8. Nobody parties like the Price family
☕︎☕︎☕︎
It's finally my second favourite F-word, Friday! The first week of school is finally done and I have never been more excited for the weekend.
School was the same old and nothing new happened, but there is a party tonight that both Landon, Roman and all of their friends plus my friends have decided to attend.
I didn't go because I don't need to be around drugs and alcohol for now especially at a new school. I don't want to be peer pressured into anything, and I also don't want to tell anyone about my past yet. It's already a lot being judged as the new kid and catching so much attention in the first week. The last thing I want to be known for is being an ex junky.
Grayson and Jaxon are still at the office getting a few extra things done because of all the meetings Grayson pushed two days ago for some quality time with me. That means the house is all to me. Since everyone was doing their own thing tonight, I decided to order pizza and a chocolate milkshake for myself.
I'm munching away on that as I watch The Witcher on Netflix in our theatre room.
As I continue to watch and eat, the lights go out.
"Aw, fuck!" I groan as I grab my phone and one more slice of pizza. I eat it as I turn on the flashlight on my phone and walk over to the light switch. I flick it on and off to see if it's just an overheating situation, but the lights don't turn on.
The backup generator turns on the small backup lights we have installed throughout the house and I jump as the show starts playing again.
"Fuck Witcher, you're hot, but I got a weak heart," I exasperate as I place my hand on my heart. When I open my eyes, they land on the slice of pizza on the ground and my jaw drops open.
I look between the screen and the pizza on the floor.
"Now that is just unforgivable," I conclude turning around and walking out of the room. I hear glass break in the kitchen and stop dead in my tracks.
We have a high level of security because that's legit what we do for a living. We make high tech security systems so it can't be a break-in, the alarms would be blaring by now. Also, no one is smart enough to dismantle them. Aaron is a mathematic genius and he comes up with all the tech sequences and shit they use, so yeah I don't believe we are being robbed.
I hear a screech as if the dining table chairs are being pushed around.
"Mm, do I really wanna go check that out?" I talk to myself.
I glue my back to the wall and look at both ends of the hallway. One leads to the kitchen and one leads to my room.
"Fuck it," I say as I decide to go check out the kitchen.
"Don't worry, Grayson and Landon! I'll grab the popcorn!" I yell. I hope yelling my brother's names will make the person believe I'm not home alone, I mean if there is someone there.
I hold my phone tightly and have it ready to dial nine one one if I have to.
This time I hear heavy footsteps and the backdoor slam shut.
Instead of going to the kitchen, I go to the back door. The backyard seems vacant as the hue of the pool shines onto the door.
I spot the tap running.
Now, I know what you're thinking. It's a trap, right? I hear someone exit through this door and now the tap is running. That's too odd to be a coincidence.
But what I have and you don't have, is confidence in my security system.
And also, yolo.
I think as I exit and go over to turn off the tap. My heart beats heavily against my rib cage and I breathe deeper trying to keep calm. If I overthink, I'll psych myself out. As I twist it off, I hear someone behind me and before I can react, someone screams into my ear.
"Boo!"
"Fuck!" I turn around and my phone goes flying twenty feet away into the grass. I spot Landon laughing, bent over. "Fuck you! That's not funny!"
"It... is!" he drags out between his laughter.
"Fuck off," I groan crossing my arms over my chest.
As I turn my body, I spot Roman bending over to pick up the phone in the distance. I raise my eyebrow as he raises his head and we make eye contact. A cocky smirk takes place on his face. I immediately start to worry.
"What are you doing with my phone?" I yell.
"Oh, nothing!" he says as he starts walking over to the pool. He takes a few steps walking backwards, but when he notices me slowly walking towards him he turns around increasing his speed. I start running after him until he dangles my phone over the pool.
"Roman! What the fuck! Don't drop it! Weren't you supposed to be at that stupid party?" I speak frustrated.
"No, that was just a decoy so that I could get you back for the other day," he shrugs. The lights turn on and I look back at the house realizing this was his plan all along.
"Landon was in too?"
"Yup, so were Jaxson and Grayson. They're actually inside right now."
"Holy fucking shit! You guys are assholes! Whoa! Stop stop stop!" I beg when he acts like he's about to let go of the phone.
"Why would I do that?"
"Come on, Roman! I don't have anything backed up! I'm gonna lose everything!"
"Should have thought about that before you decided to destroy my mattress and turn me blue!"
"Okay, okay! I'm sorry! Now please stop!" I whine stomping my feet.
"Not the best apology, but I guess it'll do," he says.
"Actually?"
"Sike," he says as he flicks the phone into the pool. On instinct, I sprint and jump into the pool. I'm able to catch the phone in the air, but since he threw the phone into the deep end I drag it down with me.
Once I'm in the water, I quickly start kicking to reach the top. I break the water and gasp for air as the freezing water pierces through my skin.
"Fuck!"
I tread the water and look at the phone. I try to turn it on, but it's not working. I hear Landon and Roman both laughing. Landon's recording.
"It's not funny!"
"It is!" Roman laughs.
"I literally lost everything!" I say as I throw the phone at him. He easily dodges.
"That's not your phone, this is," he says pulling out my phone from his pocket. He displays the screen saver and my mouth gapes at the sight.
"You suck!"
"Nah, I'm just a genius," he says brushing his shoulder.
"It's war, Roman Price. You better watch your back."
"As shall you, Reese Price," Roman winks. It takes a moment, but we all start laughing.
☕︎☕︎☕︎
I walk into the kitchen and spot my brother's all dressed in their pyjamas. Grayson's pjs are silk grey with a black outline, Jaxon's are grey sweats and a white shirt, Landon's are black sweats and a black shirt and Roman's are red plaid bottoms with no shirt. I'm wearing a pink silk tank top with matching shorts.
After I got out of the pool, Grayson said he wanted to make muffins and have a movie slash game night. We all agreed and I told them I'd help them with the baking once I take a shower.
Grayson seems to be reading off the ingredients on his phone while Roman, Landon and Jaxon all grab the things he's listing off. Instead of disturbing them with my presence, I take a seat on one of the counters opposite of them. It gives me the perfect view of what's going on and it's comfortable. Well, as comfortable as a countertop could possibly get.
I pull out my phone and start to back up all my files and photos. I've learned my lesson.
"You know just because you haven't said anything, doesn't mean we haven't noticed you," Jaxon says as he looks through one of the cupboards.
"What do you mean? I thought I made my presence known," Roman groans as he pulls out a pan for the muffins.
"Not you, idiot. Her," he says as he swings his head in my direction.
"Huh?" Roman says and everyone turns to look at me.
"When did you get in here?" Landon questions.
"Like two minutes ago..."
"Damn," Grayson says.
"You know you'd be a great secret agent," Roman claims.
"Yeah? Tell me more."
"No, don't tell her more. We still need the muffin covers, pam and coconut still," Grayson announces. "And Reese, get in here. It's family time."
"Oh come on, you know we can't bake. That's our whole family's weakness," I frown as I put my phone to the side and jump off the counter.
My hair's still a bit damp, but I twist it into a high bun using the elastic that I had on my wrist.
"Come on there's like six steps. We seriously can't fuck this up," Landon says.
"Yes, we can," Roman scoffs. "Remember when we burned the cake we tried to make for mom and dad's anniversary?"
"Yeah, we almost burned the fucking house down," Jaxon laughs.
"Yeah and we all got stuck scraping the burn marks off the ceiling," Grayson rolls his eyes.
"How did that even happen, again?" Landon questions.
"Reese forgot to put a timer on the cake and instead of using pam she used hairspray to grease the pan," Roman explains.
"Okay, in my defence, I was like ten and the bottle was yellow. I didn't know much more about what Pam is," I argue. "For all I know, I could've easily also mistaken it for the name of one of the employees."
"That's true, can't argue with that," Jaxon agrees.
"Okay, so it says first to pour two cups of flour and mix it with two cups of cocoa powder," Grayson says.
"Okay, I got this," Roman claims. "Where is one cup? Oh, got it. What the fuck? I swear a normal cup looks bigger than this."
"Right! I thought I was the only one who thought that," Landon agrees. "Everyone who agrees, raise your hand."
Everyone in the room raises their hand.
Sometimes I wonder how Grayson runs the business so well.
"Holy shit, Roman! You idiot!" Jaxon says as he starts to cough. Roman poured the flour in so fast that it flew everywhere.
"Roman, I'm sleeping in these pyjamas," Grayson groans as he wacks Roman behind the head.
"Ow, Gray what the fuck," Roman groans. As he lifts his hand to pat his head, the cocoa power spills all over his head. We all start laughing.
"Ugh!" Roman groans and breathes the powder in. He starts choking.
"Bro, don't choke and die. You're too young," Landon says as he pats Roman's back.
"Oh, you think that's funny?" Roman questions. Before Landon can reply, Roman shakes his head and dusts off the excess powder onto Landon.
"Bro, come on!"
"Okay, before you two start a food fight, cut it! I'm craving muffins tonight and I won't rest until I have them," Grayson pledges. "You two clean up. Reese, help."
"Ugh, fine. My hair's still wet, so I swear to God Roman if you get flour in it, I'm gonna kill you in your sleep," I zone my eyes into him, trying to intimidate him.
"I'm gonna kill you in your sleep," Roman mocks me in a squeaky tone. I just roll my eyes in response and decide to ignore him as he starts cleaning up with Landon's help.
"Okay, let's do this again," Grayson starts off.
After an hour and a half of figuring out the steps, mixing the ingredients, arguing and figuring out how to use the fancy-ass oven, we finally have edible chocolate and coconut muffins. Landon and Roman also had enough time to clean themselves off. Instead of washing their hair, I told them just to blow dry the flour away and it worked. There's hair ninety percent clean.
My hand starts to reach out for the muffin.
"Ow!" I yell when Grayson whacks my hand away.
"I need to take a picture first," he says as he angles his phone to take a picture of the batch of muffins cooling on the rack. "Mom would be so proud."
"Yeah, she would be," I agree.
"Definitely," Jaxon says.
"Sucks she can't try one with us," Roman says.
"I'm sure she's watching over us and having a few laughs," Landon says as he reaches over and grabs a muffin.
"Hey!" I say and grab one too. I take a bite and something is instantly off. Instead of the sweet and chocolaty taste I was looking for, a bitter saltiness devours my taste buds. I run over to the sink and bodycheck Landon to the side, so that I can spit out the content in my mouth. "Okay, it's a good thing mom can't taste this."
"What? Why?" Jaxson questions, worried.
"Someone put salt in, not sugar!" Landon chokes.
"Oh..." Grayson says. I take a quick glance behind me and see him scratching the back of his head nervously.
"I was right!" Roman claims.
"For once," I groan. I scratch my tongue under the tap as I try to get rid of the horrid taste.
The doorbell rings and we all exchange looks.
"Were you expecting anyone?" Jaxson's eyebrows knit.
"Nope," I say.
"No," Grayson replies.
"I wasn't either," Landon says.
"I was," Roman says. He exits the kitchen before we can question him. We all exchange another look before we go out to see who it is.
As Roman opens the door, his friends pile in. The first one to enter is Sebastian. He's wearing black on black with a white and black plaid shirt and a silver chain around his neck. In his hand, a bottle of champagne.
"Tell me you didn't drive here," Roman says as he welcomes everyone in.
"Nah man, we ubered," Nate explains.
"Hey Candy," Sebastian greets me as he walks in. I smile back at him.
"Good, come on in," Roman says. "You brought the whole gang, huh?"
"Yeah, the party was getting seriously boring," Nate explains.
"Oh shit, you guys came too?" Landon walks past me to the door to greet his friends.
Damn the whole crew is here. I thought this was supposed to be family time.
"Yup," Omar replies.
"We're here too!" Sarah yells walking in through the door. A smile covers my face instantly.
"Oh shit!" I yell running towards them. I hug her and she hugs me back. A few seconds into the hug, I smell liquor off her and cringe.
"Your house is dope," Philip says as he walks in.
"Thank you," I smile. "Was the party actually that boring?"
"Yeah, the cops were pulling up just as we left," Everleigh explains.
"Lucky you guys left on time."
"Yeah if it wasn't for Roman who invited Reis who invited everyone else, we wouldn't have been that lucky," Jake adds.
"Mm-hm," I hear Grayson clear his throat behind me.
"Right, guys this is my oldest brother Grayson. He works at the office, so that's why you won't see him around school that much. That's Jaxon is the third oldest. Guys, this is Jake, Philip, Sarah, Zoya and Everleigh."
Jaxson nods at them before Landon calls him over.
"Nice to meet you guys. Please set your drinks and food on the table and we'll get some dishes out so we can all eat together," he says. They all nod and head on over to the dining area where Landon and Roman already took their friends.
"You guys go ahead, I'll be right there," I tell them. Grayson and I watch them leave.
"You okay? I can tell them to put the drinks away," Grayson asks with concern.
"I'm good, they're already drunk anyway."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am," I assure.
He wraps his arm around my shoulders and pulls me into a hug. He kisses my forehead.
"Well, you know you don't have to stay. If you need, you can go up to your room anytime or ask for them to leave, at any moment. This is your house."
"I know Gray, I just wanna have fun."
"I know," he says rubbing my hair. "I love you."
"I love you too, now let me go have fun."
"Fine," he groans. "I swear, you're growing up to fast."
I break the hug and look up at him smiling.
"You too, I can see the grey hairs coming in."
"Actually?" he sounds worried.
"Yeah, look there's one... two... three white hairs in your beard."
"Oh shit," he huffs. He pulls out his phone and starts looking at himself. "Where? I don't see any."
"Got you!" I yell before running into the dining hall to join everyone else.
☕︎☕︎☕︎
After eating for about an hour and playing drinking games, we started blasting music through our built-in speakers and dancing.
I obviously didn't drink any liquor. I actually filled my cup with ice water. Everyone was a little too tipsy before to notice and now are too drunk to even care.
Even Grayson got into the whole drinking thing and is fifteen shots too drunk to walk straight, but I'm not complaining. Being the only sober person has its perks.
Everyone's sleeping over, so I'm not worried about anyone getting in trouble or getting hurt. All expensive items were secured away before Gray started drinking.
I'm dancing with Everleigh and Sarah.
"Reese!" Sebastian yells. He grabs my hand from behind and spins me around. I crash into his chest.
"Sebastian," I groan. I try to back away but he tightens his arms around my waist. My arms are stuck between me and his chest.
"Dance with me," he speaks lowly.
The song changes to Rehab by Brent Faiyaz. I watch as his head falls back and we move slowly to the beat of the song.
He sings the parts he knows. He lifts his head up and down to look at me. His eyes are droopy but he zones into my eyes.
"In the streets... If you ain't nasty, don't at me I been working all day I like to run the street 'til it's dark out And then come home and blow your back out, hope that's okay I can't leave you alone," he sings staring into my eyes. His green eyes dilate and I swear, I forget how to breathe.
My cheeks start to heat up, but he doesn't seem to notice. His focus is merely on me and it feels like it's just us at the moment, no one else.
The song changes to Slide by H.E.R. featuring YG.
I smile knowing the lyrics to this song. A smile stretches on Sebastian's face too.
"You know this song?" he yells into my ear over the music. I nod in response biting my bottom lip.
"You love what you do with a passion Ooh that shit attractive I fuck with you girl," Sebastian starts off.
"Yeah? It's like that, huh? All you wanna do is gas me How we end up in the backseat? Just tryna get to the bag We on the same page, you the same way Only keep the fam' around me
So let me know what it's gon' be I don't plan on gettin' no sleep," I sing looking right into his eyes. He doesn't stop smiling. He bites his bottom lip as he takes a step back and grabs onto my hands. We both sing as we dance.
"While we Doin' our thing, movin' too fast Candy paint with the windows all black Seats crème brûlée,..." he twists me around with my back glued to his front as we sway. "-what they gon' say? With the top down screamin', 'Money ain't a thing' We up 'til six in the mornin' When the sun rise we be on it Ooh I got five, you know it's all live Tell me when to go, baby, when we gon' slide?..." he twists me around again and this time we're both facing each other. My hands rest on his shoulders and his on my waist, "Baby, when we gon' slide? Hey, hey Up all night, baby, when we goin' slide? Oh, yeah, yeah Baby, when we goin' slide?"
As the song fades and changes into another song. The eye contact gets too intense and I decide to rest the side of my head on his chest as we move to the music. I can feel his heartbeat incredibly fast.
"Ugh, I need to piss," he throws his head back and groans. He lets his arms down and takes a step back from me. The cold air brings back loneliness within me and I frown. I look at him feeling a little angry.
"Way to ruin the moment, shithead," I mumble under my breath.
"Reese, I need to go piss," he repeats.
"Okay, can you walk?"
"Yeah," he mumbles roughly.
"Follow me then," I say as I start to walk towards a bathroom downstairs. I look back to see if he's following me, but I find him glued to his spot. His eyes barely staying open, he again tries to mumble a few words.
"Help me," he says reaching out.
I shake my head and let out a small smile. The boy sounds like a two-year child. I take his hand and place it over my shoulder as I help him walk to one of the guest rooms. The first two guest room bathrooms are occupied, but the third one's empty.
Luckily, he's able to do his business on his own and I don't need to help so I wait patiently sitting on the end of the guest bed.
"Candy?"
"Yes?"
"Are you still there?"
"Yes, I am."
"Okay, good."
"Why?"
"I thought you left me."
"Now why would I do that?"
"I don't know, I think you hate me and I don't know why," he slurs.
"Pft, I don't hate you."
"Sure you don't."
I can feel him rolling his eyes.
I hear the toilet flush.
"Are you drunk like me?"
"Are you insane like me?"
"What?" he sounds confused. I hear the tap run as he washes his hands.
"Been in pain like me?"
"Candy, are you okay?"
"Bought a hundred dollar bottle of champagne like me just to pour that motherfucker down the drain like me?" I quote Halsey's lyrics to Gasoline.
"Reese?" the bathroom door swings open and a worried Sebastian walks out. "Are you okay? Do we need to call a doctor? Why are you pouring champagne down the drain?"
He sits down next to me and eyes me up and down trying to asses my mental state. I feel so bad for him, considering he's drunk. All this focus must be taking up a lot of his energy.
"Yeah," I laugh. "I'm just quoting Halsey's lyrics to Gasoline."
"Oh, you're singing a song?"
"Yeah," I laugh even harder. It takes me a minute, but when I notice Sebastian staring and his cheeks a little red, I start to sober up. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I like your laugh," he says without losing eye contact. Cue the butterflies. I feel my face heat up again and I swear I'm probably visible through the NASA aircraft in space right now. The sun might be the brightest star in the universe, but my face is the brightest tomato in this galaxy.
"Uh... thank you," I reply awkwardly. "I like your lashes."
What the actual fuck, Reese.
Lashes? Really?
I panicked!
"You like my lashes?" he smiles. His smile is perfect.
"Yeah, I mean they're long and mine aren't so I'm jealous."
"You're jealous?" he questions, his voice low. I watch as he slowly inches towards me. His hand finds a place on my thigh keeping me turned towards him. His face angled perfectly so that our lips could meet if he was two inches closer.
Fuck.
Fuck.
Fuck.
His tongue darts out moisturizing his lips and I mimic the movement subconsciously.
"Sebastian?" I whisper.
"Mm-hm?"
"We..."
"Just say no, Candy and I'll stop," he speaks huskily. The alcohol seeps through his breath. If the moment wasn't already intoxicating, that just increased the numbness. "That's what I thought."
And just like that, his lips are on mine. His lips are soft and sweet. They're not demanding and move perfectly in sync with mine. There's a bitter taste of alcohol on his lips and I shudder a bit at the taste, but his sweetness takes over making me forget whatever was about to demolish all the success rehab has brought me.
I don't need the alcohol.
I'm better than that.
Fuck, I love this.
It feels so right.
I haven't felt this strong in so long.
Our lips part and we're both left panting for air.
What. The. Actual. Fuck.
We stare deeper into our eyes, like that was even possible and I swear I'm lost. I don't know where I am, who I am or what I'm supposed to be doing.
Him?
Oh, shut up Reese!
"Re?" Roman is stood at the door. I immediately turn my body away from Sebastian and look at Roman.
Roman's eyes are red telling me he mixed a little weed with his alcohol.
"Yeah?" I ask.
"What are you guys doing?"
"Nothing, he needed to use the bathroom and I showed him where it was."
"Oh, are you done?" he asks Sebastian.
"Me? Oh, yeah yeah. I'm- I'm done," Sebastian clears his throat. He stands up and almost falls over, but he catches himself. "I'm okay."
"Are you sure?" I ask standing up to help him.
"Yeah, I'm okay. I'll let you guys talk and see what the boys are up to."
"Okay," I reply. He nods at me and I smile back at him before he walks out of the room.
"I'm drunk," Roman says as he walks into the room and closes the door behind him.
"Yes, yes you are."
"I'm also high," he says towering over me.
"I guessed."
"I'm sorry," he apologizes. Out of nowhere, he bursts into tears and engulfs me into a hug. "I-I'm sorry, Re. I love you, you know that. Please, don't ever leave me. Th-that night I thought I-I l-lost you and I had no idea what I would've done if I did. I c-can't live without you."
"Aw, Ro. I love you and I promise I'll never scare any of you like that again," I try to assure him as I pat his back. I can feel the tears on my shoulder.
"Promise?" he sobs.
"Pinky swear."
"Pinky toe swear?"
"Pinky toe swear," I laugh.
"Hey! It's not funny!" he scolds.
"Yeah, I know I'm sorry," I apologize and withhold my amusement.
"I'm tired, let's go to sleep," he says. He breaks the hug and crawls onto the bed.
I look at him.
"That's not your bed."
"I know," he replies as he gets under the blanket.
"Okay?"
"Come on, let's sleep together like we used to."
"We haven't slept together since we were ten and until the other night."
"Yes, five years of missed twin time. Come on, you never know what's gonna happen."
"Don't say that," I frown.
"Okay," he says drowning in a deep sleep. The music is still on outside and I hesitate to get into bed. I know everyone is responsible enough to not die, so I decide to take this time to myself and get into bed.
Roman has always been a drunk crier.
"Re?"
"Yeah?
"No one parties like the Price family."
"Yup."
"It feels like the good old days, but without all the other bullshit."
"Right? It's like a new and improved version."
"Mm-hm. Too bad mom and dad aren't here."
"Yeah, I guess they were just not meant to be a part of it," I frown. As I feel the heaviness getting to me, I inch closer to Roman and place my head on his chest. His arm wraps around me making me feel safe as I fall into a deep sleep.
It's true, nothing is more calming than the natural connection of two twins.
