Chapter One, Gwen's Sudden Inheritance

Chapter One, Gwen's Sudden Inheritance

23:58

Gwen looked at the clock on her bedside table in the Lady's suite in Potter Manor counting down until she turned sixteen. Thanks to being forced into the Triwizard Tournament, Gwen and Sirius found out the previous summer, after a trip to Gringotts, that she was emancipated. During this trip they also found out that Dumbledore had been stealing from her and asked the Goblins to get everything back with interest. Thankfully she didn't have to return to the torture house or otherwise known as the Dursleys. But to throw off Dumbledore and his lackeys she had met them at Kings Cross Station, following them outside where she told them she'll never go anywhere with them ever again and neither is she the scared little girl that they can beat up and push around whenever they feel like it.

Smirking at Vernon's puce coloured face, Gwen headed into the nearest alley and called for Dobby who took her home to Potter Manor. Gwen and Sirius had been quite busy the summer before, as Molly Weasley kept trying to separate them they created a clone of themselves so Sirius could teach Gwen what it is to be a Lady and an Heiress to two of the Most Noble and Ancient Houses. He also taught her a vast amount of spells from both the Black and Potter Grimoires to protect herself, showed her Potter Manor and how to reset the Ward stone (the house-elves had been very happy to see her again), bonded Dobby to her as her personal house-elf but he also answered to the head house-elf Tally, and finally, they had planned her Debutante Ball which will be held later on in the year during Yule at Potter Manor.

Gwen was suddenly pulled out of her thoughts by the beeping of her clock as midnight had finally dawned and a searing pain surging from her very core in tidal waves. With each tidal wave, the pain increased until it spilled over Gwen's very high threshold from the years of abuse she'd endured; she was in so much pain that she hadn't even realised that she'd fallen from her four poster bed, she couldn't see, she couldn't hear and nor could she make any sound. All she could do was lay on the carpeted ground hoping the pain would soon subside or it would consume her entirely and take her into the abyss.

Fortunately for Gwen, and for Draco who was feeling a semblance of her pain, the tidal waves of pure agony stopped with an explosion of her magic (that would have destroyed everything if the house-elves hadn't prepared for this eventuality) as something unlocked inside her, causing her to pass out; as the blocks on her magic placed there, unbeknownst to Gwen, by Albus Dumbledore on the night of Sirius's death while Gwen was unconscious from Voldemort possessing her. With the surge of Gwen's excess magic the wards around the Potter estate, the house-elves, creatures and plants seemed to get an extra surge of life as they absorbed the excess magic making them stronger and more in sync with not only the natural magic of the Scottish Highlands, the Potter and Peverell family Magicks but with Gwen as well.

Upon the sun rising high over the Scottish snowy mountains Gwen stirred upon the floor groaning in discomfort. As Gwen blinked her bleary eyes she heard two pops within the room and distant cries of her name that sounded vaguely familiar, like they were from Dobby and Tally.
"Mistress! Mistress! Mistress Gwen! Mistress Guinevere!" Dobby and Tally squealed worriedly.
"I'm okay." Gwen muttered groggily, easing her sore body up off the floor into a sitting position, facing two of her worried house-elves offering them a reassuring smile. "Tally, could you please get me some parchment and ink. I need to send an urgent letter to my account manager at Gringotts.

There was a block on my magic and I want to find out why it wasn't discovered the first time. Dobby, could you please run me a bath." Gwen requested, as she eased herself into a standing position stretching with a sigh of relief as all her joints popped after an uncomfortable sleep on the floor. Tally and Dobby gasped in horror at that news and rushed to do her bidding. They had doubts due to the amount of power surge the night before but to hear it confirmed that such an abhorrent practice had been put into place on their Mistress, made them and the other house-elves (when they found out) angry beyond belief. Leaving her bedroom Gwen took a slow walk to her office as she got feeling back into her legs, she could feel her magic more freely once again as it surged like fire within her veins that would scorch anyone who harmed her but never her.

Seeing that the items requested were all set out ready for her, Gwen hurried to her desk and immediately started penning a letter to King Blood-claw, the King of the Goblin Nation as she wasn't sure if she could trust her account manager Griphook.

King Blood-claw,

I hope this letter finds you well and all your enemies tremble at your feet. I'm afraid this doesn't bring good news, I came into my inheritance last night - as a submissive - but there was a block on my magic; although it finally broke with the surge of power it shouldn't have been placed there to begin with. Why was this not discovered the last time I entered the bank? To say I am angry and disappointed is an understatement!

I want this looked into! I and my family have trusted the Goblin nation with our accounts for generations and I have been let down in the harshest way possible.

I hope this is resolved as soon as possible and those responsible for this abhorrent and heinous crime against the House of Potter, Peverell and Black are held accountable and punished accordingly. I also hope nothing like this happens again!

May your gold ever flow.

Lady Guinevere Lily Potter-Peverell-Black
Lady of The Most Ancient and Most Noble House of Potter.
Lady of The Most Ancient and Most Noble House of Black.
Lady of The Most Ancient and Most Regal House of Peverell.

Satisfied with her letter she set it aside after sprinkling Elberta's Quick-Drying Ink Setter over the parchment and a started penning a letter to Draco as she knew he was her Alpha as he had told her at the beginning of the summer, plus they had started to secretly date after the Yule Ball in their fourth year.

My dearest dragon,

I have just come into my inheritance as you know, but it didn't go to plan. When does anything ever go to plan with me lately!?

I hope you're okay and they're not making you do anything you don't want to. But I thought you should know, as you no doubt felt the pain (sorry about that), but there was a block on my magic, which while it eventually and thankfully broke shouldn't have been there in the first place. I've written to King Blood-claw as I'm not sure if I can trust my account manager.

I'm not too sure who I can trust anymore.

With love,

Your Gwen xxx

Sprinkling the same light grey dust over this letter, she set it aside and pulled the first letter back over to her. Blowing off the excess dust, Gwen rolled up the parchment, penning the addressee on the front and opened a drawer pulling over a stick of red wax which she held over the candle and allowed ten drops of wax to fall onto the ends of the parchment to seal it shut. With quick hands, Gwen had pressed her signet ring into the wax, stamping the mix coat of arms of her three houses into the wax before copying her actions with Draco's letter. Grasping her wand from its holster something unexpected happened.

As Gwen cast a Non-verbal to open the window and allow Hedwig entrance after she had rapped her beak against the window. She had been hunting and retrieved gifts from Remus, but as the spell left her lips, her wand vibrated dangerously before it exploded in her palm the Phoenix feather scorching to the touch and would've burned her if not for the quick actions of Dobby and Tally who had just entered the office. The female house-elf shifted the letters clasped in her small hands, which no doubt had been checked over for any potions or spells, clicked her fingers to allow Hedwig in while Dobby quickly fetched some Burn Salve and a bandage to treat his Mistress's hand.
"Thank you." Gwen muttered gratefully, smiling slightly at them, petting Hedwig with her other hand.

"It's not a problem, Mistress." Tally assured her young Mistress, who she remembered as a small babe before they left the safety of the Manor.
"Tally and Osmond have checked over all the letters and they are clean, Dobby has prepared you a bath with healing potions within the water, and Frederick has prepared you your favourite breakfast in the small dining hall with your Potions set on the table beside it waiting for you." Tally informed her.
"Thank you Tally. Could you please take this letter to King Blood-claw and only him. Do not let anyone else have this letter. Don't look like that Hedwig! I have this letter for you to take to Draco while Tally does this one." Gwen admonished gently when her familiar gave a baleful hoot. "Plus, I get to have a cuddle with you first before you go." She added, which seemed to win over her temperamental familiar.

"Looks like I need to get a new wand now." Gwen sighed, looking down at her bandaged hand as Dobby stepped back finished with his work.
She knew she would get a power surge and her magic would be more turbulent due to the block but she's never known a wand to explode before. But she had to admit to herself that after second year when she'd been bitten by the Basilisk when she'd nearly died, some black gooey-sludge-like substance came out of her scar, she had felt freer than she'd had in years which was weird but also her wand hadn't seemed to match to her quite as well afterwards; so that could perhaps explain it.
"Worry about that later Mistress." Dobby admonished.

"You need to heal from your terrible night by having a relaxing bath, take your potions to heal from the abuse my poor, poor Mistress has suffered at the hands of those horrible people. Oh, the things Dobby would do if I's ever got my hands on them." Dobby ranted angrily, physically shaking with his anger as his tennis ball- green eyes became darker until they were a Forest green colour.
"Then you will eat while I deliver this letter for you Mistress and the others can get on with their chores and sort through any other letters you may receive, while you look over your portfolios and confirm items for Yule and your Debutante Ball in the Yule holidays." Tally ordered, showcasing her status as Head House-elf to the Potters.

"You're right of course, my dear Tally. Could you please tell Osmond, before you leave, that I'll open any letters and/or parcels at breakfast including Remus's letters." Gwen smiled softly at the elf, who was dressed in a crisp white shirt and a navy blue skirt with the three crests stamped proudly on her breast while her ice-blue eyes shone with admiration.
"Of course Mistress." Tally agreed, curtsied, before she disappeared with a pop with both letters in her grasp.
"Looks like someone has just become an enemy of House Potter-Black-Peverell." Gwen muttered darkly to herself, as she made her way to her bathroom as everyone left to complete their tasks, setting a new course for the coming war ahead.
