesome!" Sunny said as he plunked himself on a mattress and Arjun followed suit. After putting in the DVD, Kabir sat on the remaining seat on the sofa. He squeezed in between Tara, who was on his right and Ayesha, on his right. Sonia and Di were occupying the sofa next to Ayesha while Vishal and Sameer took the one next to Tara.
Abhay emerged from the kitchen carrying a huge bowl of popcorn just as the movie started playing. He then sat down on the mattress next to Arjun.
Half way through the movie, half of the girls and Arjun were already asleep. Unfortunately for Kabir, the girls that had fallen asleep were the ones on him. Kabir kicked Sunny lightly to get his attention. He turned around to find Kabir being used as a human pillow by both his girlfriend and his sister. Sunny stifled a laughter and got up.
"What?" Sunny whispered.
"I can't feel my hands," Kabir whispered back.
Sunny almost bust out laughing but decided against it.
"Can you move Ayesha a little?" Kabir asked. "Don't worry about waking her up, she's sleeps like the dead."
Sunny moved Ayesha a little so that Kabir could free his arm. Like what Kabir said, Ayesha didn't wake up but instead leaned into Sunny. Sunny could feel her soft breath on him and it suddenly reminded him of that day in the car.
After Sunny had freed one of Kabir's hand, Kabir used it to free his other hand from Tara. He gently laid Tara down and placed her head on his lap. Kabir then turned back only to notice Sunny being a little too cuddly with Ayesha. Suddenly, his overprotective brotherly instincts kicked in.
"Kya kar rahe ho (What are you doing)?" Kabir asked, while giving Sunny a light shove. It immediately snapped Sunny out of his thoughts.
"What am I supposed to do with her?" Sunny asked in response.
"Just lie her back on the sofa," Kabir replied. "She won't wake up."
Sunny nodded and gently placed her back on the sofa. He then returned to his place on the mattress, trying to avoid Kabir's killer gaze.
When the movie ended, only Kabir, Vishal, Sunny, Abhay and Di were awake. Kabir woke Tara up as Di woke Sameer and Sonia. Sunny had gone to the spare bedroom to grab a blanket to cover Arjun while Vishal and Abhay helped to clean up.
Soon, everyone started leaving. The first were Sameer, Sonia and Di, followed by Vishal and Abhay.
"I can't believe these two actually slept through that," Sunny told Kabir.
"Must be the Desai genes," Kabir commented. "And what was that with my sister? Those lovey-dovey eyes."
"What do you mean?" Sunny asked, confused.
"I saw the way you looked at her," Kabir said. "Aap ke paas kya iraada hai (What intentions do you have)?"
"Nonsense," Sunny replied. "You're imagining things."
"I hope I am," Kabir remarked. "Because I'd hate to hurt you if you hurt my sister."
"I remember," Sunny laughed. "You told me once. Why do you always think that there's something going on between me and Ayesha? What about Vishal? Or Abhay?"
"Who says I trust Abhay with her?" Kabir replied. "Didn't I make you stay back last week? Vishal has told me that Ayesha is too loud for him which means he's intimidated by her. So, that leaves you. Aaannnddd.... she had a crush on you which makes you an even bigger target."
Sunny laughed.
"Maine tumse kaha tha na (Didn't I tell you)?" Sunny reminded Kabir. "I have no interest in pursuing Ayesha. Woh tumhari behen hai (She's your sister)."
"Fine," Kabir relented. "Can you send Tara home? At least I trust you enough with her."
Sunny laughed.
"Shouldn't you be more worried about me and Tara?" Sunny joked.
"No," Kabir replied, nonchalantly. "She's like a bro to you. And we know that you're jealous of her. Right, my koochie-poo?"
Kabir pinched both of Sunny's cheeks and wiggled them around jokingly. Kabir only let go of them when Tara reappeared.
"I swear that if I'm not dating Kabir," Tara joked. "The both of you will eventually end up together."
Sunny straightened himself up, mortified by that thought.
"Shall we?" Sunny asked Tara.
"Ok," she replied. "Just give me one second."
Tara quickly planted a kiss on Kabir's cheeks.
"Bye," she said. "I love you."
"I love you too," Kabir replied and pulled her into an embrace.
"Oi," Sunny called out. "Get a room. There are underage children sleeping just 5 feet away."
Kabir gave Sunny a nasty look and let go of Tara. Kabir then closed the front door behind them and looked at his two half siblings who were uncomfortably sprawled across the living room.
First, he carried Ayesha, bridal style and put her into his spare bedroom that doubled up as his personal studio. Then, he went back for Arjun. He gently placed a pillow under his head and covered him up properly with the blanket Sunny brought.
After that, he switched off the lights and retired to his room.
