Chapter 27
Brooklyn sat on her balcony, staring out into the busy street without really seeing what was happening. She moodily spun her glass of Tanqueray in front of her. She was still reeling from her break up with Harper and the night that she turned up on Harper's front doorstep. Her alcohol fuelled bender was over. She had shut too many people out during that time, even though it had felt like what she needed at the time. She could barely remember what she had done during that time.
There were a few vague memories of a few different women that she had trouble remembering clearly, but the messages that she received on her phone reminded her of what she had done. Brooklyn shook her head in disgust as she revisited the memories and lit a cigarette, the smoke curling its way into the cool night air.
She'd run into one of the women a few days ago at her local. It hadn't gone well. The other woman became clingy after their night together and Brooklyn had to set her straight.
"Brooklyn?"
"Yeh?" Brooklyn looked up to see a woman that she'd slept with during her bender standing next to her. "Hey!"
"Hey, how come you didn't call me after the other night? I left like five messages for you." The woman's voice shook and her eyes welled up with barely restrained tears. Brooklyn knew that it had been more than five messages and countless texts from her.
"Oh, well you know, I haven't had my phone," Brooklyn replied flippantly, taking a sip of her gin. "So when I get my phone back, I'll check my messages and I'll call you."
"All right." The woman was somewhat mollified, barely holding back her tears.
"It was good to see you though!" Brooklyn said finishing her gin. "Take care." She stood up, patted the woman on the arm and quickly left the bar. Each step she took made her think that she would have to find a new place to have a few quiet drinks after work.
Brooklyn lit another cigarette and blew the smoke out slowly. She couldn't even remember what happened with Mia. She had a vague recollection of Mia coming over, lots of tears and yelling. Had she destroyed another relationship there as well?
Harper arrived at the garage in the evening looking for Lenny. The garage appeared empty.
"Hello?" She called out, hesitantly stepping around the cars. Cameron rolled out from underneath a silver Nissan Skyline GT-R with a couple of spanners resting on her stomach. The blue decals on the sides and bonnet gleamed in the dim lights of the garage. Her deep set grey eyes looked Harper up and down, taking in her relaxed fit Guess indigo acid washed jeans with a reflective floral print along the bottom and casual loose grey t-shirt.
"Harper!" She exclaimed happily. She put the spanners off to the side and got up off the creeper. "How are you gorgeous?" She gave Harper a big hug.
"Good thanks Cameron." Harper replied, her cheeks flushed from the enthusiastic greeting. "Is Lenny around?"
"She's out at the moment picking up a car from a customer," Cameron explained, wiping her hands on a rag. "She should be back soon."
Harper nodded, shuffling her feet a little, unsure of whether to leave or to stay and wait for Lenny. Part of her wanted to stay with Cameron, but she didn't trust herself alone with the charming mechanic. Her heart was just beginning to heal and she still feeling fragile. Cameron seemed to make up Harper's mind for her.
"Wanna to see my baby?" Cameron looked questioningly at Harper who stared back at her with confusion. When Harper didn't react, she grabbed her hand and led her through the workshop. "Come on. You'll love it! It's awesome."
Cameron led her through the workshop to a low slung red Mazda RX-7 with a fat body kit. The huge 20 inch black alloy wheels gleamed in the dim light of the garage. The hood was up and there was a white cloth draped across the front guard.
"Isn't it hot?" Cameron sighed. "Look at that twin turbo rotary engine and VeilSide Aero bodykit. I imported the body kit from the US."
Harper nodded, not quite sure what she was appreciating, but playing along trying to understand Cameron's passion.
"Guessing it's a fast car?" Harper replied confused.
"That's a 10 second car right there." Carmen said with a deep satisfaction, patting the front guard affectionately. "Well, it will be once I'm finished with it."
"10 second car?" Harper queried.
"Down for a quarter mile." Cameron explained. "That's damned fast."
She moved closer to Harper slowly and smiled softly.
"So damned fast..." She leant a little closer to Harper. Her lips inches away from hers.
"So what happens after the race?" Harper breathed.
"I claim my prize." Cameron smiled softly. "I'd love you to be my prize after I win the race."
Harper smiled and tilted her head slightly to the side.
"Oh really?"
Cameron took Harper by the waist and pulled her closer.
"Couldn't think of a better prize." She whispered softly, her lips inches away from Harper's. Harper's breath caught in her throat as she took in Cameron's full parted lips and grey bedroom eyes hungrily devouring her.
She leaned in and kissed Harper on the lips gently. Cameron pulled back slightly and smiled softly at her. Harper smiled back and leaned in again for another kiss. They kissed softly like teenagers before the kiss started to intensify and Cameron pulled Harper in closer.
"My gorgeous prize." She whispered throatily, in between hungry kisses. Harper moaned and kissed her back fervently.
Cameron lifted Harper up off the ground and brought her closer even to her. Harper wrapped her legs around Cameron's waist and was carried over to the couch. Cameron sat on the couch with Harper straddling her lap. Cameron kissed her again deeply, playing with Harper's tongue gently. Harper moaned softly as she kissed her back. She cupped Cameron's face with her hands as her back arched, feeling Cameron's hands run down her sides to cup her backside, giving it a gentle squeeze, pulling her closer. Her hands ran back up and pushed up Harper's soft t-shirt over her head, revealing her skimpy pale pink mesh and black lace playboy bunny bra. As Harper stretched up to take her t-shirt off the rest of the way, Cameron kissed and licked her stomach sensually. Her hands ran over Harper's breasts, feeling her nipples harden through the thin material. Harper moaned and squirmed on Cameron's lap, getting caught up in the moment, forgetting that she was fragile. Harper forgot about Brooklyn and began to lose herself in the moment. She reached for Cameron's braless breasts through the skimpy singlet, feeling her nipples harden beneath her fingers tips. She felt Cameron moan into her neck as she touched her.
"Feels so good when you touch me." Cameron moaned. Harper smiled and brought her lips to Cameron's, feeling her sensually kiss her back. As the passion mounted, Harper was thrown back on the couch, with Cameron kneeling between her thighs, kissing her mouth, her neck, down to her breasts, her hands flicking open Harper's jeans smoothly. She grabbed Cameron's hand abruptly.
"Wait..." Harper said breathlessly.
Cameron looked at her, her grey eyes dark with desire and her chest heaving.
"Is everything ok?"
Harper sat up slightly, resting on her elbow. "Yes, no, I don't know." She ran her hands through her hair. "Feels like we might be moving a little fast."
Cameron sat back on her haunches and tilted her head. "Are you sure that you're ok?"
Harper sighed. "Maybe not. I think I just got caught up in the moment. It's been a while since someone has swept me off my feet like this."
"Just broke up with a girl?"
Harper sighed. "Yeh, a few weeks ago now."
Cameron nodded understandingly. "It's ok babe." She lay next to Harper and trailed her fingers over her stomach gently. Harper shivered at her touch. She giggled and squirmed beneath Cameron's touch.
"Tickles."
Cameron chuckled and the tension was broken with the laughter. The two snuggled up together on the couch, enjoying the warmth of each other's skin.
Jackson sat in the dimly lit atrium of the cigar bar with the other partners from his office, mulling over what Isabella had told him earlier. He twirled his glass of scotch as he puffed on his Churchill Maduro cigar, enjoying the smooth taste of espresso beans and cocoa notes.
"Jacky boy!!" Ethan slapped him on the shoulder. "What's going on mate? You've been so quiet tonight."
Jackson smiled thinly. "Not much mate." He responded in kind, slapping Ethan on the shoulder. "Just thinking about that big contract we signed today."
Ethan smiled and leaned back in his chair, the cigar smouldering in his fingers. "Yeh we sure did good there huh?"
He looked around jubilantly at the other men from the office and all the men high fived each other in congratulations. They all lifted their glasses and toasted to their latest success. A leggy redhead waitress came around with a tray of fresh drinks. Ethan leaned forward as she was leaving.
"Damn Jacky Boy!" He stage whispered to Jackson. "Look at how those legs go all the way up and make an ass of themselves!"
He slapped Jackson on the shoulder again to get his attention. Jackson looked at the waitress and nodded his approval half heartedly.
"Shame Harper isn't as open minded as Emma." Jackson remarked cynically. Ethan nodded as he leant back and took a swig of scotch.
"Maybe when she moves back in, you can have a chat to her." He puffed on his cigar and shrugged expansively. "You never know what would happen unless you talk to her."
Jackson nodded and took a sip of his scotch. "Perhaps."
"You know what Jacky Boy?" Ethan said boastfully, fuelled by the top shelf liquor. "I think I'm gonna have a chat with legs over there and see if I can convince her to come home with me."
Jackson gave him a faint smile and a vague nod. He took another sip of his drink, while he watched his friend stride over confidently over to the redhead and started charming her. As he kept watching, Jackson could feel the jealousy rising in his chest. It seemed that Ethan had best of both worlds. A gorgeous, loving wife that didn't mind sharing with him in the bedroom.
His eyes narrowed as he watched Ethan sweet talk the pretty girl. He flipped his dirty blond surfer hair out of his eyes and whispered in the girl's ear, making her giggle and blush. He watched as Ethan pulled out his phone, showing her, what he presumed was a photo of Emma. The waitress smiled and flipped her long red hair off her shoulders as she looked at Ethan's phone, edging herself closer to him. Ethan handed his phone to the waitress. It looked like she was punching in some numbers. She handed the phone back and took her own out of her pocket and showed Ethan the screen as it rang.
Jackson leaned back and puffed on his cigar contemplatively. If Ethan could pick up a hottie here, then what was stopping him from doing the same? He looked around to see if there were any other women in the bar. He was feeling competitive after watching Ethan expertly and successfully pick up the gorgeous waitress. Jackson spied an elegant blonde drinking a martini at the bar. He downed the last of his scotch and butted out his cigar, sliding it back into the metal tube, stowing it away in his jacket pocket to finish smoking later.
Jackson checked his appearance in the reflection of the glass and straightened his tie, buttoning his Armani jacket. He felt a little nervous as he hadn't been part of the dating game for so long now. He blew out a deep breath and walked over to the blonde. He leant on the bar next to her casually.
"Someone said that you were looking for me?" He signalled the bartender for another drink for both of them nonchalantly. The blonde took a sip of her martini, looking him up and down cooly. She smiled and took another sip.
"Seems like someone was right." She replied enigmatically in a husky voice, her smile playing around her red glossy lips. Jackson smiled and sat down next to her.
"Jackson." He offered her his hand.
"Elizabeth." She extended her manicured hand and he brought her knuckles to his lips briefly in a show of old world chivalry.
"It's an absolute pleasure to meet you Elizabeth." Her cheeks flushed slightly at the brief physical contact.
"What brings you here tonight?" He asked smoothly, pushing her martini over to her. Elizabeth smiled and picked up the new drink.
"I was with work friends but they've all gone for the evening." She replied, sipping the martini slowly. "I was just having a quiet drink before I headed off myself."
"Lucky I caught you then." Jackson raised his eyebrow.
"I don't consider myself caught just yet."
Jackson smiled, enjoying the banter. "So tell me, what kind of bait do I need?"
Elizabeth laughed and placed her hand on his knee.
