Chapter One

Hey! Welcome to chapter 1! Just a warning that this chapter includes mature content. It contains topics of violence and kidnapping ( like an episode of criminal minds).

Aleta sighed looking at herself in the bathroom mirror, her first day working as an FBI profiler was making her a tad nervous, taking down serial killers was one thing, but meeting a new unit in a completely different building was a completely different ball game. She gave her reflection one final glance, Aleta had chosen to wear a plain black blouse paired with her fitted dark blue jeans and a long black coat. Slipping on her white converse and grabbing her things, Aleta hurried to her car hoping she would arrive at the BAU on time.

On the ride there Aleta pumped herself up with her favorite playlist, full blast as she drove. When she finally reached the BAU she turned down her music, swallowed her nerves and tried to calm herself before exiting her car and pushing open the glass doors. Thankfully, when she stepped onto the elevator, nobody else was there. Allowing her mind to wander to her new position, Aleta prayed history wouldn't repeat itself with this new team.

Finally after centuries she reached the correct floor and had to give herself a push to enter the office that buzzed with commotion.

Aleta cursed herself for not remembering where her unit chief's office had been when she came for her interview, she stood there dumbly trying to think about which direction to head in.

Luckily a brightly dressed employee noticed the confused look on her face and came over to her heels clicking against the marble floors and coffee in hand.

"Excuse me, are you okay? You seem lost."

"Oh yeah I am, I'm trying to find Agent Hotchner's office but I can't remember where it is."

The woman smiled warmly, "Oh! You're the new agent!! It's nice to meet you! I'm Penelope Garcia, hacker extraordinaire. I'm one of your unit teammates, except I rarely come with you guys, I just assist from my batcave here."

Aleta laughed, now at ease with Penelope's calming presence. "That's great! I'm looking forward to working with you"

They both smiled at each other and made easy conversation as Garcia guided Aleta to Hotch's office. Just as they reached the door, Penelope stopped short. "I have to get everything ready to present the case to the team, but I will see you in the conference room in a few minutes."

"Of course!" Aleta said smiling.

Holding her breath, Aleta knocked on the door. A quiet "Come in." came from the other side. She entered to find Agent Hotchner at his desk filling out paperwork, does this guy ever smile? Aleta wondered.

"Agent Fields! Welcome back, I'm glad to see you have decided to start working with us here."

'Happy to be here," Aleta replied. "Do we have a case Agent Hotchner?"

"Please call me Hotch, and yes follow me to meet the rest of the team in the conference room, where we are briefed on our latest cases." She nodded and followed him out of his office and down the hallway.

They entered a room where an oval table sat in the middle, with people sitting around it chatting, while Penelope set up the screen.

"Guys, I would like to introduce our newest profiler, Agent Fields."

The first one to stand and greet her was the VERY muscular guy sitting the closest to the door. Hi, I'm Derek Morgan, but you can call me anytime," he winked at her, very proud of himself while the others just rolled their eyes. Aleta chuckled, "Nice to meet you Derek, Aleta Fields, but you can call me Leta." He gave her another award winning smile and sat back down, next to introduce themselves were JJ and Emily, both giving her encouraging words on her first day. After them came David Rossi, who shook her hand and made a joke about how someone named Reid wouldn't be the youngest on the team anymore. Puzzled, she asked, "Who's Reid?'

As if he had been summoned, a curly brown haired man, who didn't look more than a year older than her ran through the door, "Sorry I'm late, the train was 3 minutes and 47 seconds later than usual."

"Reid, meet Aleta Fields. The newest addition to our team." Hotch said, stepping out of the way so they could greet each other.

Immediately, Aleta couldn't help but melt at the guy in front of her, who was virtually a mess trying to introduce himself.

"Oh, um hello. I'm Dr. Spe-ncer Reid, I'm glad- I mean, It's nice to meet you." He reached out his hand for her to shake.

Giving him a wide smile she shook his outstretched hand.

"Reid, did you just shake her hand?" Emily asked, shocked. The rest of the team wore matching faces of confusion.

Reid tried to answer but couldn't form a complete sentence, but luckily Aleta cut in.

"Oh, I totally understand why you wouldn't want to. I read a very interesting paper that said it is safer to kiss someone, than shake their hand."

Spencer nodded along with a shocked expression on his face.

The rest of the team looked between the two of them with interest, but before anyone could say anything else Hotch interrupted the exchange, "Alright there will be time to get to know each other better later, right now we have a case, Garcia."

"Right yes sir, we have a child abduction in Illinois. 8 year old Sahra Michaels was taken from her home last night without anyone in the neighbourhood noticing she was gone. Including her family, until the next morning that is when they went to wake her for school and they found her missing from her bed."

"How do we know that Sahra didn't just run away? It seems like an impossible task for an unsub to subdue Sahra without a struggle and her parents waking up in the next room over." Rossi said, glancing down at his tablet.

"This is where the story turns all kinds of awful." Garcia replied cringing, "In the past month, two children the same age as Sahra, Kyle Lower and Tessa Montgomry went missing without a trace from their homes and then their bodies were discovered approximately two days later in a nearby field.

"So they were both found in the same field, which indicates that the unsub may have ties to that place. It's significant to them in some way." JJ chimed in.

"Or, maybe he has to bring them there; it's part of his ritual. He is compelled to bring them there." Morgan added.

Either way we have to get to Illinois, if the unsub stays true to the pattern we only have a little bit less than 48 hours to find Sahra, wheels up in thirty," Hotch said, dismissing the team to get their things.

An hour later, the team sat on the jet. They had just discussed the case more and now they were trying to kill an hour and a half before landing.

Morgan and Rossi were playing cards, Hotch was filling out paperwork, Emily and JJ were talking amongst themselves while Aleta listened to her "Flying Playlist" she created to listen to when she was in a situation just like this.

Suddenly she was pulled from her thoughts by JJ, "Leta, what are you listening to? It looks like a good song."

"Oh, here I have like 5000 playlist on here take a look, I have one for every occasion!" Aleta laughed as she passed over her phone to JJ so she and Emily could take a look for themselves.

"Wow you weren't joking, you even have a playlist for when you are washing the dishes." Hearing their conversation Morgan walked over, and sat down across the aisle from them. "You should've gotten into the music industry instead of the FBI," he joked.

"I would have but I can't sing for the life of me, and the music industry is too cutthroat anyways."

"More cutthroat than hunting down serial killers for a living?" Rossi chimed in.

They all laughed, and Spencer joined the group sitting beside Aleta and handing her a steaming cup of coffee.

"Oh thanks Spence, you are officially my favourite!" he smiled at the use of the nickname and looked down at the floor, not used to the spotlight on him.

Before anyone could say anything else however, Hotch interrupted.

"When we land I want JJ and Fields to accompany me to the police station so we can set up and talk to the victims family. Garcia will work on getting the street surveillance cameras from where the abduction took place. Morgan and Prentiss will go to the crime scene and Reid and Rossi will go to the morgue and see what they can find out. Everyone nodded understanding their assignments."

"Are you ready for your first case with the team?" asked Spencer, giving her an encouraging smile.

"I was born ready."

The bau had only been working the case for about a day, but it was wearing on everyone, especially the victims family. Currently they had no leads, and Aleta was trying to calm down the victim's dad who was getting increasingly more upset as time ticked on.

"WHY CAN'T YOU FIND MY DAUGHTER? YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST AND YOU ARE JUST SITTING HERE WASTING PRECIOUS TIME!"

"Mr. Michaels I understand how you are feeling, but we are very good at what we do and finding Sahra is our top priority." Aleta explained in a gentle voice.

"BULLSHIT!" Adam yelled, catching the entire police station's attention.

Before she could try to calm him down, Adam slapped her.

Immediately Spencer and Hotch started to come over angry at the man, but Aleta without even flinching from the hit to the face, turned to them holding her hand up as a signal to step back.

"Mr. Michaels, I understand, I really do. But, you cannot fall apart right now. Your daughter needs you to remain strong and lashing out at me will not help her. So, I'm going to need you to take a break. Get a coffee, go for a walk, take a shower or anything but be here right now. You are no good to Sahra in this state."

He only nodded solemnly before walking out the door to collect himself.

The team all had a look of shock, but once that wore off they looked impressed. Although, Spencer did give her an ice pack for her face, despite her resistance.

Eventually, the team was able to locate the young girl with her having minimal injuries. To celebrate a good ending to a case and their new teammate, the team decided when they got home they would go out to a bar for drinks. On the way to the jet Morgan, Rossi, Spencer and Aleta carpooled together, with Morgan driving and Aleta riding shotgun, controlling the aux. Finally after what felt like an eternity she found the best playlist, hitting play Pour it Up by Rihanna started to play. Smiling Derek turned it up and sang along with Leta. Laughing Rossi started to tap his foot along to the beat. Spencer, well, he couldn't stop staring at the woman in the front seat, her mood was contagious. Leta was just who she had always been, in the few days he had known her, she was always her authentic self, never wavered, never backed down. However, something nagged at him, telling him to go to her, but that was just crazy thinking, he couldn't be falling for her after only knowing her for a short time, could he?
