She had ignored his calls and avoided him that entire day. He sent a message

Hey, please I need to see you. Stop avoiding me...we need to talk please. Thanks.

She picked up her phone, read the message and sighed, I'm so sorry Segun...It feels awkward seeing you. She dialled Valerie's number.

'Babe what's up? Good morning.'

'How far na? Why your voice dey sound like person wey commit offence, eh? You dey jail?'

'You no wise o. I am fine. I'm coming to Warri tomorrow, if it's okay by you.'

'No p na. Tomorrow na Sunday, so I dey come school on Tuesday. If you wan come, no p. I dey wait you.'

'Okay.'

'You sure say you dey okay?'

'Yes. We go talk when I come, abeg.'

'Okay o.'

She took her phone and started watching movies "Lord Of The Rings - Return of the King" for the umpteenth time. She didn't know when night fell.

'Roomy, are you going to get food?' she asked Trust who was dressing up.

'Yes, but I need to see someone first sha. Can you wait?'

'Okay.' she added and searched her purse for money.

'What do you want?'

'Fried rice and two meat, thanks.'

The next day, she packed few stuff she needed for two days and informed her roommate where she was going.

She got to the park and got a call from Segun, she ignored it and put the phone back. She headed to the park where Warri buses were loading. Warri here, warri here...one shance...enter with your shange o.

'How much?' she asked

'N300. Sister with your shange o.'

She paid and entered, picking a suitable seat at the back, where she won't be inconvenienced to shift for anyone to pass or step down for someone to go out.

Another message from Segun.

Babe, pick my call na. I'm not happy about this thing you're doing, ignoring my calls. We need to talk so please pick my call. Thanks.

By the time she got to Warri, she was so exhausted from the sleep, the squeeze and body odour of the biggie biggie girl sitting beside her, finally she said.

She called Valerie.

'Babe, I dey Warri park.'

'Okay. I dey come.'

Ese called her; when she saw it, she rolled her eyes. Who do this one make e call me? She picked.

'Sir,' she spat sarcastically.

'How far na?'

'Fine Sir. How about you?' she added, pretending to feel concern.

'Good. Where are you?'

'Monitoring spirit, them send you abi? Why are you asking?'

'Seriously? Someone cannot call to know how you're doing?'

She sighed. 'It's not that. You call when the ancestors say call her.'

Ese laughed and relaxed. He had missed her so much but lately, their issues and Segun was drifting them apart. He had missed her jokes, her stubbornness, crazy and blunt conversations and the talk of series they do competition to watch or download.

'I miss you. You are my first female friend in this school and I cherish our friendship, fash the issues we are having and you know Segun issue,' he said covering his mouth when mentioning Segun.

Selah sighed and didn't say a word. He was her first male friend too and she missed their hangouts, mocking people with different fashion sense and looking for people's trouble.

'I am in Warri, to see Val. I will be back on Tuesday, maybe we can hangout.'

'Okay.'

She paused and then smiled.

'Ese, I miss you too.'

He smiled and ended the call.

Val called her.

'You still dey de park?'

'Ehh...be fast biko, the way the sun is shining here, I will be barbeque very soon.'

She laughed. 'Your mouth eh, chai, Holy Ghost fire.'

'Do come quick, abeg.'

BACK IN SCHOOL

Segun and Ese's paths crossed that evening in school.

'How far,' Segun asked him.

'I dey.'

Awkward, this happens between the opposite gender. Talk like normal guys jhare, which one is this one?

'How far Selah? Have you heard from her?' he asked.

'She's in Warri.'

Ese walked away.
