Chapter Two
'Dear Diary,
It's been a month since I entered college and boy oh boy it feels amazing. I'm far from home, so many friends and lots of things to do.
If I'm to keep tabs on myself, I will need you, someone I can trust with my secrets...here's one secret:
I kinda like Ese. He is the first male friend in this school for now. Focus Selah, focus. NO DATING.
I have to sleep. I love you.'
Selah placed the diary under her pillow. It had been a long day and the week was about to start again.
'Roomies goodnight o,' she said, as she put off her wall light and drifted off.
'Bunky wake up. You're beginning to make this a habit,me waking you up in the morning.'
'Sorry. I can't blame myself if sleep is too sweet. I'll stand up.'
Her bunky laughed and left the room for class. The week had begun again and she prayed it will end the same way it began, very fast. Dragging her body from bed, Selah arranged her bed, picked random clothes she washed the previous week, swept her corner and went to shower. Her class was by 09:00am and she had thirty minutes left to prepare which she knew she won't make it.
'Babe,' she called Vanessa on the phone, 'you dey go class?'
'Yes na. I dey wear cloth sef.'
'Abeg you fit help me write my name for attendance?'
'You no serious. Wear clothe make we go class. You wan start this one new, abi dem don swear for you.'
Selah knew it was futile to ask Vanessa to sign her attendance; she had claimed that she will never miss a class or help anyone register. She laughed to herself school never do you strong tin she muttered.
'Okay na. If you won't help me, no problem. I will get your note after the class.'
'Oyo is your case,' Vanessa said and ended the call.
Still, Selah sent her class details to her friend and prayed that she will help mark her attendance, fingers crossed. Now, she had time to clean her space, wash some clothes and maybe sleep.
I'm tired of school already.
Three years, ten months, eight weeks and three days left before I convocate. Ah! Baba. I've not even started and I'm tired Selah said as she looked at the textbooks in front of her.
Two hours later, Valerie walked into the room and climbed Selah's bed.
'Take,' Valerie said as she stretched a long note to her, 'We had Mac 111 today and the note is long. I also signed your attendance for you.'
'Thanks so much, you're the best.' Selah hugged Vanessa tight.
'Yen yen yen. Don't get used to it. Have you eaten?' Vanessa asked, pulling out her purse from her handbag.
'No. Let me dress up, then we can go and eat.'
As they strolled out of the hostel, Ese walked up to them.
'Madam, how far? Hi Valerie.'
'Hi Ese. It's Vanessa,' she corrected. Turning to Selah, 'I dey wait you for cafeteria.'
'Okay. We are coming behind you.'
Facing Ese, she held his right hand, 'how are you?'
'I'm good. Longest time, seeing as you don't have my time anymore. I will call and you won't pick, then you won't call back. Issorait.'
'It's not like that. I haven't been feeling fine lately.'
'For almost three weeks?' he looked at her and shook his head.
'Please let's go and meet Valerie,' she said and laughed as she dragged him along, 'she is waiting for us and I am hungry.'
'I had an amazing dream last night,' Vanessa said to Selah. She dressed up and styled her hair as she talked. Selah rolled her eyes and nudged her to proceed.
'In my dream, I had a child for Klaus Mikaelson_ Can you imagine? As in, I wanted it to be real, he was so adorable,' she responded and smiled widely.
'Seriously? Watching too much of The Originals is doing something to you. I watch it more than you do but my fever isn't this high. We'll be late for class, biko let's go.' Selah rose from the bed, picked her bag and walked out, Vanessa trailing behind her.
When they got to the class door, the lecturer was inside and had closed the door on them. Selah checked her time and glared at her friend who sheepishly smiled. As they waited patiently for the lecturers pardon to enter the class, another girl joined them.
'This should be the last time you come late to my class,' Mr Evans said and opened the door. They thanked him and walked in quietly to the back seat.
'Hi, my name is Selah and this is my friend Vanessa. What's yours?' she asked the tall, beautiful girl who was minding her business.
'Rikki,' she responded and smiled, then faced the lecturer again.
'Maybe we'll talk after the class.' She added and concentrated on the lesson.
'Babe, are you hungry?' Selah asked Vanessa after the class. She, Rikki and Vanessa had stepped out together and were already conversing comfortably. Vanessa nodded and so did Rikki. The three of them walked towards the cafeteria and bumped into Ese.
'Hey,' he hugged Selah and waved at the others as they walked on into the cafeteria.
'Come and buy lunch. It's not just to hey and gist. I need to fill myself up, so I can listen to you ramble. Come let's go,' she dragged him into the cafeteria.
Walel Rotimi, a dark, smart and handsome guy sat the end of the hall, earpiece on and picking his food. His class had begun but he was less interested in what the lecture had to offer. He sat pressing his phone, oblivious of anyone who entered and left the cafeteria. His phone rang.
'Guy,' the caller whispered, 'class don start o. Wey you dey?'
'I dey cafeteria. I no go fit come that class. Abeg sign my name for attendance. Thanks boss man.'
'Okay.' The call ended.
