The cozy two-story house was completely silent as bleak rain clouds merged above in the sky. Birds and other creatures have already taken shelter, awaiting a hefty storm at night. Owls and frogs creaked loudly, oddly harmonizing with each other. To add to the horror of the atmosphere, the neighborhood dogs have begun to bark and howl while a few stray cats screeched. Despite the chaos in nature, the family of three was sound asleep indoors. A woman and a male in their thirties were fast asleep on a bed, drowning in blankets under the dull lighting of bed lamps. On the second story of the house was the attic, where their niece slept, at least tried to. The obnoxious sound of thunder and cries of insects kept the teenager awake past midnight.
In less than a minute, heavy thunder hit the ground, causing an instant blackout, and leaving behind houses with generators. The teenager rolled her eyes, sitting up on her bed and reaching out for her glasses. Although she wanted to step outside her room and roam around, she decided to just wait, for what she didn't know. Her phone vibrated suddenly turning her attention to the device, it read a google reminder; 'Happy birthday y/n'. The girl scoffed quietly, shutting her phone and laying back on her bed.
"Keep quiet!" A raspy voice scolded, to which another deeper voice retorted with a pout. "I am quiet!" Soon, the front door of the house opened, its eerie creak being muffled by thunder. Four figures stepped inside with muddy shoes, looking around the small house. "Come on!" The bulkier one at the front stated, causing two of them to follow while the one with the deep voice went in another direction. Soon he realized the mistake and followed after the three, pretending that he wasn't mistaken. Passing the empty living room, the group of four stopped at the kitchen, snooping around at the leftovers and culinary.
Each of them wore odd clothing, with shades of red, black, and white, silky cloaks with pointy collars. Adding onto the oddness in outfits, their complexion was pale with white canine teeth poking their lower lip. To shorten the description, they were vampires.
Y/n's eyes shot open as she sat up, her glasses slipping down to the edge of her nose. Pushing the specs closer to her eyes, the teenager stood up and stared at her door for at least two minutes. Footsteps and giggling could be heard clearly through the closed door, despite the heavy rain outside. The one thing y/n always found as a curse was her enhanced senses, which always kept her awake at night, and now the voice of random strangers possibly broken inside her house or her aunt's house. Y/n never knew why she lived with her aunt and uncle and who was her actual parents and if she ever had any siblings. All these questions remained unanswered for years and she stopped asking them.
The stairs of the attic creaked as she climbed down, the ends of her fluffy slippers accidentally creating a thudding noise that scared her. The giggling and snickers were louder as she reached downstairs, slipping past her aunt's bedroom. There were four, y/n could sense them. The closer she got to the kitchen the smell of whipping cream and other savory ingredients reached her nostrils. She wondered if the hooligans were homeless people searching for food, as anyone could say there wasn't anything worth stealing at her house. "Aa, you're awake I see" A sullen voice suddenly spoke causing Y/n to halt her steps. The muffled laughs stopped as the girl could no longer hear thunder outside.
Four silhouettes emerged from the kitchen, standing tall before the teenager. A strong lightning flashes enabling y/n to witness their faces, pale and handsome. Alas, the girl was far more interested in saving herself than gushing over men. As soon as she took a step backward, her back collided with a firm chest, and one of the four was behind her. "You thought you can run away? Huh, that's funny" A strangely calm voice spoke, but his aura seemed to hold dominance over the other three.
The one who spoke first stepped forward, crossing his arms and scoffing at the smaller girl. "You look nothing like Jinyoung told us. Are you the descendant of the Demon King? You? A weakling?" Y/n felt the man behind her sigh, holding her hands pinned behind herself. "Let's not think Sir Jinyoung lied to Seungmin, she's just a kid after all"
"I could care less BangChan, either way, she's a Demon, I'd rather prefer to quickly get our mission over with and return to the mansion" The tallest one among them; seungmin stated with an annoyed expression, glaring down at the eighteen-year-old. "Wa-wait. What do you mean Demon king? Descendant? I'm a demon? What are you on about? Who are you, people?-"
"Jeez, she talks too much, Felix, tranquilize her" Seungmin spoke to the white-haired male, who was standing idle on the side. BangChan sighed again, this time sounding more frustrated. "Felix doesn't. She does deserve an explanation before we take her" While the other two nodded, Seungmin simply walked away to the living room. BangChan curtly released y/n's fragile hands as she winced at the sudden flow of blood in them, his grip was a bit too strong for her. "First of all, we're not here to hurt you, or your aunt or uncle. We simply wanna talk" Said Bangchan, a polite yet troubled smile etching on his face. "Didn't look like it" Y/n's reply caught the men off-guard though they played it cool.
"Seungmin tends to get itchy when it rains, I'll apologize on his behalf as his leader" Felix scratched his head at the leader's words glancing at Y/n. "why don't we have this conversation in the living room? The story is long after all" Changbin spoke up with a tired yet interested voice. Bang Chan nodded accordingly before placing his hand behind Y/n to escort her.
An hour passed by slowly, and the grandfather clock in the living room ticked 1:30. "So... I'm the daughter of this demon king you mentioned. Since I was half human they sent me to earth to be looked after by my mother's sister aka my aunt. And my mother was murdered because of their relationship. But now he wants to bring me back because my powers are growing?"
The four males nod in sync, sitting opposite her on the couch. "How do I know this is all real? What if this demon king is lying? And what if you guys are lying?!"
Understanding the teen's worry, Bang Chan scooted closer raising his hands to show that he meant no harm. "If we were lying your aunt and uncle had come to confront us. They are wide awake in their room right now. Right, Mrs. Jeon?!" Y/n's eyes widen to a fraction hearing a trembling 'yes' coming from the closed room of the couple.
"Grab what's precious come out of the door in thirty" Seungmin stated after a minute of silence, causing y/n to agree and waddle back up the stairs. Felix stares as the girl's slumped figure walked away. "Don't feel too bad Lix. She'll get over it" Changbin's words were thrown out of the window as the younger looked away towards the hallway.
Thirty minutes passed, and Y/n came down the stairs and stopped in front of the couple's room. "Auntie? Uncle?" There were a few shuffles and steps but the door was still kept shut. "We aren't allowed to see your escorts and we're sorry dear. There were always times we wanted to tell you the truth. But the truth will cost us our lives" Y/n pressed her forehead against the wooden door, knowing well that her aunt was in tears. "Don't worry Y/n, you're safe in your father's hands. He loved your mother more than anyone. But his allies betrayed him. However I trust these kids, they'll keep you protected"
Said her uncle, resulting in an agreeing hum from her aunt. "I guess so... I'll get going now. Thanks for everything. Goodbye," Her aunt's sobs were entirely muffled but still hearable through the thunderstorm. BangChan, Felix, Changbin, and Seungmin stood outside in the rain with black and red umbrellas. Felix gestured for Y/n to come closer, sharing the bright red umbrella with her. Changbin took the small backpack from her and smiled at the younger. "Shall we go then?"
Y/n nodded at the leader as he smiled back, stepping onto the wet pavement and disappearing into thin air. The other soon followed. The rain began to seize with the cries of insects, clouds clearing to a bright blue sky with a ring of a rainbow over the small town. Y/n glanced back for a second, seeing her aunt and uncle now outside in the rain waving to her though they couldn't see her. Felix wrapped his hand around her shoulder. "You'll be okay Y/n"
