Prologue

One Month Prior...

The once bright sunny summer day came to an end as the dull grey clouds took over the skies. I sat there on the swings, waiting for the only person who would do anything for me and I would do the exact same.

We've been through everything, including the bad times. We were inseparable. He's been my best friend since kindergarten. We accomplished so much in our thirteen years of friendship. We made so many milestone in our lives. Like recently, we walked the stage two months ago with all our friends and as fate would have it, we all got accepted to the same college. He was always there for me and I was right there for him. When he made a mistake or screwed up, I would cover for him and vice versa.

Through everything that come our way, every hardship, every secret, every lie, we shared, it only proved how strong our friendship truly was and nothing could break it.

That would explain why I was waiting for him to come when the clouds screams to get home now. I was risking myself to get rained on but it didn't matter. He needed me and from what I can tell it was important.

Minutes past by and I doubt if he would show up but it quickly vanished when I saw him walk toward me. I stood up and met him half way.

His once readable expression, I could detect in a heart beat, was untracable. He didn't look at me but at the green grass.

"What's wrong?" I asked, worried. "It took you longer to get here."

"I was debating if I should come or not." He replied. "And now I have my answer."

He glanced up at me with his blue eyes and I couldn't tell what he was feeling or what he was thinking.

"Jayce" I grabbed his arm and he flinched. I drop my arm and gave him a confused look. "What's wrong?" I repeated.

Before he can respond back, the rain came. I looked up at the sky and then I looked back at him.

"I'm sorry Cole." He said.

"For what?"

"I have to go." He told me, turning around.

I stopped him. "No. Stay." I said. "Tell me what's going on?"

"No." He said. "If I stay, it can ruin our friendship and I don't want that."

I frowned. "Then it won't." I promised. "Tell me please." I begged.

But if I had known what was to come, I wouldn't had stopped him. I would've let him walk away. And our friendship wouldn't be broken by something I never saw coming.

He looked away for a second before bringing me closer to him and he covered my cold wet lips with his.

I froze. He was kissing me and I didn't pull away. Why?

I could blame it on the fact that I was shocked but we both knew the real reason. It was there all along. It was just waiting for the right moment to emerge but this wasn't the right moment.

He pulled away and looked into my eyes. Realization ran through me. My best friend kissed me. I kissed him back.

We both seem to slowly get pulled out our daze as we looked at each other.

"Jayce." I whispered.

He backed away from me. " I shouldn't have done that. Forget about it."

He didn't allow me to say anything before he walked away from me, leaving me in the rain, confused.

I didn't call for him or I didn't run after him. I just stood there in the rain watching his retreating figure.

No matter how hard I tried to tell myself, it didn't matter and our friendship wouldn't be broken by whatever this was, I know deep down that from that moment and on nothing would ever be the same again.
