Chapter 29

Friday rolled around and Sebastian left work early to get ready for his date with Rafael. He came home to find Harper watching Netflicks in the lounge room with a slender woman with long blonde dreadlocks. The two of them were snuggled up comfortably on the couch together. Harper looked up as he entered.

"Sebby!" She cried out happily. "You're home early today!"

Sebastian smiled as he hung his black eli cow hide briefcase on the hook near the door, the dim light catching the discreet Louis Vuitton logo embossed on the corner.

"Gotta make myself all purdy for my date hun-neeee!"

Harper giggled. "Sebby, this is Cameron."

Cameron raised her hand up. "Hey, how's it goin mate?"

Sebastian nodded cordially in her direction. "Good thanks. And yourself?"

"Couldn't be happier." Cameron pulled Harper closer to her with a huge smile on her face.

"Looks like you ladies have everything sorted." Sebastian smiled as he observed Cameron give Harper a smooch on the forehead as she snuggled up under her arm. "I'll be upstairs making all of this perfection."

"He sure is one of a kind isn't he?" Cameron remarked as her fingers playing with Harper's silky dark toffee locks. Harper looked up at her and smiled, feeling content and happy.

"He's been there for me through a lot of tough times," Harper replied. "I don't know what I would have done without him."

Cameron gently kissed her lips. "Anyone that looks after you is alright in my books babe."

Harper smiled happily and snuggled back under Cameron's arm.

Harper heard Sebastian make his way back downstairs and sat up to watch him do a twirl. His black hair was artfully tousled in a style that was meant to look casual and carefree but Harper knew that he would have spent ages styling it. He was wearing a black Versace logo biker inspired jacket with white contrasting lateral bands and Versace logo lettering. He had paired the jacket with his favourite well worn blue Calvin Klein jeans and a fitted white t-shirt with a large pale gold CK logo across the chest. And it wouldn't be a signature Sebastian outfit with his obligatory worn converse sneakers, in red this time.

"What do you think my darlings?"

"Sexy, sexy, SEX-ay!" Cameron called out, slapping her thigh. "Someones getting lucky tonight!"

"Ow ow ow owwwww!" Harper wolf whistled. "Looking smoking HAWT Sebby!"

Sebastian preened with all the praise, straightening the front of his jacket, his face lighting up with a huge satisfied grin.

"Thank you my darlings!" He said theatrically. "But the fashion show is over for tonight."

Harper and Cameron groaned in mock disappointment.

"As much as I hate to disappoint my fans," He continued theatrically. "The show must end. Thank you and good night."

Both ladies clapped and whistled enthusiastically as Sebastian took several deep bows in front of them.

Harper started chuckling. "Go Sebby," She said in midst her laughter. "You're going be late for your hot date."

Sebastian blew kisses to both of them as he made his way to the door. "You've been wonderful." He blew more kisses. "I love you all."

He grabbed the keys to his Mustang off the hook on the wall.

"Be good ladies. And don't do anything I wouldn't do." He winked cheekily as he swept out the door. "Sebastian has now left the building."

Harper turned to Cameron, her eyes dancing with happiness. "What did you want to do for dinner?"

Cameron smiled cheekily. "I could think of one thing that I want to eat."

Harper slapped her arm good naturally. "I'm talking about food babe." She giggled. Cameron grabbed her and pulled her in close for a kiss. Harper smiled as their lips met, enjoying the carefree intimacy. It was so different this time. There was no angry husband bearing down on her, questioning her. There was no sneaking about. Harper broke the kiss gently with a smile and grabbed her phone, bringing up the Menulog app. Cameron twisted her slender arms around Harper's waist and pulled her closer.

"What do you feel like?"

"Pepperoni pizza." Cameron replied smooching Harper.

"Ok done." Harper kissed Cameron back. "I'll order it."

Cameron nodded and kept smooching Harper on the neck, cheeks and lips, trying to distract her from ordering the pizza. Harper giggled as she struggled to see her phone.

"Two seconds," Harper laughed. "Let me order the pizza."

She finally hit the order button and threw the phone on the couch.

"Now you're all mine!" Cameron pounced on Harper, pushing her back on the couch, covering Harper's body with hers. Harper looked up at Cameron, her cheeks warm and flushed from the mock struggle, her lips parted in anticipation. Their eyes locked together. Cameron stroked her face gently.

"I'm so glad that Raf rescued you and you came into my life." She said softly. Harper smiled and kissed her softly on the lips, relishing how Cameron's lips blossomed beneath hers. Their tongues met in a sensual dance, fanning the passionate desire between them.

The doorbell rang interrupting their sweet intimate moment.

"I'll get it babe." Cameron said, getting up off the couch. "It's probably the pizza."

She opened the door and found Brooklyn standing on the doorstep.

"Hey." Cameron said, leaning against the door frame, her eyes looking Brooklyn up and down.

"Hi," Brooklyn replied cooly. "Is Harper home?"

"Brooklyn..."

"The one and only." Brooklyn said flippantly.

"Harper!" Cameron called. "Can you come here for a moment?"

Harper came to the door, her eyes narrowing when she saw it was Brooklyn. Cameron walked away quietly and busied herself in the kitchen.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" Harper asked in surprise. "Are you stalking me now?"

"No." Brooklyn shook her head. "I'm wondering when you're coming back to work."

"You should have called me." Harper snapped.

"You wouldn't have answered." Brooklyn retorted.

"Uh huh," Harper ran her hand through her hair in frustration. "Then you wouldn't have been able to check her out."

"I don't care who you're with now." Brooklyn shrugged. "We're short staffed and could use an extra set of hands at the shelter."

Harper leaned against the door frame and folded her arms. "I'm not going back to work at the shelter. I need a fresh start."

Brooklyn shrugged and nodded, her face cold and blank. "No worries."

"Don't come here again." Harper snapped, closing the door in her face.

Sebastian made his way to the bar that he was meeting Rafael. He found a park on the busy street and checked his watch, an old timepiece that seemed out of place with his trendy clothes. The watch was his great grandfathers. His grandfather had given it to Sebastian on his last trip to Australia. It was an old italian military watch made in a traditional style in gold with a white face and a red tachymetric scale on the outside. The tan mock crocodile band was old and worn from time. The watch reminded Sebastian of where his family had come from and how hard they fought. It reminded him to keep fighting in life.

He was running slightly late, his fingers tapped the antique watch face as he hurried to meet Rafael. His brow furrowed imperceptibly as he cut through the throngs of people on the street. He strode through the door and spotted Rafael sitting at the bar with a beer in front of him. He admired his casual tight white t-shirt and black jeans. His muscles caught the dim light as he raised his arm to take a swig of his beer. Sebastian stopped for a moment and watched as a young man sauntered over to him. He leaned on the bar and tried to strike up a conversation with him. Sebastian watched as Rafael gently rebuffed the young man's advances and sent him on his way. He smiled, feeling his confidence in Rafael soar higher. He took a deep breath before starting his walk over to him. He leaned slightly on the bar next to Rafael.

"Buenas noches," He said smoothly. "¿Cómo estás?"

Rafael looked over at him. His face split into a huge grin. "Bueno hermano."

Rafael cocked his eyebrow quizzically as Sebastian leant forward and kissed him on each cheek, lingering to breath in his scent, a mixture of a juicy fresh bergamot, with a lingering woodiness of ambergris mixing in with a faint trace of engine oil. Their eyes met as Sebastian drew back slowly, his lips tingling with the contact from the lingering cheek kisses.

"As long as you don't give me the kiss of death." Rafael joked as he chuckled softly.

"I could never dream of such a thing." Sebastian laughed softly. "Unless of course, you mess with the family..."

Rafael laughed harder and signalled the bartender for another two beers.

Harper turned to Cameron after Brooklyn left. She didn't know how she felt about Brooklyn just showing up on her doorstep. Part of her felt conflicted when she saw Brooklyn again, such a rush of feelings came flooding back. All the good times they had, all the support that Brooklyn had given her while she had been with Jackson. Then the other side of Brooklyn, the side that stopped caring, that stopped supporting her, that shied away once she had finally gotten out.

"I'm so sorry about that." Harper ran her hands through her hair. "I don't know why she would turn up here."

Cameron looked at Harper. Her grey eyes were sad.

"I thought it was over." She pushed her glass on the counter, fidgeting like she wasn't going to like the answer.

"It is over," Harper said. "It's so over."

"Doesn't seem like it for her."

Harper sat down at the kitchen island and sighed.

"Is this what it's going to be like?" Cameron gestured to the door. "Her just rocking up whenever she feels like?"

Harper shook her head.

"I like you Harper," Cameron said. "I really do, but I can't have something with you if your ex is still in the picture."

"She's not." Harper insisted. "It really is done."

"So you don't have any feelings for her?"

Harper exhaled. This was hard for her to talk about. She did still have some feelings for Brooklyn even though it had ended so abruptly and badly. There had been very little decline in the relationship, and then it had just ended. She didn't have a choice in the matter. Harper wasn't ready to deal with what residual feelings that were left for Brooklyn. If anything she wished that those feelings would just go away, so she could move forward with her life.

"No," Harper lied. "No feelings left at all."

Cameron nodded and walked over to Harper. She put her arms around her.

"Good." She pulled Harper closer. "It just going to be you and me."

Brooklyn walked away from Sebastian's townhouse, feeling ridiculous. She got into her Jeep and started driving. Part of her thought, that maybe, just maybe, there was still a chance with Harper. That maybe after their conversation, when she had come over drunk, Harper might have mellowed and been willing to give her another chance. Being faced by Harper's new girlfriend was a confrontation that she wasn't expecting. Especially when she saw her. Tall and thin, with long dreadlocks that just looked dirty. Ew, She thought. How could she be with someone like that? I thought Harper had higher standards than that?

Her phone buzzed on the seat next to her. She glanced briefly at the screen.

Mia: Please honey... I don't know what's going on with us? I thought everything was going well?

Brooklyn sighed. She didn't know what to do about her situation with her. It felt like the fire had gone from the once incredibly passionate relationship. Brooklyn couldn't work out why it had suddenly dulled. Maybe the thrill was gone, juggling two women at the same time was what fuelled her. Or maybe it was the fact that Mia had become clingy and emotional, instead of being that relaxed earth mother that she had fallen in love with.

Her phone buzzed again, Brooklyn sighed and looked down to read the message.

Mia: I miss you so much. When can we see each other again?

Shit. She thought as her world went black with a earth shattering crash.
